The photograph is legit, comes from a canadian museum.

As it turns out, historians have noted that the guy is not wearing any single item that is out of period, it's just that the combination and the fact that he's so out of place in the crowd make him look way ahead of his time.

The article says that, but unless I missed it, they didn't cite any references.

And the post itself is word for word the same as the article in question.

If it were one guy writing this, it may not be as big a deal, but an organization claiming to be legitamate...it would behoove them to back up their claims.

Apologies if the response was unnessecary.

EDIT

I thought I'd state the website I'm refering to is the one in the OP, not the one in the post I quoted. 'pologies for the confusion.

It fake because if a time traveler was caught on camera he would go back in time to stop it from happening.

That article I limked, itself links back to an analysis of the imge, which itself links back to the musem that actually owns it.

Maybe the guy is still alive? Someone should go to that town and ask around.

Unless it were vitally important to the future of humanity that we have this conversation right now...o_O
Imma going to go with the "guy with odd fashion sense" theory. Assuming it isn't a shop of course, which is the most likely option...

1.) The photo is real.
2.) While wearing clothing that wasn't the norm for the era, those were available.
3.) If time travel was possible, we would know about it, mainly because the world would have ended already.

It's a cool story, but thats just it, a story.

Did any of you read the link? It's been verified by experts as real and is in no way fake. Still, this is a strange story, makes me wonder who he was.

Here. [http://www.virtualmuseum.ca/pm.php?id=story_line&lg=English&fl=0&ex=234&sl=4793&pos=1] Scroll down to the midway point to "Reopening of the South Fork Bridge" etc.

It's an amusing photo, whatever the origin. Reminds me of the Safety Not Guaranteed [http://wiki.ytmnd.com/Safety_Not_Guaranteed] thing on YTMND. Sometime after it became a big deal, someone claimed they had found a Civil War era photo of the same guy [http://content.ytmnd.com/content/b/d/7/bd7c8c27aebc0512535dca8f7554cea4.jpg].

And the claim that a time traveler would automatically prevent his own birth makes no sense, unless the writer is talking about the butterfly effect (and in that case, his birth is probably the least significant thing he'd be altering).

Nice story.

I personally will believe time travel when it happens to me or if I see it with my own eyes. For now, it should stick to being subject material for (GOOD) comedy and drama movies.
Heh, on that note there'sa film being released soon about three grown men and a teenager more awkward than McLovin who travel back to the Eighties. In a frekin' hot tub, of all things. The name of the movie is 'Time Travel Hot Tub'. And that's no lie, I actually saw the full trailer for it last night when I was seeing Cemetery Junction...
It was on Escape to the Movies about a month ago if I recall, apparently it's quite good.
First of all though I, being a child whose memories of the nineties are vague at best, have many good things to catch up on. (Yes, I do mean what you think I mean)

Please tell me that after reading that I wasn't the only one who wanted to go around dressed weirdly at public events in the hope that it will be a future fashion.

Probably just wearing clothes (and strange glasses) that where available at the time, he doesn't seem to be getting any strange looks from the other people anyway.

At first I thought it strange that you commented about a film that had already come out. Made me think you were from an alternate reality set a month ago.

Then I found out you were in the UK.

Thanks for spoiling my speculative adventure.

...did I just inadvertently make a simile to the subject of the thread?

This is fake. I don't care what museum it came from, you can tell that the dude is lower resolution than the people around him. Whoever did it turned up the grain filter on the dude too much to try to make him match the older picture, not realizing the older pic was actually pretty good quality. Worth1000 has shopped pictures that look much more authentic than this. Fake as bull tits.

Agreed. You can tell by looking at his hair...and if you look closely you can see he only has it on one side of his head.

Besides, he doesn't even stand out of the crowd that much. I'm sure there were many eccentric dresser, even "way back when".

Oh crap, someone spotted me! Now I have to go back and time and kill their parents to prevent this from happening.

OT: I doubt it's real and as everyone has said before, it may be photoshopped. You'd be surprised at how realistic pictures can look when an expert gets ahold of them.

Time-traveler does not equal an omniscient being :) In other words, there's no guarantee he'd know of his (fairly limited) popularity.

Yeah, this is good, hey you should see some of the pictures in my draw from when I went time travelling. There's even one with me and Hitler.
