The Madman said:You call yourself 'unaverage' and yet you still fall for the American 'hate the French' fad just like those backwater uneducated hick out there? Pity.JaredXE said:And as an unaverage American, I would agree. Then I remember that they tolerate the french, and there goes any desire to live there.
The Quebecois are not exiled to Quebec, that's their province and has been since the start when the English defeated the French and North America became an English colony. Despite that it's not like the settlers that'd already moved to Canada could just pack up and leave, and so Quebec is a primarily French speaking province. Many of my relatives live there, although I do not.
Similarly if it weren't for that defeat, the French likely would not have aided the American Revolution, and there'd be no USA. Which is why I'm puzzled over this entire 'freedom fries' thing ya Americans got going.
Gah! I'm just being cranky. But seriously, the American's hate of anything French is silly beyond belief. Freedom Fries? REALLY?
No, I have had a dislike for the french loooong before the "freedom fries" thing. I detest that Fox News led fad as well, especially since I'm intelligent enough to know where french fries and french toast actually come from and felt that it should have come as no surprise to anyone that France rebuked America for our actions and refused to support our government.
No, my dislike of the french stems from actually encountering them and seeing how inherently snobbish their culture is. And I feel ridiculious having to qualify my last sentence with "And no, I don't believe that every french person acts the same way and I am sure there are always exceptions" since I know stereotyping is wrong, despite that a stereotype only becomes that way when a significant portion of the population conforms to the ideal.
Oh, and what exactly did the french do for the American revolution? They gave us some guns(so did the spanish and germans) and then showed up late at Yorktown AFTER we had beat Cornwallis......and so Lafayette got a few streets named after him. I think we showed enough gratitude.
