I actually found the Anders-hosting-Justice angle to be a pretty brilliant move. It really helps justify Anders' shift from the freedom-loving hippie of Awakening to the revolutionary of DA2. I just don't get why they needed to switch voice actors when they tapped Greg Ellis do voice work on DA2 anyway. Adam Howden's portrayal of Anders is fine, but I like Ellis' take more.
I can't get over BioWare's insistence on making all the cool characters totally worthless.
Minsc, Edwin, HK47, Canderous. They're awful contributors to your group. In Baldur's Gate ALL of the NPC's are worthless and you are much better off just making your own group. Korgan and Edwin are the only ones who are good at their professions, but they fight intensely with other characters and always end up leaving or making other key characters leave. In KOTOR the only worthwhile characters are Jedi or Wookies. Everyone else is ridiculously under-powered. KOTOR I at least had some role for ranged and HK47 was TERRIBLE at ranged. Canderous was OK, but still you're much better off with Jedi. KOTOR II was even worse.
Anders: The moment I saw him in DA: The Awakening shaking his hands with a snappy one liner after barbequeing some darkspawn, I KNEW he was gonna be a great character Was pleased to see that he's just as great in DA 2.
Joker: Pretty self-explanatory I believe.
Fenris: Dark humor, check. Interesting personality, check. Awesome voice actor I immidiately recognized from Brothers in Arms, check.
Alistair: Again, awesome jokes = win in my book
Tie between Morrigan and "comedian"-Hawke (the purple comedian mask dialogue choices in DA 2): They seem like the exact same character more or less. (Perhaps a bit less spite though). Maybe that's just because I'm playing as a female mage though.
Play Awakening after you have played DA2, it shows that what happens with Anders is completely planned.
'I didn't do it.' - Anders.
'I shall see you hang for what you've done here, murderer!' - Rylock.
Turns out Anders will do it, and he is a murderer.
For my list, in no particular order:
Anders, for what I mentioned above. His whole arc is perfection.
Shale, because it is simply damn hilarious. There is absolutely nothing that isn't lovable about everyone's favourite Golem.
Loghain, a completely believable patriot.
He was right too, as it turns out. The betrayal was justified.
His cameo in Awakening is just great, especially for a King Cousland.
The Arishok, the best rival I have ever faced in any game ever. I wish I could have joined his side, because everything he says is totally logical and completely alien to our concieved culture. His dialogue is composed of some of the best writing in video games, as it just seems to be trenched so deeply in wisdom.
Legion, who has some of the best lines in the game. 'Metal detectors are inconvinient.' I love taking him on Tali's loyalty mission. May he return in ME3 unharmed.
Special mentions to Garrus, Tali, Mordin, Jack, HK47 and Nathaniel Howe.
