Oh! Thought of something that did happen at school.
The Westboro Baptists happened.
Some guy, a few years prior, killed himself because a bunch of homophobic idiots kept harassing him. His sister, being a reasonable human being, decided to start a club for gays and gay supporters so that in the future, students being bullied would have a place to go.
The WBC apparantley didn't like this.
They spent thousands of dollars in travel costs, countless hours of planning, and organizing. They got to stand out on a corner that wasn't even visible from the road, or the buses, for half an hour.
And what came of their visit? The whole school rallied to support the Gay Straight Alliance club, and they raised several hundred dollars for their club selling anti-hate buttons.
Also, I would just like to add, personally, I feel that God was watching over us the day of their protest. It poured rain on them.[/i]
normally, i dont do religion, but it does so wonderfully allow for artfull speach XD
book of me, chapter I verse I:
and let it poureth onto those with no brains, like foolishness poures from their mouthes..
-grins XD- silly WB baptists XD
We had a visit from them earlier this semester. Apparently the school is promoting use of alcohol and orgies in the classroom. Okay, seriously, I've been here for three years, where's the "get shitfaced and screw your classmates" class in the catalog?
I've had a lot of mixed experiences. For a part of junior high I lived in a bad neihborhood with a lot of gang activity. The population was about 50-50 hispanic to whites and there were a lot of fights on campus. Then there was a time I actually got shot at on my way home from school, didn't get hit thank god but still, but that was unrelated.
Afterwards through the rest of junior high and highschool it was pretty normal with the exeption of about half the idiots from the highschool being terrible drivers and there were usually two, sometimes more, accidents a month. I was a passenger in more than my fair share share of them too. Once the wreck was so bad that the car started to fill with smoke and it took a while to get out of my seat-belt, from then on I always had a knife of some sort on hand.
Then things went back to being bad when I went to college, while I was there there were a few muggings, robbery at gunpoint, one of my classmates actually beat the shit out of a guy that tried to rob her.
Honestly, what puzzles me about the WBC is how they're still alive. It baffles me that they haven't protested the wrong military funeral and gotten picked off by a less than psychologically stable vet or family member, or for bonus points both, who's (understandably) less than thrilled with their protesting his friend's funeral.
I used to walk the halls of my high school with a chainsaw or an axe.
I was in the forestry class, we got to got outside daily to cut down trees and clear brush from the nature trails but our supply room was in the middle of the basement, so we have to carry the gear all through the school.

At nature science class we were working on some experiment when someone in class managed to set fire to the tip of a canister with highly explosive stuff. I was standing close to the canister and showed my heroism by running out of the classroom as fast as I could! \o/
It didn't explode btw. The teacher threw herself over the tables with a wet rug and put it out, then I came back into the room and felt a bit ashamed. Probably for the best, I reckon my reaction to put the fire out would be to blow on it.
BOOM!
They don't allow the public purchase of firearm in Hong Kong, so I guess that's a no.
Actually, that's a lie. In several days, I've seen the drivers of an armored bank truck carrying a black case in and out of my school while welding shotguns.
Digging one out of the ancient file, when my mother was in college (early 1960s) she had a chem professor who made Phosgene [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Phosgene] in the lab.

Absolutely fucking nothing ever happens at my school. I live in one of the safest areas in one of the safest cities in the world, and my school is almost entirely made up of hardworking asian kids and rich, bored, douchebag white kids.
Most excitement I remember was a fight in the caf and one of the teachers sprinted halfway across the room vaulted (kinda) onto a table and dove into the fray to break it up.
My school was odd. They turned blind eyes to knives at school, but if you threaten someone then your in deep trouble. They essentially have picked one specific stage of something bad happening, and only try to eliminate that one part.
1. Bullying
2. Threatening
3. Weapon found
But now I'm getting off topic. The knife thing was the first thing to pop into my head, but I'd go with minor flooding combined with a power outage.

On that subject, making my teacher melt down in... fourth(?) grade. She decided the best way to handle this kid who'd been bullying me was to get him to sit next to me, and me next to her at lunch. I forget exactly what he did to set me off, but I bounced his head off the table a couple times. Afterward she was just mumbling "but I was right there" over and over to herself.

Says you. It's a dry campus, and they have a policy that fines students for sleeping in someone else's dorm room. (Thank god transfer students (like myself) never actually have to live on campus.)
