That's positively mind-boggling.

It skyrocketed in the last couple hours. They didn't quite reach their last stretch goal (unless some really generous people hit PayPal at the last second), but still... wow.

They even suckered some money out of me (I don't know how they got me to buy the $125 oddity collector, but dangit, they did).

Anyhow, now that we know how much money they have, how excited are you for the game?

I kicked in $96 myself. Even though it didn't reach the last stretch goal I am still incredibly excited by the concept of a spiritual successor to Planescape: Torment and I hope that inXile can deliver on both Tides of Numenera and Wasteland 2. At least I only have to wait a few more months to play Wasteland.

Excited enough that I spent enough money to ensure myself a collector's edition and alpha/beta access.

I wouldn't be surprised if they put up the whole slackerbacker option once they solidify an official website (I'm assuming they'll be moving off tumblr), and it does reach the 4.5 . I kept seeing people saying WITH paypal it was at 4.3 something already.

PATRICKROTHFUSS!

I can't help myself. :(

Soon... soon...

I really hope they hit the 4.5 million with slackerbacker. I really wanted a customizable or reflective stronghold.

4.3 with paypal is great. Those who have been following the kickstarter know of the 200K that Brian and Steve pledged to match 10% of a specific level. That money is mostly going towards compensating for any pledges that could not be fulfilled. Maybe if their total loss is less then 200K, they can chip that in towards the final stretch.

I funded it... then my bank swapped over to some other place (First National, I think) and the card I was using to pay was cancelled. At 4 PM Eastern today. I'm PISSED because I wanted this game.

No fear! You can still pre-order the game once they get the Paypal page reset!

Very happy to see games like this receiving so much support. And there are a LOT of old-school/traditional-style RPGs on the horizon for the next couple of years; Wasteland 2, Underrail, Project Eternity, Torment: ToN, Conquistador, Lords of Xulima, Chaos Chronicles, Dead State, Blackguards, Divinity: Original Sin, Grimoire, Age Of Decadence, Might & Magic X, Legends Of Eisenwald, Shadowrun Returns, What Remains, Legend Of Grimrock 2, Tangut Prophecy, Barkley 2...there's just SO MANY and in a genre that was so dead for so long, it really is shocking.

It's great but sadly I can't support them all. I've only managed Shadowrun and Numenera. I might slack back Project Eternity but Torment sorta burnt my spare cash for the next 3 months.

Pretty incredible that that's barely half the budget of a modern AAA title. And yet it's going to be much more impressive and content-rich.

Well they aren't spending it all on voice actors and High Polygon count models. Instead they are focusing on actual story and setting to progress the plot instead of "polygons in the millions to express emotions" as Quantum Dream would have us believe.

Kickstarter gives you a week to sort it out.

Yeah, and they won't spend a dime on advertisement or DRM, lesson for publishers or what?

From a Chris Avellone interview

One of the designers was talking about one of the areas for Torment and it's basically this big living dungeon that communities live in, and also monsters, and depending on what you feed the dungeon it opens up new portals to other dimensions and it moves around. If anyone attempts to ever quantify the dungeon, and say 'I'm going to try and measure how big it is' or what intelligence level it is they're mysteriously destroyed.
I hope this makes it into the game. It sounds utterly awesome, this is the first time I've been completely excited for this game. Now I can't wait

Sounds like the Bloom:

They go into slightly more detail about it here:

Trying to avoid the hype. Release date 2014? What reason do I have to get excited a year in advance? I have a truckload of stuff to take care of before then and my thoughts are better dedicated to that.

Nobody's pushing me a millimeter above "cautiously optimistic".

I kicked in $25 I think, the lowest tier for a digital download if they succeed in making it. I did the same for "Wasteland 2" as much as I wish otherwise I'm on social security and that's actually a good chunk of money for me
to put into a gamble since it's in excess of what I committ to gaming which is really the only form of entertainment I still allow myself for the most part, having given up most other things I was once into. Higher donator perks are nice for these projects (if they ever finish them) but will probably never be for me.

That said, Kickstarter is a gamble, I tend to trust the guys making this project, but things can always happen, and there is no guarantee this game will ever be made. I showed my support of the idea at this point. I won't get hyped until the game nears completion and release, and that will also depend on how the final product is looking.

I have noticed some contridictory information about this game. Some of the news I've received from Kickstarter has told me to "expect deliver" for Torment in December of this year, which has in the past caused me to mention that release date as odd as it sounds. For a while I was thinking they already had a lot of work done on it despite what they mentioned. Honestly 2014 sounds more reasonable, but I seem to remember an early 2015 date from somewhere.

Having picked up Defiance (which I am kind of disappointed with), and Bioshock: Infinite, oddly enough most of my big game desires for this game are met. "Neverwinter" will probably be a decent time waster, but it's release date is unknown and I've heard somewhere that it's also going to be pushed up until 2014 which is why I stopped talking about it, this despite the open beta starting on the 30th. That kind of leaves a bunch of "maybe" titles from Kickstarter, Elder Scrolls Online, Wildstar, etc... I mean sure they claim Grimoire will be out in May and Shadowrun in June, but with these titles I'm not getting hyped until they are in hand since by definition they could change. I mean tomorrow Shadowrun could die and never see public release after all for example.

I'm glad that the new "Mid Tier" Development is having so much success... now it just needs to validate its existence by actually releasing the quality products it promises.

Torment is one of the best games ever made. If you argue against that statement, you have already lost. So yes, I'm enthusiastic to see more. I'm happy to see inXile get enough cash to put their hearts into it. They've certainly roped in the talent: Chris Avellone, Patrick Rothfuss, etc. Now I just hope the game gets made.
