I really wish Bioware would just do what they want to do, and not shoe-horn in conventional MMO aspects. If it fits in with the game then fine, but if it doesn't don't shove it in. However this being an MMO they'll have to try and get everyone they can, so can't say I'm surprised... just sad.

Why are you making the assumption that this isn't what they wanted? There's never been an indication they wanted to do anything different..

I'm not really liking the TOR system so far. It's not really innovating as they keep saying, and from the videos it seems that every shot and attack is one hit kill like some FPS, so why be anything other than Imperial agent since they can cloak and snipe? Sigh.

Jedi Wizard?

Fuck, my childhood just died.
I'm with you on this one, I just don't understand why they used that word.

Sadface.

They have plenty of other class names they can do. Why Wizard and Sorcerer? KOTOR II (I know that wasn't made by BioWare, but still) had Jedi Master and Sith Lord class that you'd get for playing as a consular by getting to a certain point. Why couldn't they use that

Exactly. Bioware want to make money. Thats what they want. By playing it safe, they are ensuring that they do. Everyone is too busy copying WoW to put innovation into their MMO's. We are not going to see innovation in MMO's until WoW2 or whatever the BlizzMMo will be because they are the only company who can afford to do it (as they won't need to compete with WoW)

This is the main reason I am looking foward to GW2 more then TOR. (though still cool I like advance classes.)

All I know is that I'm happy to see this shit.

Even if it's a WoW clone, it's a SW WoW clone, which means it's already an improvement.

I wonder what the play difficulty will be with the Inquisitor. More specifically, the Assassin.

Everyone's already said it, but yeah, Jedi Wizard. Makes me think of a combination of Luke Skywalker and Harry Potter.

Yes... I expected this. A friend of mine is extremely amped up for ToR because he thinks it is going to be different than MMOs, specifically WoW. To which I tried to explain to him it wont be, not because of Bioware, but because inevitably the players will incorporate the same actions and mentalities existent in current MMOs into ToR as soon as humanly possible.

This is a perfect example of how that happens by players pigeonholing the class structure into the existing MMO archtypes of Tank, ranged DPS, Melee DPS, Healer, Crowd control.

I cant wait till opening day when you see ToR guilds that have been recruiting for over a year who already have had a application and filtering process, then once they are unleashed upon the game, they find each other, form up, and do not go anywhere or do anything but grind together until they have capped out and start trying to work the end game content.

It does boggle my mind to think of a game that is supposed to be an adventure, being "played" so mechanically and devoid of anything that might be mistaken for fun.
Remind me how you can have a successful RPG / MMO without those roles. You just can't, or at least, if you don't have them, you can't expect to have any sort of challenging end game content. MMO's are about killing things to show how big your e-peen is, and you can't do that with a bunch of classes that fill no roles.

Alright the names are stupid. Jedi Wizard will never get old for me though hahaha.

But seems like people are just trying to compare this to WoW for the sake of doin so. Ill wait till the game comes out to pass judgement, but this isn't a good start cause ill never take the classes seriously.

Jedi Wizard HAHAHAHA

Explain to me how they are copying WOW with these classes? Most of these classes seem based on classes that Bioware laid out in Knights of the Old Republic to me, before WOW came out I might add.

Thats a good point. Its just when they announced the game and were questioned on the aspects, they basically said "Of course it'll have crafting/guilds/DPS/Tanks/Healers/ect. Its an MMO!"

They made it sound like instead of implementing things that fit the universe, they're putting in a lot of things just because people expect it from an MMO, not because it makes sense in the story. If all those things do make sense and they planned it all out, then awesome. If not, then I worry.

This shows the point of my post exactly.

And No.. Killing things to stroke ones ego is NOT what MMORPGs are about, That is what games like WoW have convinced people MMOs are supposed to be about. Ask the people who are still pissed over what occurred to SW:Galaxies if that was their motivation to partake in MMOs.

To assume you cannot have an MMO without archtypes is incredibly short sighted and unimaginative. I can think of several ways to pull off an MMO without a single class.

Now, Keep in mind, I am not saying the class thing for ToR is a bad thing. Not at all. The point is to show what will happen once the game begins. People WILL behave the same way and import WoW logic to it. As well as how naive some of the people who have abandoned MMOs are looking to ToR as MMO salvation because they have hope for an MMO to exist that doesn't play that way. These are the people who liken the word "Role" In RPG to that of being an actor and a valuable part of the world and their persona is just important as their class/gear/stats. Not the definition of "role" as in fulfilling jobs and duties and being a faceless insignificant class that Wow has convinced people is the only way an MMO can exist.
