If in 100 years, the internet hasn't graduated into a form of hivemind (with an opt-out clause, of course), we're doing it wrong.

If forums, as they currently exist, exist at all in 100 years, we're REALLY doing it wrong.

This is what all the AI alarmists misunderstand. You have to program a program to develop self-awareness.

Why did you have to ruin my little scenario with the facts? It makes for an interesting fantasy...like in I, Robot...that one robot was programmed to have dreams, emotions, etc. Anyways, to counteract your fact (and keep my point alive of that eventually becoming the matrix), I will say that some lonely person could, theoretically, program the system to have emotions, logic, etc and it would then be self-aware and become the Matrix. I believe that's checkmate friend. Good playing with you.
BTW, I'm not an AI alarmist...especially considering that, worse case scenario, it would simply take an EMP or a magnets to "kill" the threat.

OMG, for some reason that caught me by surprised and made me laugh so hard. I thought it was the person who brought up the fact. Well, uh, good for you? I dunno...what's the proper response to that? I know Tae Kwon Do, some Army Combatives, and (I wouldn't really refer to this as a discipline) have been in a few backyard wrestling matches were things were BARELY staged. By BARELY staged, I mean that the punches, kicks, blood, thumbtacks, barbed wire, steel chair, and fire were all real...don't know if that counts for anything though...other than a concussion and (maybe?) some brain damage...oh, and 2 little scars on my forehead.
