Thought this would be interesting. My friend has a lot of rock, metal, and punk music on his iPod and yet three of his top 5 most listened to songs were J-pop. Shows a bit of insight into people's likes. I know that these aren't the most accurate, especially if you have a recent song on your MP3 player that you like, but it's an experiment.

MCR - Welcome to the Black Parade (165)
30 Seconds to Mars - This is War (161)
Blind Guardian - Wheel of Time (107)
Three Days Grace - Animal I Have Become (96)
Linkin Park - Shadow of the Day (88)

EDIT: Perfect example. My most favourite song of all time is The Winespring Reel by Robert Berry, but it's a recent addition so I've only listened to it 25 times.

Bleh, I can't see what my most played is on my MP3, but on my PC [that got fixed a few months ago, so the count won't be too high] the top 5 are:

Bring Me The Horizon: It Never Ends(725)
Architects: Day In Day Out(584)
While She Sleeps: My Conscience, Your Freedom(535)
Destroy Rebuild Until God Shows: My Swagger Has A First Name(487)
The Elijah: Since I Was Born...(445)

So yuhh.

Ain't No Rest for the Wicked by Cage the Elephant - 69
Norwegian Wood (This Bird Has Flown) by The Beatles - 67
Elanor Rigby by The Beatles - 40
Atlas by Battles - 36
Pjanoo by Eric Prydz - 33

I feel ashamed for some reason...

I would have thought that I'd listen to Norwegian Wood more, it's my absolute favorite song for whatever reason. Ain't No Rest for the Wicked got me an idea for a story, though, so whatever.

I definitely listened to those songs way more than it says. Does it only count a play if you play it from beginning to end, or how many times you repeat it?

Dimmu Borgir - Gateways
Finntroll - Solsagan
Dimmu Borgir - Endings and Continuations
Emperor - I Am the Black Wizards
Tyr - Sinklars Visa

Don't have numbers though, mine doesn't display a count.
Most of these are estimates if you don't have an iPod.

I don't have none of your kids's iPod shuffles, and I listen to albums, the way God and Led Zeppelin and Pink Floyd intended! Now get the hell off my lawn!

(Most-listened albums: Close to the Edge by Yes, Foxtrot by Genesis, Tarkus by Emerson, Lake & Palmer, Meddle by Pink Floyd, Electric Ladyland by The Jimi Hendrix Experience.)

Because I spam each new album I get, it would probably be Help is On the Way, Make it Stop (September's Children), Satellite, Wait for Me and This is Letting Go, all off Rise Against's Endgame

I don't believe that "most played" is a field that the Windows Media Player actually keeps track of, and anyways I'm very much wired as an album sort of fellow - I don't typically flit between individual songs so much as entire albums and musical genres.

Last.fm says:

1. Oddjobs - Stone Cold (56 times)
2. Cubbiebear - Fake Limps (53 times)
3. Blue Sky Black Death - The Era When We Sang (48 times)
4. Eyedea & Abilities - This Story (47 times)
5. Eyedea & Abilities - By The Throat (47 times)

I do love those songs, but it's pretty inaccurate. My Last.fm won't scrobble my iPhone which I use as my MP3 nearly every day, and I haven't had Last.fm that long. I can probably guess which songs would be my most played of all time, as there are some that I listened to on repeat every day for years, I still listen to them today. But meh, those 5 are a pretty accurate description of what I've listened to most on this PC the past year or so.

I can't check my listen count on my mp3 player, so I'll take the listens from last.fm instead. This is since 2008, mind you. [small]The numbers are still pretty low, though..[/small]

Shako-Pani - "ひだガレッガ" (67)

Earth - "Ouroboros is Broken" (63)

Sunn O))) - "Orthodox Caveman" (40)

Mayumi Kojima - "Poltergeist" (39)

momo-i - "Midori no Hidamari" (38)

[sub]oh god the top five for the last three and six months are both K-ON! songs all the way... this explains why I've been hallucinating.[/sub]
