It's over. It's officially Shogun 2....

http://shoguntotalwar.yuku.com/topic/71673

Personal opinion: http://www.nooooooooooooooo.com/

Updated personal opinion: I refuse to believe this is real until the game actually comes out!

-------------------------------------------------------

http://www.totalwar.com/

Basically, the hourglass is counting back from 2010 and where it finishes is presumably the era where the next TW is set. Where do you think it will end up?

I personally think it'll be Rome 2.

Also, to add some more discussion value, what do you want to see in the next part of the series?

Update: It's at 1777 now.

Update 2: 1769

Update 3: 1751

Update 4: 1744

Update 5: 1730

Update 6: 1708

Update 7: 1682

Update 8: 1677

Update 9: 1638

Update 10: 1602

Update 11: 1591

Update 12: 1545

-------------------------------------------------------

It's been stated by a CA staff member that the countdown does not end at zero.

This doesn't seem to hold much meaning. I think they just said this because when you "access the flash object directly"(whatever that means) the timer counts all the way down to zero.

-------------------------------------------------------

About that Turkish website that claims it's Shogun 2:

"Guys, speculate to your hearts content but please do not attempt to derail this thread by posting links to what is clearly fictitious and unsubstantiated information, I will not be giving out any more warnings on this point.

Anyone who posts such information or links to it from this moment on will receive 1 day bans.

Thank you."

A quote from an admin on the TW forums( http://shoguntotalwar.yuku.com/topic/71479/t/It-s-the-final-countdown.html?page=32 ).

-------------------------------------------------------

A riddle CA gave the fans on the official forums:

"In Spring it roams not
Maybe eastern sun rises
Nor will it show guns"

Note: Yes, this is a haiku.

-------------------------------------------------------

I'm trying to keep the OP up-to-date with the events, so please tell me if I'm missing something important.

I think it'll go to the American Civil war era, perhaps in the middle of that.

From 1815-1900 perhaps?

I'd love to see the Boer war and the Mexican American war and all that in a game.
It's already at 1824 and it seems like only a fraction of the sand has gone through so far.

Ah dagnabbit.

I was hoping for that. Ah well, I hope they do something they haven't done yet.

Because I would be a bit annoyed if they just did Rome again.
I'd love it. Rome was my favorite. I'd just want them to extend the map to India or even China and include all of northern Europe and down to about the middle of Africa and include all the things they've improved since Rome came out and I'd be happy.

Edit: Why is it that everytime I make a thread the Escapist decides to fuck up and become almost unusable?!?

One of the developers mentioned that:-
"The Creative Assembly will unveil the next title in its strategy series which ?eschews the gunpowder weaponry of recent Total War titles and gets back to basics".

Personally I'm still holding out for a Asian themed one, maybe incorporating China, Japan, Mongolia, India. Plenty of history and battles flowing around those areas, I guess they're just not as well know as European history.

Hmmmm interesting, would love to see where they go next. But they won't sell me on another one of their games until they up the AI in the game. Their AI is abysmal.

I was kind hoping they'd do the Russian Civil War. It's such an important event in history, and it spanned the largest country on Earth and had about 30 different sides.

Ah well.

They just spend all their time and money in creating an engine capable of showing gunfire (empire/napoleon) so I would think that something firearms based, maybe American/English Civil War?

I would like Rome 2 but logic seems to say the company will use the game engine they just spend years developing

I'm certainly with you on this one.

What is it counting down in?

Hours? Half hours? Days?

Knowing this would allow us to make an educated guess instead of what we really want.

Personally, I'm hoping for Rome 2.
Um, years? You'd just have to click the link and you would've known.

Right now it's at 1824 by the way.

It might be cool if they went with the ancient civilizations of the South Americas. I don't know my history too well, but I'm supposing epic battles took place in those places as well, right? Maybe in the late-game the Conquistadors would arrive as a game-changing event.

Now that sounds like a pretty good idea. I really like it. I'd still prefer Rome II or Medieval III though.
