For me, this happens with my fellow 12-graders. (The 7- and 8-year-old I babysit are more mature than most of these people.)

Does this make us all egotists if we answer yes? 8D

No.
I tend to talk without thinking. If I were to think, my responses would probably take hours to formulate.
Still, this means I sometimes get blank looks for what I would consider incredibly basic words.

It is actually incredibly frustrating for someone as loquacious as I am, having to stop halfway through a non-stop stream of talking to describe seemingly simple words, such as "procrastinate".
Often I just give up and go back to thinking to myself.

Yeah, this happens when I talk to certain people.

I try to make my choice of words matter, because some people take offense to the stupidest things, like saying "Yeah, my mom will let you come over" instead of "Yeah, you can come over" or "Yeah, everything's great, see you soon" some people rage.

I intentionally use enormous words sometimes, just to fuck with people.

Or I make up shit, and then make them feel stupid when they don't know what it means.

Never.

Actually, I like those moments. Since they don't know the words, I'll feel superior.
This. Because usually me and me friends are having a discussion which will turn into an argument (not serious though) so if I make a really intelligent, thought out comeback and they don't know what it means, I get to rub it in their face. :D

EDIT: 600 Posts! Wooooooo!

I don't do it consciously, unless I'm trying to explain something that I know the other person has limited knowledge about.

Nope, never. They almost always know what I am talking about, the only instance they wouldn't understand me is if I started talking about deep physics or medical related topics..but that's little to do with understanding words and more to do with not knowing the subject matter.

No , I would say them anyway, they usually get the meaning from the context(although i'm not one to use big words unless I'm 100% sure how to use them, i'm ashamed of my vocabulary)

All the time. Usually when people with no mathematical knowledge higher than GCSE want me to explain something with it's foundations in Degree level maths.

Well, it depends. Usually, whenever I use English with any people of the same nationality as me, they tend to not understand some words.

There have been rare occasions when I try to say something that I can't quite find the words for, but that happens rarely.

Seeing as I'm 15 years old, and an Estonian, it's hard for me to find someone on the same level as me. /egostroke

I never adjust my wording. If a friend doesn't understand something I said, they'll just ask what it meant.
