Simply because it's impossible for me to post a "Top 10 Song of All Time" for me, I'm going to give you my "Top 10 Songs of This Exact Moment (March 18, 2010 at 3:55 p.m. [small](Though that time will most likely change before I finish this list)[/small])

Anyways, here's the most accurate I can give you (in no particular order):

My Hero (Acoustic)-Foo Fighters: Well, I had to include some Foo Fighters song on here, because that's just who I am. I chose this because it's my favorite at this exact moment. (And, incidentally, I've just noticed that I have 29 Foo songs on my iTunes: the exact amount it takes to fill up the entire page! I should have more, but now I kind of don't want to because that's so cool!)

Needle In The Hay-Elliott Smith: Yes, I did watch "The Royal Tenenbaums" this week, but that is completely unrelated. Seriously, though, a damn fine acoustic song.

Everyone-Van Morrison: Again, completely unrelated to my watching of "The Royal Tenenbaums" on Tuesday. Either way, this tune always makes me so happy; it's very upbeat and lively.

Buddy Holly-Weezer: This one's due to watching some Ferret video a couple of minutes ago that went to the tune of this. I like the song, but I doubt it would've been in my top 10 otherwise, just to give you an idea of how easily changed my favorite songs are.

Touch Me-The Doors: Come on, it's the freaking Doors! This is rarely my favorite song of theirs, but it's always up there, and today it reached number 1!

An Honest Mistake-The Bravery: It's catchy, and today, it makes my top 10!

Houses of the Holy-Led Zeppelin: That riff is so freaking catchy that this song makes it into my top 10.

Well, I'm kind of done now. I guess I underestimated how difficult this would be. So, uh, there's 7. I might come back and fill out the rest later, although then I might need to start over. Sorry, but that's honestly the best I can do for now.

Wow. Is six a new record?
Pardon?

I'm not sure what you're asking me.
On the first page of this thread, you posted the same answer six times. I think it was six.

Ontopic:
My favorites are:
1. Soilwork - The Analyst. Just listen to it and love it.
2. In Flames feat. Lisa Miskovsky - Dead End. The singing and riffs blend sooo good together.
3. Wolfmother - Joker and the Thief. I don't know why, maybe because it's awesome.
4. Children of Bodom - She is Beautiful (Andrew W.K. cover). Just awesome.
5. Scar Symmetry - Timewave Zero. Listen to it, love it and then love it even more.
6. Scar Symmetry - Dreaming 24/7.
7. Nuclear Blast Allstars (Singer: Anders Friden from In Flames) - Dysfunctional Hours. Youtube it.
8. Killswitch Engage - My Curse. You know how awesome it is.
9. Soilwork - Figure Number Five. Just macho.
10. Rick Astley - Never Gonna Give You Up. Seriously, I mean it!

1.Time by Pink Floyd. The guitar solo gives me chills everytime - without a doubt the best guitar solo I've ever heard (and I listen to guys like Malmsteen and Gilbert), with some extremely profound and meaningful lyrics to boot.

2.Nowhere Man by The Beatles. I'm one of the few people who thinks that Rubber Soul is one of the best Beatles albums, and this is my favourite track off of it. It's John Lennon at his surreal best, and the melody is just irresistable.

3.The Card Cheat by The Clash. London Calling is one of the best albums I've ever heard, and this is arguably my favourite song off of that album. The combination of some fantastic lyrics and an amazing melody just make for one hell of an experience.

4.Teen Age Riot by Sonic Youth. I love Sonic Youth (they make up half my screenname), and this was the song that introduced me to them. Has an incredible energy to it (thank you, Steve Shelley), and the guitar in this song is fantastic.

5.Broken Face by The Pixies. Of all the Pixie songs I could pick, I just had to go with this one - I feel it best encompasses everything the Pixies are about: the bizarre lyrics, the catchy melodies that come out of nowhere, Frank Black's unique vocals - this one has it all.

6.No Surprises by Radiohead. What can I say - this is one of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard. I simply never get tired of it.

