Thought I'd share this I thought it was both beautiful and tragic at the same time.

Beautiful because it's still Tony Hawk showing exactly why he was one of the top skaters in the world, and it's a real nice "You still got it moment"

Tragic in that it's probably the last one he'll ever do, you see how difficult it was for him to pull off and for a little bit it looked almost like he started doubting his ability too. Even after nailing it, you can tell he is pissed that it was as difficult as it was.

Is there anything you're really good at now that you fear sucking at do to the meddling of Father Time?

Would have been more uplifting if he like, stayed after and was like, proud of himself. Instead he just like...leaves. Now I'm just kind of bummed out.

Aging is frustrating, but he least he owns it. Nobody stays young forever, but the greats will always be the greats.

That came across as far less uplifting than I expected. Thanks for sharing though.

I was there at the first one back in...98? 99? At the pier. World Industries got in trouble when they dumped buckets of stickers from a helicopter, cause so many fell into the bay. There were random 20s 5s and 1s mixed in.

It took him DAYS to land it. The sun had set while we waited. It was bull that they let him try so many times. At least we got to kick it with all the skaters in the VIP area.

Swear that guy used his mums uterus as a skating bowl and her Fallopian tubes as half pipes. Shame his last 900 was like his last game.

I thought he did a 1080 or something.

THPS2 was a pretty awesome game. Played it plenty enough even though I never had much interest in skating.

Wow, he just looks so...old.
I know he is technically old, but he seems almost...fragile.

Still, glad he hit at least one more before he either rides of into the sunset or takes it a little easier on himself. Either way, it seemed like a nice way to pretty much drop the mic and walk away.

Seemed so bummed afterwards, I wonder if he had any pride left in doing it. Or even what the purpose of it was, just confirming that he could still pull it off, or that he's gotten too old for this shit. Anyone would be running around screaming with pride after popping a 900, I hope he felt better for the rest of the day at least. I mean this short depressing video is like yet another landmark for him. He may have been the first to do a 900, now he'll probably be the only one to do it at 48, long after most pros retire or stop altogether.

Doesn't it also have to do with the fact that he has developed some really bad arthritis from all the crashing he's done while skating?
I hope that he lives the rest of his life in peace and happiness. Dude is a legend now. It may of been his last 900 but damn if he didn't inspire a lot of people.

This is fucking amazing, I felt too old to keep skateboarding once I turned 25, granted I'm 6'4 and 265 lbs so every fall wrecked me and every trick felt like literally breaking how gravity is supposed to work; I would die happy if I could earnestly attempt a kickflip at age 48, never mind pulling a 900 in a halfpipe.

I mean you saw how confident he was going into it that he could still do it and then saw the bitter reality of it.

It's like Wayne Gretzky retiring man. He clearly still loves it, but his body is getting older and the young pups are coming up.

Not a lot of athletes get to choose their last outing like that. Better he did it while he could than before his physical condition wouldn't let him anymore.

Aww poor guy. It's still really amazing seeing him pull it off and quite humble of him to show him falling before he did it, I agree with the other guys though, he really just looked like he was done with skating in general after he landed it, I think reality had suddenly caught up with him, which I should imagine is quite scary.

I wonder if he takes any comfort in knowing that he's now pretty much a legend and those never die. Like Gretzky, Babe Ruth or Mohammed Ali, younger athletes may come along and surpass them, but in the eyes of many they will always remain the greatest.

Tony Hawk is no longer the name of a skater, but that of THE skater.

Shit... That just made me want to play any of the Pro Skater games from the mid 90s/early 00s...

Other than that, tomorrow is so far away... but, we all can't live to skate forever...
