William Shatner - Has Been (Seriously, this is a fantastic album)

Mr. Bungle - California (Not their best, but still pretty freaking awesome)

Refused - The EP Collection (Technically re-released in 2002, it had a completely different track listing than the original)

Deltron 3030 - Deltron 3030 (Amazing rap album)

Toss up: The Dillinger Escape Plan - Ire Works/Miss Machine

So many more amazing albums were released

Mastodon - Crack The Skye (brilliant prog metal from some truly great performers. Intriguing subject matter)

Biffy Clyro - Puzzle (One of my most played.)

Hybrid - I Choose Noise (likewise. Feels a bit like a movie soundtrack to quite an action packed and emotional movie.)

Spoon - Gimme Fiction (lovely folksy poetry. I Summon You is a personal fave)

Boards of Canada - The Campfire Headphase (ambient chill with just a hint of paranoia. a great album to relax to.)

1. Mezmerize/Hypnotize (I count them as one) - System of a down
2. Octavarium - Dream Theater
3. All Hope is Gone - Slipknot
4. Carnival of Rust - Poets of the Fall
5. Brave New World - Iron Maiden.

And some explaining. Mezmerize and Hypnotize are pretty much one double album thing and I cant make a choise between them, so they are both on top. Octavarium is a nice and complex album with a brilliant 24 minute finnishing track.

Slipknot fans may hate me now, but I just love All Hope is Gone. There aren't really any bad songs and they are placed perfectly on the album. My only nonmetal album is Carnival of Rust. I just love the lyrics and the riffs are kinda catchy. And well Iron Maiden has to be somewhere on the list.

I'll make my top 5 songs of the decade. Scratch that, this is my top 5 singles of the decade, so I can post a video for every song for you folks.

Home- Edward Sharpe and The Magnetic Zeros
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qb9jY8yAxgs

Need More Time- The Epoxies
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QSNLdZK4BgA

Poor and Wierd- The Briefs
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qZd2P0Isbis

I Am Robot- The Phenomenauts
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G_7giRt2v6w

Cloudy Times- River City Rebels
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3tLithbabuE

God this was a really tough list for me. This decade was while really shitty in terms of mainstream music (yeah yeah, broken record, everybody says that about every decade), on the underground level there was a lot of cool stuff happening. Punk got out of it's 90s California slump and gained its sexyness and androgyny back (nevermind that whole unfortunate radio punk thing, ack). Folk also has of late made a strong comeback.

Gyah I'm sorry folks I can't stop at five. It was a pretty good decade all in all.

Leeds United- Amanda Palmer
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i62UF7uROGU

and while we're on the subject of Mizz Palmer...

Girl Anachronism- Dresden Dolls
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sO5APfKnR50

I Like You So Much Better When You're Naked- Ida Maria
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VkVy2FeqIyc

Zero- Yeah Yeah Yeahs
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DxZGYGojPeE

Coma Girl- Joe Strummer and The Mescaleros
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x7YHHK9WReY

So yeah, the decade wasn't entirely bad in the mainstream music category. The Yeah Yeah Yeahs, The White Stripes, The Fratellis, a few more I can't think of. All good radio pop informed by punk in some way shape or form. Outside of that MCR put out an amazing album (yeah what), The Black Parade, and Muse put out some pretty epic stuff. All in all a better musical decade all around than the 90s. Grunge blew, 90s punk was weak and flaccid, and in general the pop music of the decade was uninspired.

In no particular order:

Strung Out - Blackhawks Over Los Angeles (2007)
Anti-Flag - A New Kind of Army (1999)
Red Hot Chili Peppers - Californication (1999)
Rise Against - Appeal to Reason (2008)
NOFX - The War on Errorism (2006)

Those of the ones I can think of for now, might just realise I missed on in a bit but I'll leave it as that now.
