Im bored so i thought id start this thread

whats your opinion on the top 5 rifles ever designed?

mine:

1.AK-47
Cheap to make, accurate reliable easy to use clean and has been around for forever

2.M-16
Accurate Powerful Reliable and Easy to maintain
*EDIT* Yes I do know this gun was terrible when first issued in Vietnam but later variants improved its reliablity

3. M1 Garand
Probably the best semi auto rifle of WW2, Accurate, Powerful round but had a decent amountof recoil

4. Remington 700
A million variants of this gun that can do just about anything, from civilian hunting rifle to Military sniper rifle its accuracy makes it a great rifle

5. STG-44
Advanced for its time, the worlds first Assualt Rifle, but saw very little production because of Hitlers dislike of the look of the gun

Really? Really? REALLY?

Maybe the newer ones anyways...
In Vietnam they sucked until they actually told them to clean them, And the A2 and A3 are alot more reliable

You know, the plasma rifles are way better than those. This tall guy wearing sunglasses and a black trench coat told me about them. His voice was rather monotonous, though.

I disagree with the M-16 and STG-44. The M-16 had, and still has, a horrible track record. And as revolutionary as the design of the STG was, it just didn't see any service, really. It deserves a mention only as being the groundwork for the first assault rifles, as well as the inspiration for the AK-47.

This seems to be mostly Assault rifles and not a broad look on the topic

I would have to say some significant rifles are:

The short magazine lee enfield, it was pretty much the best bolt action rifle of WW2 and the weapon of choice for commonwealth forces in both WW1 and WW2 and even Korea.

The ferguson rifle, a rifle design forty years before the Napoleonic war, that could fire four times further than a musket, fire 6-10 rounds a min and be fired lying down. In a time when 2 volleys a min was acceptable and 3 was considered good. Sure it was expensive and less reliable but it is amazing how advanced it is for the time.

Of course the AK47 and the Winchester 1873

Their all rifles just not the same type

the Ak M-16 and STG-44 are all assault rifles

The R700 is a Bolt Action Rifle

and the M1 Garand is a Semi Auto Rifle

1. Mosin Nagant anything, indestructable doesn't begin to describe it.
2. AK47, Buy today and you'll get the tool kit absolutely free of charge! A big ass hammer, punch and grinder! The only tools you'll ever need.
3. 10/22. Not joking in the least, best small caliber rifle ever built.

Those are the only three that stay on my list all the time.

Oh, and for shits and giggles, or to amuse anyone who knows about them, the sa80

3. Barrett REC7 (M468)

4. Heckler and Kotch G36

5. QBZ-95

(Note: When you say "rifles" to me assault rifles are included)

Oh please, people. The best civilian rifle you can get is the Ruger Mini-14. Semi-automatic, uses actual assault rifle rounds, durable, and has very little recoil for what it's chambered for. Fully legal everywhere (As far as I know), even in the gunless wastes of California.
