I'm thinking about changing my internet service provider to Eastlink, my current one is Bell Aliant. Which one is better in your experience? From what I hear from a neighbor of mine when he was with Eastlink, his internet would constantly go down and then start back up again. That is bad but things have happened with Bell (long story) that is making me think I should change. Which is the better company?

Honestly, we're pretty much stuck choosing from "shitty" and "Shitty but marginally different."

Though I will say that Bell can fuck right off.

Sorry, but what's going on with your providers?

Stupid bullshit in our County. We get a letter saying that as part of fixing up the Township, new fiber optic cables were going to be connected to the houses along the roads. However, these new high speed cables are only going to the new houses that weren't connected to the old phone lines. So pretty much half of the houses are stuck using a godawful satellite connection because nothing else is being offered. It's a hundred dollar a month for an at best 256kbs connection rate. It's a fucking scam compared to the offers I've seen in the cities.

Thankfully, university has it's own, better connection. But when I'm at home, it just sucks horribly.

Merh that sucks man. Do you guys have an option to like, buy into the program to upgrade the systems or anything? Or are they strictly doing it as a government program?

256kbs? Damn they are ripping you guys...

off topic: Hey this is the first time I've seen one of the ad captchas everyone always complains about...I'm not on here a lot...

I think that it is a government program. They started talking about it when the Ontario Action Plan signs started popping up last year. Never really did anything apart from put that damn sign up.

It is nasty price gouging though. The ironic thing is that our spot of the Township falls just outside that of the actual town, so we rely on the tower.... that is blocked by a damn forest. So we can't get the high speed town connections, and we are stuck with the only ISP who covers our area.

Weird. The first company to start offering that kind of service in your area is gonna make a killing...

Well, your not the only ones being fucked over by your ISP, BT is shit!

I get 30-100 kb/s download rate (Mostly about 40) with daily disconnecting and random lag spikes (YAY!).

So yeah.... I hate BT.....

I used to be with Rogers, now I'm with Bell, but they're bastards too. So I haven't got a damn clue.

I just use Bell. The connection's pretty good, but then I live in Edmonton so I couldn't really vouch for it in a more rural environment.

There are some really good independant isps setting up shop across Canada. I'm in the NCR and have TekSavvy. They are AWESOME. Would highly recommend checking them out to see if you can get service in your area. Much better than Bell and Shaw.

Shaw? Rogers? Telus?
Telus maybe? As far as I know it is Sasktel because only a few years ago did real lines get made to this town. Five years ago everyone was still on Dial Up. A good number still are today.

Hey, I'm from a small town in northern Sask (Remember those couple mounties that got shot a few summers back? Shooter's farm was, like, a ten minute drive from me.), trust me, I know all about dial-up.

But nah, Sasktel ain't the only game in town. I'm in Saskatoon using Shaw as we speak.

I don't know how long I'd trust Bell. They're our satellite provider, and they're constantly altering the bill, adding and dropping charges, changing what channels are in our package, etc. If their internet service is any better, I'd be surprised. Eastlink sounds pretty decent, from the few accounts I've heard, but I don't know many people who use it, so I could be totally off.
