Do many people do this? Im finding a real hole in my pocket lately since theres so many titles out and coming out that I want.

I took my copy of gears 2 down to the local EB and he was going to give me $25 AUD. It just seems silly to me (when I payed $100 for it a few weeks ago) or does it work out much better in the long run. Because every 4 games I get I get one free.. But I wont ever get to play them again if I get bored..

I never trade in games to be honest. Still have tons of old games that I don't play anymore. Whenever I think about trading one in that little voice comes back and says "But I might want to play it again sometime"

You could get more if you sell it online. Charge a couple dollars less that what they are.

A lot of people do this, but you never get the money that it's worth out of it. You'd be much better off selling them to friends for half-off original price, or selling them on ebay. Watch the Zero Originality movies if you want a full explanation on the evils of GameStop-like companies.

It's not really worth it.
Considering how little money you get from it, you'd be happier overall just keeping hold of your old games. Years later, you'll feel all nostalgic and want to play them again.

A lot of people do it, and the money you get back can really add up at gamestop and it' brothers if you wait for the right time. certain promotions happen where if you trade in X number of games you get more cash (usually either a percentage of the total or a flat 10 bucks), plus the gameinformer card can add more to that bringing the total pretty high, but you'd probably get a better deal selling it online (gamestop makes money hand over fist buying these games and selling used, because they didn't have to purchase from the publisher at all)

I do all the time, I usually get store credit and pick me up a couple of used games. I will only buy a new game if its one I really have to have like Fable 2. I cant afford to buy new games all the time.

I've traded in games a few times to the local Game Stop, but never will I do it again. They give you crap compared to what you payed for them. I'll usually hang on to them or give them to a buddy.

Nope. I don't do that because you make so little money you might as well not do it.
I also try avoid buying used games since I want to give my money to developers for their hard work not gamestop for their prepackaging ability.

EB will give you the lowest money back. look for local or small franchise shops if you want more money, but no i dont trade in my games. you never know when the value will skyrocket or when you will want to play it again

You'll feel like shit if you think about how the shops turn around and sell it for double the price they will give you for it, even less if you want cash.

I keep all games I want, sell all games I hate back to the store, and trade games I don't care to play anymore with friends to play their games. It defeats the middleman.

I do this at times, because I am usually strapped for cash. A good way to cannibalize your bad games to buy good ones.

If you care to think about it. Trading in your games only makes that game store richer. Every time they sell a used copy, its money in their pocket and not the developer. Recently I found a non-chain used-book/cd/movie store in my area and I am more than happy to trade my stuff there. Sure they may only give me a dollar or two more, but it makes me feel better.

The second play I will give you, but normally a game's value is set pretty early in its life by availability. The only time the price spikes late is if there is long delayed sequel or renewed interest. Case in point. There are enough FF7s out there to keep the price low.

That's true, I often wish I could go back and play some of my old N64 games.

I make it a policy only to buy new games, (unless the game in question is old or otherwise impossible to find new) but I have no problem trading in my games. Every once in a while I'd regret a trade... but you know what? I can't name a single one right now, so they can't have been that important. I think it's largely because I've figured out what games I will and will not replay nowadays and I don't trade in the ones I'd miss any longer. It helps me buy the new titles I want for less, and they can stick my copy of Mario Party 8 or Rampage World Tour on their shelf for it...

Instead of trading in your games, rent them out to your friends. You'll get more money in the long run, especially if you charge late fees.

When i bought my 360 I got Dead or Alive 4 and Project Gothem 3, went into EB to trade them, even though they were still in original package (in the plastic still) they were both worth $7.

Totally worth it

Think about what you trade in... I shouldn't have traded ExiteTruck - I want to buy it again now...

But on the other hand, I traded Wii Music, Disaster - Day of Crisis and HoTD 2&3 and got HoTD: Overkill with nothing to pay. I know for sure that Overkill will be played more than all of those put together

I can't be bothered with E-Bay, i'll just spen the money on skunk if I sell. Trading is instant
