One of the first things a professional chef is taught is that fat is flavor, horses aren't very fatty. (Please note, this is just an assumption. I have never actually eaten horse meat.) Thus they probably taste bad. Ethically theres no difference in eating any animal, including humans imo. Biologically there are issues with eating various animals, including humans.

While that's usually the case, you also have to consider that the higher sugar concentrations in grain-eating animals will caramelize, and there are more acids (lots and lots of flavor here) in labor-animal meat. I've had horsemeat and I can say that, while it's a bit tougher than beef, the flavor is so much better.

I love animals. I even owe my namesake to one.

But would I eat any animal, even just to try it? Yes. Horses included? Also yes. Besides, horses are evil.

I can see how you would morally opposed to eating THAT horse. I had a dog when I was younger. When it died, it tore me appart as well. Would I still try dog meat? Yes.

Yeah, I'd eat pretty much any vertebrate, but I draw the line at invertebrates (I don't even like crayfish or shellfish). I really like camel and ostrich, they're both much nicer than beef. I've tried goat, crocodile, emu and kangaroo. I've never had horse but I've heard it's quite tasty. I'd even try cat, dog, or even rat despite having pet rats that I adore.
So, yeah. Go the horsemeat!

Makes for pretty tasty sausages, though not sure the price is worth it.

Edit: Oh yeah, and as above. Apparantly it's called Hamburgerkött (lit. hamburgermeat) because nobody would buy it under the name horsemeat.
In the few places it's sold in the US, and I think most English speaking areas, it's called cheval for the same reason. Only cheval is French for horse, so, yeah. Sneaky marketers trying to sneak French food into our American diets.

OT: I haven't tried it, although I have no reason not to try it. I love to eat some pretty disgusting looking things they dredge up off the seafloor: shrimp, crab, octopus, squid, etc., so it may surprise me as being quite good.

I have eaten horse meat several times. It's pretty common as Hamburgerkött in Sweden. (We eat it on bread, like ham)
I'll have to make a mental note of that:

In Sweden, hamburgers means horse meat. Talk about deceptive advertising. I'll be weary at the next smorgasbord I go to.

I would love to eat a horse. It's honestly on my bucket list. I would love to try it, most certainly.

I still wouldnt eat any horse. Animals have personalities, they think for themselves, they are alot like us. Ive never seen a cow or pig I could cuddle up to. Although the pig thing might be changing.
Some animals are smart and do have personalities, I will admit. But quite a few (including my dog) are as stupid as bricks.

See, I don't have much of a problem with eating meat (I went hunting quite a few times), and was prepared to kill an animal in cold blood. So I guess I just detached myself from it.

I would love to eat horse, but then I try to eat as many different types of animals as I can; guinea pig has been on my list of meats that I must try before I die ever since I did a research paper on Peru in middle school, and discovered that it was a common meat in parts of the country. I think that tells you all you need to know about what I'm willing to eat :3

Pigs are smarter than dogs, as are chickens and sheep apparently can recognize human faces better. Cows might be too.[footnote]http://abcnews.go.com/WNT/Science/story?id=771414&page=1[/footnote]

Well its quite odd. We got hamburgare which is burgers (aka Mc'donalds and such). With Hamburgarekött is most often horse meat (Some might be something else) so keep in mind when somebody talks about hamburgarekött on sandwhich then its most often horse meat otherwise its normal beef (or whatever burgers are made of ^^)

Btw is Smörgåsbord actually common at all?

I'm Canadian and I have eaten horse... I wasnt impressed.

And the reason why people get weird about eating horse is because of there strong historical and cultural connection to them. As well as the fact that they are flighty in a way that many traditional meat animals are not, which tends to result in a much worse death. In the end I'm not fond of eating horse on an ethical level, but its not some huge deal to me either, it also just wasnt that good.

But then you are killing a wild animal. If a deer could kill you, it would.
I'm not seeing your point really...

Also, it was wild turky, which are nice in Missouri.
