I'm missing what I've twisted here. Personal protection, if you feel that you need it. Personal protection does not equate to "taking justice into your own hands".

They were even doing little impromptu skits about shooting people that fucked with them, and here I am, thinking "why in the hell are they allowed to handle a firearm!?!"

yeah read it again and note how i said i'm against that kind of culture. "taking justice into your own hands" i'm referring to the real reason the founding fathers put #2 amendment into the constitution, a.k.a. allowing citizens to be armed, so that the people could throw off an oppressive government, although some would argue that that purpose is obsolete now.[/quote]

you do not all need guns. if nobody had a gun exept the police and people with valid reasons, then gun violence would be almost non existant. Before you go 2nd amendment and constitution on me, the patriot act raped the constitution already, and nobody complained for years...

The unfortunate fact is that a lot of criminals have guns. If you could take the guns away from them and keep them without guns, then yes, zero tolerance gun control would work. But again, they have the guns and they will most likely not give them up without a fight. The fact that the house they may want to rob might also have a gun or two in it discourages them, though to what extent, I don't know, I've never had to worry about robbing someone.

I will go with the "criminals get guns through illegal means" argument therefore we need guns to protect ourselves against those people.

And I am all for Law Enforcement and Military having superior guns to those in the streets.
