I searched Mafia (Ctrl + F) and it's not even on the list! Heresy!

Plus, they have fucking Mario and Zelda at the top. I don't trust them already.

The Sands of Time should be higher.

Tetris above HL2?!

Assassins Creed is on the list but not AC2?

The original Splinter Cell is better than Pandora Tomorrow, although I guess it's on for the multiplayer and not singleplayer. Chaos Theory isn't high enough at all.

Luckily this has no impact on anything at all (because it's all wrong, terribly wrong!).
Tetris was much more influential than HL2, being one of the big introductory games. The list isn't just about quality. Probably why Pandora Tomorrow is on there, the single player is probably the weakest in the series, but it's multiplayer was fantastic. I can't think of any games that had such drastically different teams. Starcraft maybe, but that's an RTS not a stealth/shooter. Chaos Theory definitely earns its place on the list, Pandora....maybe.

If this is an influential list, then why is Counter Strike at around 100 when it was 2nd most online played game apart from starcraft and WoW. Also half-life original should of been higher, it started storys in games basically. I know that sounds very fan boyish but ahwell.

Oh yeah, I remember seeing this stupid list. Eh it's not bad, but could be a lot better still.

Also, OoT 20th, can't take this list seriously at all.

I don't know about this one. Legend Of Zelda, seriously?
It's okay, I guess although my fav games have taken a beating here.
I don't want to sound like a jerk but there are TOO MUCH Nintendo classics. Just because they were the first to try something, doesn't mean that they're better.
Still, there's a lot of Call Of Duty. I like mah Call Of Duty.
EDIT: And no fucking Indigo Prophecy. Hmmm.

Actually the list was pretty terrible. Some of those games are awful and were put in front of masterpieces. Like... Mario Picross or whatever? Why is that above Shadow of the Colossus and Left 4 Dead? That list just makes me angry. And why is Modern Warfare 2 ranked above Call of Duty? That is a lie if I ever heard one. Call of Duty was one of the best games ever created and is demon offspring aren't anywhere near as good (except for United Offensive).
That's weird, I found every COD better than the previous one.
I guess without the "one game per franchise" rule my list would look something like:
1. MW2
2. MW
3. COD2
4. COD

Not a bad list at all, one of the better ones that i've seen. I do think Pong and resident evil could of been a bit higher though, not because of what great games they are, but because they are both landmark titles.

Chaos Theory was always the sequel Pandora should of been - over Pandora it had vastly improved graphics; refinements of gameplay elements; a better and much more memorable story; superb co-op, etc.

Not to mention the knife <3

Already saw it. It's more or less bullshit. Some games are at vaguely appropriate positions, but it's mostly just wankery over Nintendo classics. Why should i care about those games? I didn't grow up on them, they don't mean much to me.

When you put Tetris in front of Eternal Darkness, you are no longer deemed worthy of playing games
Has Eternal Darkness made the same impact on both the gaming industry and modern culture itself that Tetris has? Is Eternal Darkness played and enjoyed by people of nearly all ages and nearly all walks of life? No? Than your opinion, quite frankly, is invalid.

Hell, Tetris isn't my favorite game either, but at least I can recognize that it truly is one of the greatest games ever made, if not THE greatest game ever made.

Why have 4 grand theft auto games in there?
And me not having played many Nintendo games I really dont get all the fuss around Zelba and Mario.

164. X-COM: UFO Defense (PC, 1993)

I think it's criminal that X-COM is ranked as low as it is, but at least it's on the list. Also: no Syndicate, no TIE Fighter (yes, X-Wing's there... but they clearly weren't following the one-game-from-each-series rule someone above mentioned they should have).

I would have preferred separate PC and console lists (that worked better in the 90s when they really were apples and oranges than it does today, I suppose, but there's plenty of 80s and 90s games on that top 200).

Fallout 1 at 117? No Quake 1? Half-Life 1 at 29?

A lot of strange question marks but otherwise a decent list.

I'm not suprised to see I've beaten a lot of them, but I don't think the original Zelda deserved to be number 1.

I kinda like the numbering and, yes, Mike Tyson Punch Out was huge. Not the first Mario game huge, but I remember news stories about it and people jabbering on about who they beat and how.

Interesting that Zelda was #1. That was the game that made me surrender my Commodore 64 and get an NES, and never look back.

I would love separate lists, at least separating out:
Consoles
PC
Arcade (even if a particular arcade game was ported).

That would be a hoot. Gorf, of course, would have to be within the top 20 Arcade games ever!

I'll tell you up front:

GI was giving Nintendo what we in the biz call a 'blow job'. There's not much else to say.
