Yeah, not sure how to react to this. On the one hand it seems pretty ridiculous and can see the implications of this legislation being picked up by other towns and cities if it seen as successful. On the other hand, I live on a completely different continent so it doesn't effect me. I'll just go with a non-committal "hmmmm..."

Seriously its 9, go home.
Maybe but you should still have the right to be out at that time.
My town has the same law, but its midnight. If you are out past midnight and are underage you get a ticket, or get dragged home or to the station by the police, your choice.
That just seems stupid IMO and a waste of everyone's time.

Honestly, I'm not entirely against this.

Seriously, there are places you just don't go past 9pm because of all the little shits hanging around in groups, heckling and intimidating people. Stand up to them and get stabbed, take their shit and possibly get mugged.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oH4Yq1d5W40

Seriously, I walked past one the other night and they threw a can at me. There was a bin two feet from them, they didn't know me from Adam, I was minding my business, talking with a friend, and then straight into my chest. There were eight of the little shits as well.

So you know what?

Take their rights away, they don't fucking deserve them. I cannot think of a decent reason why any person under 16 who isn't a hoodie-wearing tracksuit entombed git who would be in a large group of people past 9 o'clock.

I am aware of the slippery slope of taking rights away, I am usually a strong believer of liberalism, but I am just getting so sick and tired of defending these people's rights in debates with friends when I am so sick and tired of them, and having no power to do anything. Because if I chase them with a bat, I ruin my life, and they just don't give a shit.

The dispersal thing doesn't make sense, but I kinda see the 9pm for 16 and under thing. I know that the burb around me have/had a 10ish curfew, this really doesn't bother me you don't need to be out that late at that age.

Wait, so it is illegal to be anywhere without a parent/responsible adult, but they're allowed to order groups of two or more people to disperse regardless of age?

I smell shenanigans.
Did someone say shenanigans?

You're talking about Shenanigans right?
I wasn't talking about that right Meow.

OT: If this is enforced heavily you should get groups of people to dress exactly alike and stand in "groups of two or more" and when the Cops disperse you, have another group waiting. Then once they disperse them have the first group come around again. If you didn't want to do that, have a group of people stand each with a few feet between them, then once the cops come tell them you are not a group. That would be pretty funny.

basically this, while I have never had anything thrown at me specifically, in my town anyone under 16 and out at night in a group is most likely vandalizing something inducing my dad's car (twice)or looking to harass anyone who walks by and if you say anything they go "nener nener if you touch me I call the cops" so yes teenagers are frequently not trustworthy and there need to be more laws too keep the little shits under control.

All I can really say is "AHAHAHAHA, SUCKS TO BE YOU GUYS."
But hey, if the kids have a problem with it it's their right to protest, which I'd recommend they do.

What, people are mad about a curfew?

Yeah, 9 is a little on the early side, but what's the big fuss about? And it sounds like you guys have a high spoiled little shit ration over there, so win win.

at 16? I was at friends houses till 10, and then I walked home. I don't see why that's a big deal especially during the weekend or summer.

So a few incidents with a group of dickheads means you should take away everyone else's right to be outside. That takes total sense.

I mean holy fuck, back when I did Hockey or Rugby i'd be walking home with all my equipment after 9PM and I was under 16 at the time. Hell, I even lived in an area where stabbings and muggings aren't just common, they're fucking accepted by everyone living there and I still say the rights are more important. The police have the power to stop younger people hanging out anyway, this just applies a blanket ban on everyone regardless of how they're acting.

I don't completely understand the dispersal of people thing but the curfew sounds like a good idea. My home town is full the little beggers causing trouble at night. You can have your civil liberties back when you act civil.

Curfew on-base is 10 pm. I don't see any reason to be out past 9, though.

*Thanks back*

You know how many times I was out and about after 9 when I was 16? Every friggin day.

Now how many time I caused trouble? Never. Completely clean record and never harmed a fly.

Might have done one or two illegal things but never anything that endangered someone else...

OT: Knee jerk reaction to Britains crime rate, which apparently surpassed even the US in recent years.

Fucking stupid, in all probability everyone will ignore it and it's scary when you think the government is now trying to dictate when you can leave your house under completely normal circumstances.
Until you're 18, your "rights" are limited because you're a minor. I daresay you have very little actual rights as a minor.

People have never heard of curfew?

16 is still a child. Go home.

State of Illinois Curfew Law:
It is unlawful for a person less than 17 years of age to be present at or upon any public assembly, building, place, street or highway at the following times unless accompanied and supervised by a parent, legal guardian, or other responsible companion at least 18 years of age approved by a parent or legal guardian or unless engaged in a business or occupation which the laws of the state authorize a person less than 17 years of age to perform:

1. Between 12:01 a.m. and 6:00 a.m. Saturday;
2. Between 12:01 a.m. and 6:00 a.m. Sunday; and
3. Between 11:00 p.m. on Sunday to Thursday, inclusive, and 6:00 a.m. on the following day.

3 hour difference, big whoop.

Besides, they aren't arresting or fining anyone, they are just being made to leave the places they shouldn't be in.
"Failure to comply could lead to up to three months imprisonment and/or a fine of up to £2,500."

From the article. So yeah, they are fining and jailing people.
