Pokemon is the greatest game in existence.

No other game has little balloon things that would kill and eat children if they could successfully carry them.
no other game has a mouse with electrical abilities...no other game has balls that you throw at animals...no other game has professors named after tree's and no other game is successfully on the TV and being a game at the same time...

in other words...it's very unique ^_^

and nope...im 18 and love it!

Practically everyone I know from my age-group (over 18's) will, at least, demonstrate a knowledge of and make reference to Pokemon in jokes. Hell, a few nights ago I went on Bulbapedia with a friend and we made our ideal Pokemon team.

I'm 22 and am still trying to catch em' all. If I were to go by the standards of the original, I would have. If I were to go by the Silver-Gold standards then I think Celebii is the only one I'm missing. I should probably point out at this point that I don't care what people think about me

It's actually a very good game under all it's child appealing appearance. I'll probably breakout Platinum again for my holiday this year and I'm 23.

Yeah, I recently picked up Pokemon Pearl again, and I considered getting SoulSilver for my (20th) birthday, so I can say it's definitely not just for kids.

Of course one thing is playing the games, but doing pretend Pokemon battles is a whole different thing. They were pretty fun when I was young, though.

Never! I went through a drought of Pokemon from Red to Pearl because I don't do handheld gaming often. However, I got to borrow Pearl and instantly fell in love again. Now, I'm on Soul Silver and still loving it. I'm 25 btw, so I don't think you can ever be too old. It's one of those games that handle the ballance of hardcore and casual almost perfectly.

Children play Pokémon differently.
Ask an 8 year old kid what EV's and IV's are, he won't be able to answer you.

Anything I say is pretty much redundant because it's all been covered. Pokemon: Looks cute on the outside but inside it's a labyrinth of stats and number crunching, more so than most other RPGs. It's very hard core and yet also casual.

Basically, it appeals to everyone.

You're never too old for pokemon. I'm 21, starting with Pokemon Blue I've played one game from every generation and I'm really looking forward to getting SoulSilver when my workload eases off over the summer.

pokemon bring back memories, times of struggle during battle and how far someone can go if they sit down to take the time to level up to the extremes.

Pokemon is often classified as a kiddies game, and I blame the TV series solely for this. They interpritated the series quite badly and made the Pokemon seem too cutesy in my opinion, they could have made them a lot more middle of the road (but then again, it was FUNimation that edited the American/English version).

To the game itself, I think it's a brilliant compromise between the young and old. For the younger generations, they get a fun game with lots of different creatures to mess around with. But I can tell everyone here, for us (the older generation), it's a serious, hard working game when you're working out a truely indestructible team to compete with. Trial and Error, complimentary types, skills and moves, the works. I'm always looking at improving my squads.

For this reason I don't think Pokemon is kiddy. It's too involving and has too much potential to be simply disregarded as a kiddy game. I love it, and Froslass is my favourite Pokemon of all time.

I grew out of Pokemon when I was twelve. Moved onto DBZ 'till I was fifteen then grew out of anime all together.

Look, I'm all for people and their various likes and Hell, a twenty-five year old can get into Pokemon if they want... but I do think it's weird. Face it, Pokemon is marketed for children, it's a children's franchise. It's not an adult fantasy to want to wander around the world collecting cute little glass-eyed animals and fight in magical battles with others... unless you're some kind of warped taxidermist maybe.

And don't anyone argue that "on the surface it's kiddy but it's really about numbercrunching and statistics" - please. I used the same trick on my parents to get them to buy me Pokemon shit when I was a kid. It's pretty transparent.

But yeah, maybe it works on a diferent level for adults or maybe that's just what the older Pokemaniacs tell themselves to convince themselves they're not loopy. Who knows, I don't. But this brings me back to where I started - it's still pretty fucking weird to hear 20+ males talk about their cute little Pokemon - but, also like I said earlier, people can play whatever the Hell they want no matter how old they get.

Six hundred.

To anyone who claims that Pokemon is just for children...

Say that to him
while i understand that you can look up to your respective idols as it were, i fail to see how you can rationalize one manchild's behavior as an example everyone should follow. just because everyone steals doesn't make it the right thing to do.

The combat system in the games is actually really deep and if you head over to

http://www.smogon.com/

you'll see that Pokemon is pretty damn serious, they're sorted every Pokemon into different tiers and every Pokemon has different builds with specific EV and IV distributions.

Never too old for Pokemon, I just battled someone at work yesterday... Were in our mid 20's.

Had a job at a game testing company a while back and when Pokemon Pearl and Diamond came out it was pretty intense, think I saw more people playing than back when I was in elementary school when Red / Blue came out.

I'd say the games are for all ages but the anime can't satisfy me any more. It feels dumb and the way the Pokémons talk doesn't really help.
