Today At My School Someone Lit Themselves On Fire.

My school didn't so much go for knives as broken glass bottles. There were a few fights that got people taken to hospital(nothing long lasting though, just bruises and a broken bone here and there, the most you could hope for was a little cool scar).
There was also a guy threatening to go on a shooting spree in the school and kill himself, turns out he was just an extreme attention whore.

We got petrol bombed last year though, by some chavvy ex-pupil, no one got hurt, so s'all good.

i remember in year 3 some kids from a highschool came and killed 2 year twos and tried to hack a preps* head off with an axe before we smashed them over the head with a metal bar and got the office to call the police.

*prep is the preparatory year that comes before year 1

Rather a lot of fistfights, but I'm in Canada. One person tried it with me in gym and I simply gave him a bear hug until I cracked some of his ribs, his face went purple, and he passed out. Then I had some tumors taken out of my right arm (not cancer, fibro... m something - mailgia, mitosis, miosis... so many fibro-m's). I went back to school while the staples were still in, the radiation burns still fresh, and the scar still crusty and told everyone I was mauled by a bear.

They weren't really surprised that I managed to kill it before it took my arm off.

Some guy used his cell phone to call in a bomb threat to the office while in plain view of the office. That was pretty funny, wasn't actually there for it but still happened at my school.

Worst thing I ever witnessed was a punch thrown in Art History class, back at high school.
As for college, the last Thursday of November is traditionally set aside for getting drunk. So the police are out in force around the areas surrounding campus on that particular day.

on the burning thing, it sucks. i mean it really sucks. something happened like that to my mum, she had an extension cord and iron explode on he, i was 9 and i had to be the one who comforted her and call an ambulance. she had her arm amputated and 5 degree burns (which means she should really be dead), its a shit thing and you don't ever wanna wish something like it on anyone.

our school is essentially harmless but weve had loads of scares. like knife threats and loads of fights. the only proper bad stuff were like some kid trying to commit suicide by setting his toilet cubicle alight, some kid being tied to a tree and tortured, a girl eating some dangerous chemical and a peadophile caretaker (now convicted on 6 cases).

I have to admit i did make some dangerous stuff with my mates as a laugh, but we never threatened anyone with them, we made stuff like crossbows, flamethrowers, shanks (one you could fire about half a metre on a bungie cord), and a bloody good taser that welded metal. But i'd never use them on someone.

Most fights happen on the rugby pitch, but I'm lucky because i have made a name for myself for being a ruthless psychopath. I've broken peoples ribs from bearhugs, knocked people out, broken arms, legs and ankles, but best achievment was an accident when i fractured a guys eyesocket.

So what, your school is still weaksauce until you have full blown riots.

During my high school years, we had two bomb threats, three fires randomly started in lockers, several gay kids beaten severely (one almost to death), and a car accident where it's very likely that the people were actually TRYING to run the guy over. And before you ask, no, I'm not American, I come from a smalltown in Canada.

Less of that stuff happens in schools in the US then you think. The US (310 million) is just far, far larger then Canada (30 million), UK (65 million) and Australia (25 million) together, Seeing how we overreact because a kid brings a plastic knife to school (and it makes national headlines) this crap can't be a daily occurrence in each of the thousands of schools in the country.

Little facts for you: The US is the most populous predominately English speaking country in the world, and the third most populous country over all, yet only accounts for 4.5% of the world population. China and India together account for 37% of the world population.

I live in the posh heart of jolly old England where one of our 15 year olds was kicked out of school for downing a pint of vodka, the 6 year old boys have ponytails and earings, we used the have chair fights (Big metal chairs, throw at each other), light gas taps, brew alcohol in chemistry lessons, smash people through windows, bomb threats once a month, usual stuff.

My school was on lockdown for a few hours in 2008 because someone had brought a gun in threatening to kill a girl. I knew the guy & he had left the school. I was at a FBLA meeting outside of the school with other students & we kept in touch with other people by cell phone. The lockdown lasted for about half the school day.

There has never been anything dangerous at my school. The closest thing was some gas that had leaked, so the school was locked down until they found out what it was. In the end it turned out to be harmless.

Never had anything dangerous happen in my school. Well... there was one time where one of my friends found a complete randomer in the school shed, but he was pissed off his face and had no idea how he'd got there. He was easy to get rid of.

Some kids smoked weed in the toilets... *shrugs* I got nothin'.

I had a semi-automatic rifle and a 12 gauge shotgun and a few dozen rounds of ammunition in the trunk of my car while I was in high school one day. I was planning on going out to a shooting range and doing some target shooting after school and I didn't feel like stopping at home before hand. I can't imagine the shit I would've gotten into had someone found out.

Massive bushfire, whole-school student strikes over politically motivated dissolution of jobs, politicians bringing in armed heavies to harass staff and students alike. Quite a few years back, but the school I went to had a few notable incidents. Apart from the events surrounding #2, none adversely affected me.

My thoughts are definitely with those involved in the thread opener's incident. That's unimaginably horrible, and I dread to hear of the follow-up reports. Sad day indeed.
