The not regenerating health thing makes you be more conscious of how you can approach a situation. There is nothing more rewarding than going into a massive firefight with 3 health and no Armour left, only to emerge by the skin of your teeth without taking that last shot to the torso that would have sent you all the way back to the checkpoint.
btw, i dont know how to quote properly but
if you get really far through the firefight but by random chance one of the enemies happens to have a gun (what are the chances) then you are bound to take a hit and will be forced to play from the checkpoint again.

alternatively what woem said was totally right, health regen in rpg's is a killer.

things to add to the first post.
invisible walls
power armoured space marines (btw, who's looking forward to space marine?)
qte's
pointless slow mo sequences
emotion problems in characters
killing small animals in rpg's
killing small animals in any other genre
sewer levels
tiny writing
SAVE POINTS
brown and grey
pointless collectables
collectables to find achievements
dodgy voice acting
americans being the great riteous victors
infinately spawning enemies
dodgey motion sensing

Those cardboard boxes on sandbox games that are all loaded with physics so they move around when you knock into them. It seems every single open world game has a cardboard box problem.

I'd also include:

-Invisible Walls
-Pointless love intrests
-Pointless customisations (e.g. naming a potion/snack you made)
-The ability to change the main charcters name despite the fact they will be called by their default name anyway!
-Puzzels with only one solution.

As for the issue of regenerating health it depends on the game. Mind you regenerating health did help to eliminate the old cliche of:

-First Aid kits being scattered around convieniently for your use in bases/streets/tombs/trenches/fields/spaceships/boats/harbours/warehouses/factories/beaches.

Invisible walls, rescuing the damsel in distess, moral decisions where there is no middle ground and quick time events that feel like they were thrown in at the last minute.
