Perhaps a global destruction wont be as bad as people think. Even with nuclear weapons its very hard to take out an entire species on a planet there would be survivors. Though we most likely would know ourselves back to the stone age.

Oh, that's easy, in no particular order:
1. Strong AI. It's coming, and we sure as hell aren't ready to face the obvious repercussions. I don't mean this as some kind of Luddite, quite the opposite in fact, we need to look into the obvious problems that stem from creating a form of intelligence that outstrips us on every level and find solutions to them. Or we could turn the thing on, then ask it what we should do, which would save a lot of money, I guess. (I for one, welcome our new mechanical overlords)
2. Over-reliance on fossil fuels
3. Dogma surrounding Nuclear Energy
4. Organized Religion as a method of thought control
5. The economic situation in Africa
6. Unrepresentative representative democracies (can you honestly and tell me Cameron or Obama are representative of your interests? Can you say the same for your congressman or MP?)
7. Nationalism
8. Fucking Bankers! (and stockbrokers, and generally anyone who doesn't actually contribute towards the economy but still manages to have a salary several orders of magnitude higher than almost everyone else)
9. Domestic cats, or more accurately, domestic cat owners.
10. Bronies The Helvetica Scenario [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aY7XH2ulTEU]

Few things drive me nuts more than complaining, like the link that was provided in the original post, because that's usually what it is: Complaints.

While I agree with a lot of what it talks about, it breaks my rule that you should offer a solution to the problem. Take for example, #6 on the list, Overpopulation. All the article says is to fly to Mars. Literally. That's all it has to say about that. Not only is that a massive feat in of itself, but the time it'd take just to make a basic colony we'd be massively overpopulated. Many issues will have to go into consideration to prevent overpopulation, and many of them won't be liked. But we as a society, in both literal and figuratively speaking, screwed ourselves into oblivion.

Now we need to offer solutions to fix it, not just complain that it hasn't been fixed.

Actually there is only one problem which leads to every other one:

1. While the positive and negative human attributes are more or less in balance on a person to person basis, the negative attributes outweigh the positive by far in a macroscopic scale. Then suddenly the "I" is always more important than the "us".

Oh! Before I forget. As phrases like "was recognized as offical and real by the US." implicate the list is from an U.S. viewpoint, mentioning some genocides while not including the own one(s) seems a little bit hypocritical. The worst thing you can do about a past genocide is denying or ignoring it. The origins of my country murdered millions during the middle of the last century and nearly annihilated the Herero between 1904 and 1908. That's fact. So today we still deal with it and try to learn from it. It helps you realize the worth of life.

That list is gobbledygook. "Abuse"? Please. You may as well put "fear" or "negativity" on the list. Totally subjective concepts.

I also believe that terrorism doesn't exist. "Terrorist" is a word that was invented to describe an enemy combatant who is fighting for a different cause than you. It's a cheap and lazy method of dehumanising your enemy and justifying treating people as less than human. "War" was already on the list, why not just modify it to "conflict" and have done with it?

Anyway, here's my top 10.

1) Overpopulation
2) Immigration
3) Fossil fuel replacement
4) Revaluating the West's role as global father figure and disciplinarian
5) Social reform including desexualising youth culture, cracking down on drug abuse and organised crime
6) Promoting the secularisation of society
7) Curing or eradicating AIDs
8) Tackling corruption within capitalism
9) Education
10) Environmental issues

1-9)ignorance - it is a problem and it's solution would instantly solve every other problem. i am not talking about thought enforcement, or perfection of humans. I am saying that we should drop this media structure that succeeds on advertising and sensationalism. we should have media that informs and eduvates all through our lives. people can practice whatever religion they like but they should know what the beliefs of that religion entail. people can look at the facts of global warming and make their own decisions... they don't always have to be right but they need to be informed. no one cares the katy perry and charlize theron showed up to some awards show in the same dress, that fact will impact NOTHING EVER IN THE PAST PRESENT OR FUTURE! not reporting on the over consumption of fossil fuels and the lack of support for alternative energies will result in the collapse of almost all world economies and leave us without the comfort items we take for granted today, like electricity. THAT IMPACTS EVERYONE IN THE ENTIRE WORLD!

10)DDR dance pads for home consoles that don't stick to the floor well.

That's a bit of a bullsh*t list if you ask me...

I won't come up with ten but a top few would be...

1) overpopulation - simple, terrifying.
2) environmental degradation - same as 1)
3) the internet - ... same as 1 and 2... far too influential and regarded.
4) culture gap (i.e. backwards nations) - less simple, USA counts as one
5) ageing institutions - similar to culture gap, movements like democracy are becomming obsolete and ineffective
6) cultural degradation - like 4), some nations have peaked and are going back down towards inequality and extremism... see: USA, Australia, similar
I like your list better than Patty's.

I'm still a bit under a fluffy pink culture shock from visiting Pattyland and gaining insight into three of this world's main issues:

1) Selective perception with limited knowledge and understanding,

2) individuals with a computer, some internet, two cats and a comfy chair deciding to have understood human nature so well they think they can identify and solve all mankinds issues, even though the issues they address are a wee bit more complicated and demand some more thought on causality and

3) Top-ten lists

It's ludicrous. I wonder what was to be found at http://hubpages.com/hub/Our-Universe--A-Black-Hole - it must have been even more amazingly silly than Patty's list.

Ah, humans. We really are difficult to love at times, aren't we.

NO MORE WARS! NO MORE VIOLENCE! NO MORE KILLINGS - doesn't necessarily eradicate the issue of immigration, quite on the contrary. Fluffy pink wishful thinking is absolutely okay, but intermingled with tidbits of a political nature, they're toxic and hard to swallow.

A people gets the king it deserves, and we've lately fallen on hard times with our politicians, presidents and representatives. Still, it is our duty as animals with big brains to at least try and understand what's going on. Everything else is but throwing up words and a diarrhea of twinkle twinkle little stars.

OMGlod! So liberal and biased, claiming that war, greed and injustice are bad. Why can't they just leave us baby-eating capitalists alone to do our own thing, it's not like we hurt anyone? Also, why can't you put things that are easy to solve on the list? Preferably ones that don't involve much lifestyle change for me personally.