7.Heart Shaped Box by Nirvana. Once again, there's little that needs to be said - Kurt Cobain had an incredible knack for writing really intense, awesome music; Heart Shaped Box combines that raw energy that characterized their music (particularly In Utero), while at the same time featuring some of the best lyrics Cobain ever wrote (they actually make sense... kinda)

8.Sometimes by My Bloody Valentine. The best song from one of the best albums of the 90s - it's incredible how such a simple chord progression coupled together with a wall of distortion can make for such a hauntingly beautiful song.

9.Two-Headed Boy Pt.2 by Neutral Milk Hotel. "God is a place you will wait for the rest of your life" - "whoa" was my response after hearing that line. The fact that profound lyrics such as those are coupled together with an incredible acoustic-driven melody is reason enough for this song to be here.

10.What Is and What Should Never Be by Led Zeppelin. There are plenty of other songs I could put in the last spot, but I have to give it to Zeppelin. When it comes to rocking the fuck out, nobody does it better. I particularly love how this song starts out really calm and then explodes into that AWESOME chorus.

Shit, so I did.

I think The Escapist is broken again, I've seen that happen to a few people.
Maybe, it almost happened to me because of a damn slow connection to the Escapist today too- Luckily, my patience saved me.

I don't want to post more than one song from any band, and I don't want to post a lot of songs, so I'll just post a top song from each 5-year period of the past 50 years. Some of these aren't
my favourites, just songs that I felt deserved to be on the list. In chronological order:

Louie, Louie - Richard Berry
Johnny B. Goode - Chuck Berry
You Really Got Me - The Kinks
Hey Jude - The Beatles
Stairway to Heaven - Led Zeppelin
Another Brick in the Wall, Part 2 - Pink Floyd
Another One Bites the Dust - Queen
Can't Touch This - M.C. Hammer
Smells Like Teen Spirit - Nirvana
The Sickness - Disturbed
Links 2, 3, 4 - Rammstein
Gone Guru - Lifeseeker

Footnote: I don't consider "Another One Bites the Dust" to be Queen's best song, but the 5-year format means some of Queen's better songs were edged out by Pink Floyd or Led Zeppelin. There are plenty of songs on my list from before 1955, but this is a top 10 list.
If I listed my favourite songs, the list would be different, but the OP asked for "10 greatest songs ever", and I won't be so arrogant as to assume that list is the same as my top 10 favourite songs.

I'll give it a try. Here's my top ten songs that I can actaully remember at this time.

The Doors- Crystal Ship
Just for that I love you.

I honestly can't do it. There is no way to pick, because music is my entire life and I find so many songs that I adore. Today's list I can do though. In no order:

Also, a special mention for Zakk Wylde and Slash's guitar duel on Voodoo Chile, which has been in my head all day:

Stabbing Westward- Waking Up Beside You
System of a Down- Mind
The Faint- Worked Up So Sexual
DJ Shadow- Organ Donor or Right Thing
Datsik- Got My Swagger Back
Chemical Brothers- Not Another Drugstore Remix
Paula Abdul- Opposites Attract (a childhood fav)
Atari Teenage Riot- Anything by them not on 60 second Wipeout LP
Satbbing Westward- On Your Way Down

I'm missing a ton of songs of love but these were the first that came to mind and I tried to represent all the genres I love.
Ah, The Doors, that's a band who no one remembers anymore it would seem.

I guess that it was their end, my only friend.
Not true. I remember them. This guy came to me in a dream, and I said, "Who are you?" and he said, "I'm Jim Morrison. I'm a dead rock star." The next day, I went out and bought the Greatest Hits album by the Doors, and Crystal Ship was my favourite, but they're all good. I also particularly like People Are Strange :p

How the hell can you people do this?

It's completely impossible for me.
I'm with you on this.

It's been fun looking at these lists, but I could never for the life of me narrow my list down to ten. Maybe like, 100. And even that would be agonizing.
