I was just about to ask the same thing. He has been blatantly trolling all morning.

I don't think he was saying that just to target Christians, he was using it in the same way anyone says gay or retarded. Doesn't really seem like a bannable offense to me. That's my opinion.
This Christian (Catholic, actually) would disagree. He was using the word Christian as a synonym with stupidity. That's offensive, regardless of whether or not he intended it to be a joke.
...You mean like how people use gay or retarded to mean stupid? Which I've seen people use substantially more than the one instance of 'christian'? I'm not trying to say this offensively at all, so please don't misinterpret me when I say get over it. You're reading too much into it, and it seems you care that he used the word 'christian' because you are one. Again, don't take anything I'm saying the wrong way.

Sorry, that fails to prove to me that he thinks less of it than Yahtzee thinks of people with developmental issues, or Katy Perry thinks of gay men (I don't really listen to Katy Perry so I'll assume she doesn't like them). From what I read, Mobius is merely saying that he doesn't believe in christianity and presenting an argument as to why. He actually seems fairly knowledgeable about religion. He does disagree with you, but he doesn't really say anything I'd classify as offensive.

Again: It wasn't just that post

And to clarify, he wasn't using it like people use 'Retarted' or 'Gay', because those are insensitively used to attack the victim, incidentally attacking the disabled or homosexual. Mobius used the term 'Christian' to attack those of faith, anvilling it into that situation with little provocation, going so far as to provide a link to show everyone his intentions. He wasn't using it to imply that the victim of his ire was something to be detested, he was trying to link Christianity with things he percieved as negative, out of one of his many long-standing grudges. Having spoken to him via IM's and PM's, I don't doubt that he believed the majority of the things he said. Unprovoked attacks are bannable, that is what he did.
He was using it in the EXACT SAME WAY as anyone says gay or retarded. I really don't understand why people don't realize this. Click the link he added for the word 'christian', read his post, and then read rolan7's entire post explaining the christian thing. I'm sorry, but I don't believe he said that just because he hates christians, and you can't tell me otherwise and expect me to believe it. I also realize that I will not convince you. I'm stating my opinion, so let's please just drop that aspect. Neither of us know what his true intentions were, so let's stop speculating.

Again, (to all) don't take what I say offensively, because it's not meant that way.

I did as well. I can't answer for anyone else, but I know I saw a handful of the usual "+1 to post count, report and move on" replies.

Just wanted to be sure, as action had already been taken when the tech team ran across him through another method by coincidence.

Also, remember that the new 'warning' moderation type is not publicly visible, so even if you don't see something done, that doesn't mean it hasn't been addressed.

I have no fear, for with the hamsters' help, I shall see the wheel matrix, and can move like they do.

Or something like that. Obviously I need more caffeine.

Meh, even though I've been moderated like, once, I think, and it was just probation, it's the moderation that has made me come to the forums less and less often.

Too bad all the people who get banned/suspended are the ones who usually entertain me with their posts.
I need to clarify something here, we have a new moderation feature that allows us to send you a "warning." This warning acts as a note in your user history. If you get a forum warning it's officially a "Hey, don't do this anymore." message and nothing more. Warnings will not show up outside of your user history, and they will not affect your badges either.
I figured, but I think the message in my post wasn't quite as clear as I intended. I didn't mean my own moderation, I don't care about it at all, but sometimes when I see the moderation of others, I think they were suspended or something like that for no reason. However, this isn't my forum and I can't decide the rules, so the decision of what's okay/not okay isn't up to me.

Huh, take a few weeks break and it looks like you all had loads of fun while I was gone.

I'm glad Necro was banned, he always grated on me the wrong way.

Yeah, the Mobius thing...frankly, I thought it was meant to be a rather good piece of irony.

P.S Oh, Cheeze is still with us. Excellent. I've been away for a while, so I was wondering if he'd bit the bullet.

I see a lot of people get all wound up about bans, and why/how people get banned, and OMG maybe they'll come for me, and stuff. Not just here, but in pretty much every forum I've belonged to or ran.

The thing is, it's really easy to avoid getting banned. It's one, pithy phrase coined by Wil Wheaton; "Don't be a dick." That's all. Don't mess with people, don't run them down, don't post stuff to piss them off, and don't waste their time with meaningless crap; just minding your manners covers at least 90% of all forum rules I've ever encountered.

More transparency in moderation is good, but from my experience it's a huge time-suck to put it all out there and still be fair to the guys on the receiving end of moderator wrath. I moderated a high-traffic forum trying to be up-front and clear, and it ended up that I spent all my time on it as forum cop and zero time being part of the community... and that sucks when it's a volunteer gig, and it's exhausting sometimes dealing with all that drama. So I'm not going to gripe about adminstration here, however opaque it may seem to some; besides, I can usually spot who's due for bruising, and why, without the Coles' Notes version. (See paragraph above.)

Seriously. Just do your best to make the place better, and try not to piss other people off, and you're golden. Don't sweat it.

Well I am sorry that you misinterpreted my tone or whatever, especially since I clearly stated that nothing I said was meant in an offensive way. This is what I was getting at in my previous post: you don't know my intentions, so please don't think you do. I'm being assertive in my opinion, and it's a little frustrating when people don't understand what you're trying to say.

if a mod is theoretically found to be breaking the rules, is it possible for them to receive the banhammer as well? (theoretically speaking of course, I'm not suggesting that its happened before) In essence, is there anyone who watches the Watchmen?
Many months back -over half a year ago actually- wilson banned himself as an experiment. Thankfully, he could unban himself as well.

He was talking about it in a thread, but it was so long ago that I can't remember which one.

We've upgraded Empyrean's ban to a permanent one. Because the personalized "fuck-yous" in her tirade also turned out to contain porn links. Moderator consensus is that this is real classy.

Now I just have to ask - any chance of my getting a peek behind the 403 forbidden curtain at this post, because now I'm really curious . . .
