I believe she said that if it was two people, not three.

I do agree with you though. :3

Dear fellow Escapists I propose some questions to you. Mainly it's one question with subcategories that you can answer or not answer as you please. My question is this: Do you think that all of these "major" debates will every come to a close? By debates I mean Abortion, Same-sex marriage, Marijuana legalization, etc. Do you think that these will ever be brought to an end one way or another by either banning or allowing these things all across the nation?

EDIT: It's not so much about making everyone happy or controversy. I'm just curious as to whether or not It will be "closed" one way or another. (ex. allowing Same-sex marriage in all states)
No, because these issues are intentionally left to stagnate. They serve as useful fodder for election season. You could, for instance, add video games and video game violence/sexuality to that list.

That said, the trending in the data indicates that the issues might be closed generations from now. I.e. my generation which is just now voting age has less of a problem with abortion, weed and gay pride as generation X did, and gen X had less of a problem than the baby boomers did, and the baby boomers have less of a problem then their parents did.

Etc.

Three's right.

And yes, all those arguments will end, eventually, only to be replaced, like the hydra of old.

And then the old arguments will come back, like threads being necro'd of present.

Transmission third world war third round
A decade of the weapon of sound above ground
No shelter if you're looking for shade
I lick shots at the brutal charade
As the polls close like a casket
On truth devoured
Silent play in the shadow of power
A spectacle monopolized
The cameras eyes on choice disguised
Was it cast for the mass who burn and toil?
Or for the vultures who thirst for blood and oil?
Yes a spectacle monopolized
They hold the reins, stole your eyes
All the fistagons, the bullets and bombs
Who stuff the banks
Who staff the party ranks
More for Gore or the son of a drug lord
None of the above fuck it cut the cord

[OT] No, learned moralities will always handicap rational action, intelligent action, and the morally "right" actions.
Hmmm, by the tone, it sounds violent. And everyone knows that violent revolutions never accomplish worthy goals. A bloodless, social revolution sounds nice though.

i sure could go for one of those and also maybe a hamburger

No they will not. Even after being legalized or banned, there will still be people arguing about their existence and the debate will continue.

Well... Segregation and Jim Crow laws were made illegal, and women were given the the same rights as men so... Yes, it is possible. If it is probably, on the other hand, is another story entirely...

When your politicians cannot have discourse without aggressive rhetoric, and as long as there are still bigots, reactionaries, radicals, and the like, there will never be an end to the debate.

And lets just face it, the sad part is that our nation is getting so polarized that I can't stand either political party anymore. The more stress there is the deeper they seem to plumb into the tubs of batshit crazy both own. I don't believe that we have any right to deny other people rights based on their gender, sexual orientation, or choice of entertainment, but apparently (according to both groups) either:

a) "We can't just allow people to say/do inflamatory things, so the government must protect my feelings and stop them being offensive/maybe hurting me, because I am a COLOSSAL WIMP."
or
b) "Ever since (insert group here) messed up our country, all this immorality has been occuring. Therefor we hafta harass those groups out of existence because we can't empathize with them because we are COLOSSAL BASTARDS."

So, honestly, if this country wasn't such a nice place to live, fuck the place. Our government is paralyzed by all it's own rules, and the absolutely ridiculous system the Senate has been using to forestall debate and decision is stupid beyond belief. I hope it gets sane by the time I'm able to vote, or else I might just tell the government to go fuck itself.

Abortion: care about.
Same-sex marriage: care about.
marijuana legalization: don't care about.

Things will eventually be brought to a close, either by the federal or state governments. It will either be nationwide or differ per state. Well, that's just a possibility. The two-party system handicaps action to the extreme.

or we could skip all that bureaucratic shit and just start the revolution whos with me

abortion: wrapped up within 60 years
same sex marriage: wrapped up in 45 years
marijuana legalization: 20 years.

those are my predictions. frankly the older generation needs to die for these issues to be wrapped up.

All debates/controversies either:

-Get resolved.

-Fizzle out because its no longer relevant and the generation that cared about it died.

-Both of the above.

Eventually, people will no longer care about the issues(and many more) that you've posted above.

All of those things will be resolved when democrats and republicans are no longer at each others throats, which is about as likely to happen as Assassins and Templars becoming friends in the assassin's creed games.

Is your name a reference to Poe, and also, what's that avatar about?

OT: I think pot will get legalized eventually just because the science against it is a bit shaky. Otherwise, no.

Six. Six different opinions.

Anyway OP: I think eventually. Perhaps not within the next ten years, but eventually these will come to a close. Especially when the zombie robot overlords take-over. We'll have better things to discuss.

I think that marijuana will become legal soon so the government can tax it, but the other two I am not sure about.

We Americans will argue about anything for any reason. There is no rationality to it at all. it's just the way we are. Even after an issue is resolved, there will be an argument about the way it was fixed, rather than the issue itself.

america will figure all this out eventually. The reason it doesn't happen now is because there is always some looming problem to tackle first. presidents get maybe one domestic issue resolved per administration, and they will run their campaign on it, if it doesn't have enough support it won't happen. Same sex marriage, abortion, marijuana legality, these things don't have enough support one way or the other to swing a vote. until they do you won't see them get resolved.

IF china becomes a superpower and takes on a bigger role in policing the world america might find itself forced to look at domestic issues harder and then we might see some real progress.

No, because nobody actually intends to do anything with them.

By the way you can add "prayer in schools" to that list.

Nothing about any of them will ever actually be done, they're just common issues some people identify with, so politicians can take a stance on them in order to automatically get support from certain people. It's been around for longer than I have.

what IF more like WHEN China becomes a superpower
but if you think about it countries do generally become less crazed when they no longer rule the world, just look at England we used to Empire crazed now we stagnate quietly and aren't too polarised
