If someone has a history of being banned for flaming people and being unnecessarily rude, and clearly has not learned his lesson? If it was someone's first offense, they wouldn't be permabanned. However, we have to take history into account.
To avoid calling names in a forum, I know a individual who been suspended/banned I don't know how many times. How can you justify perma bans on people with a history when people such as cough splutter cough, have been banned/suspended senseless without a perma ban?
(If you need the name of the person just say and i'll pm, i'm not going to throw his/her name up in the air)

Another thing you guys should know, that I do every time I have a problem with something. If I see something that blows my mind and I think ban, or I have a question about a user or lock or something, I get on IRC [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/chat/] and message and talk to a mod about whatever is on my mind.

I do it quite often and discuss the matter with a mod and get their input, and reaction. Just ask Wilson, I get on and bug him a lot telling him what I think he needs to lock or do, and he always is helpful and explains the situation to me and looks over the thread to see if it needs locked.

Don't complain that things you want locked are being locked unless you are willing to contact a mod and ask about it.

Also, I'm gonna straight up say it I'm glad Mobius has been banned. I'm sick of his unnecessary bullshit, especially his "Good Bye" threads. The one in the Forum Games and RPs section was ridiculous, and he named names of people he felt ruined the site. Over the past few months he just seemed to turn into an ass, and all of his posts felt aggressive and hostile towards everyone.

I'm somewhat surprised Empyrean wasn't banned for her thread she posted about her leaving, and as for Necroswanson, he had it coming. He had been repetitively banned for flaming, hell I remember in Mobius' good bye in the RP Section he called Cheeze Pavillion a c---, and then he makes that post. He obviously had had enough here and it was time for him to go.

That's my two cents at least.

I liked Mobius, but that thread was pushing it, Cheeze_Pavilion wasn't even involved untill Mobius had a go at him.
I'm not sad Mobius was banned, I'm sad he wouldn't stop being an arse.

What is the etiquette concerning PM'ing a mod about a thread, that I think is in need of attention?

That said, there is such a thing as too much information. Making a user's entire ban/probation history public, for example. A short-and-sweet explanation is in order, but I don't think "transparency" should mean letting everyone indulge their drama-voyeurism.

Oh heavens no. I'd just like a line or two, that's all: and I think that's all everyone wants. No need to drag up everything a user has done wrong...

While I understand your anger towards Mobius, tone it down a little, ok? Trying to keep things civil here.

I'd like to know this as well. It'd probably help us all out if we knew when/what about we can/should contact mods about.

Funny Joke is supposedly not funny, but does make one liable for probation >.>
Actually, it was for derailing the thread.
This does not bode well for my future.

...I feel as if I've placed myself in front of the firing squad with this post, so to try to keep it on topic...

You uh...realize that making a new account to get around a ban is ban-worthy, right?
I'm sure what you meant to say was that you were banned on another site, or maybe on WarCry.

Anyway, I think the mods do fine, though I still feel that taking someone's entire history into account can cause them to be lenient with people who really do deserve a harsher punishment (like that guy in the "Are you gay?" thread, for instance,) at least in my opinion.

But with the way threads repeat around here, I'm sure the trolls and the like will be banned, since they can't pass up an opportunity to spread the hate.
You do realize that you can get banned for few days first prior to getting that permanent ban right? oh wait that was a suspension. I'll revise my statement

"I got suspended once and it was a learning experience for me. Thanks people.
-> I'm not being sarcastic.

ooohh.... i love this tread, you see, i have always tought of the "powers that be" as some sentienr unreachable entity that acts on Justice, i never question some of the bans, and i post a LOT but have never being put on probation... and if you or your buddy is suspended or perma baned... well... i would think along the lines of "he probably earned it" instead of "OOOHH the MODS ARE HAVING A VENDETTA AGAINST MY FRIEND"

i know that being an enforcer is bad because you earn the hate (in some times) of people because they dont understand, but i would love to be one of you MODS, anyway, the rules are simple, why so much trouble keeping with them?? oh, thats right, most people think the internet is their personal trash can were they can trow anything they want in.

in my opinion, the rules are badly explained, but in the end, its common sense what should be put into practice when posting, someting some people seem to lack off

Do you have a link to the offending post?

LIES!

They are the ever vigilant justice of our world. Those that dare question the infallibility of the mods are heretics and must be tried before the Inquisition (which naturally no-one expects)

In the time between this thread being created and now, I believe the suspension has been upgraded to a perma-ban.

Speaking of threads that are gone, I've noticed a couple of older threads are gone: are locked threads now being deleted, is this just a result of server changes at this site, or a little of both?
Actually, I had also noticed some un-locked threads being deleted. (Old-ish ones, that were never locked...)
