Is Hawke meant to be Morrigan's child, or would that be way too obvious? You have to play as a human, you're the most important person in the land, and you have crazy awesome demon powers - sounds like a demon-child to me!

I don't get all the "final fantasy" lines though - replace "Hawke" with "Shepard" and "Thedas" with "the galaxy", and you don't end up with a pre-determined character in a predominantly linear adventure - you end up with your character (with a pre-determined surname) roaming the world, hunting some darkspawn (or whatever the threat is here)

I'll be following this with interest

Hell, I'd have been happy with the Mass Effect style of a slightly pre-set character, but you can change their face/class etc.

I think I'll pass on this.
That's great, because afaik that's the option you'll have.

On another note, looking forward to the release. It'll be great to play someone that can change their facial expression more than once or twice throughout the course of the game. I'm really looking forward to seeing the new Qunari really close up - there's a lot of interesting background, both of their history and their culture; they're probably one of the more interesting races that BioWare have created.

You know what looks like a great sign? All speculation and doubts cast aside, that trailer music was badass. I've got love for Marilyn Manson and all... but the whole Irish/Metal/Gregorian chant vibe works SO MUCH BETTER!

It is official, bioware makes awesome game trailers.
And that took you so long to find out? Have you seen the original trailers for Dragon Age Origins, or for SW:TOR? They are all awesome.

Of course those kind of trailers also tell you near to nothing about the game. Look at the Sacred Ashes trailer for DA:O. Did the combat look a bit different to the combat in the game? It could have advertised a completely different game. What those trailers do on the other hand, is setting the mood. And hell yes did this one set the right mood. I'll have to wait and see how Dragon Age 2 turns out, but I have my hopes high and Bioware better not disappoint me.
Kudos to you, my friend. You stole the words right out of my mouth.

I bet BioWare must be tearing their hair out. Pre-release, they can't seem to do anything right for the fans. There's no middle ground; either it's going to be God's gift to some or it's going to be like being teabagged to others.

Relax, people. We're in safe hands.

Ok, I was kinda annoyed at the size of that sword, it looked like someone thought that the handle of a spear was the weapon part and sharpened it. But when he did that demon hands thing, yeah, I can get behind that. I guess this means we get our first taste of multi-classing (aside from some of the specializations).

I need to go play Origins now.

Wow, the release date for the game in Europe is the same as my birthday! Pretty awesome.
And yes, the trailer was also awesome. Since i haven't played the first DA, i won't be playing this, at least until i get a new PC.

I am pretty sure "Hawke" is a kid in Lothering and not Morrigan's child. I believe Bioware has said that the beginning of the game takes place during the events of the first Dragon Age. Oh, and that horned thing is a qunari. They have said they apparently have horns now and that EVERY qunari you see in the first game is "atypical", whether that be rare or not, I don't know, but I love how they have changed the perception of an entire race in their world so easily.

BioWare CGI... *drewl*

Got to play some Baldur's Gate and buy Dragon Age 1 first before I even consider buying this one, even if it look supreme. With gimped PC-features.

...damn that looked cool. No gameplay yet, but why bother showing gameplay when you can show a badass summoning THE DEVIL to TEAR HIS OPPONENT IN HALF? Methinks the intended default path for this fella is Renegade, if you follow my meaning...

So I'll still be buying the hell out of this game?

Bioware has never let me down and I have no doubt they'll continue to not suck ass.

Yet another pointless CG fight trailer. Is anyone honestly impressed by fights on video anymore?

Seriously, what does this tell me about the game that I don't already know?

That Hawke can rip people in half using the arms of Satan himself?

I'm still pissed off.... This DA:2 still look like a magor let down... Since when it's a good business venture to remove more features than you had in it?

Now, Here is concept art of DA2 races, and this is real. I have some concept art of the Qunari that was in the video.

Now, that should answer most of people questions.

Yes because they've obviously showed a ton of gameplay that shows that nothing they plan to implement is going to work well right?

Yeah, that's the paradox of the fan: He has to praise everything HIS developer is doing, but hell breaks loose if they DARE to change an aspect of his beloved game. Even talking about changes before anyone has been able to see and judge them will evoke a major outcry.

It actually IS the Mass Effect style of character creation. Pre-set name and character, but you choose class and appearance. So...yeah.

In regards to the rest of the topic and its posters: I don't get what all the hand-wringing and bemoaning is all about. Like others have mentioned, the Sacred Ashes trailer was almost the same exact thing, and we had the same exact range of responses - from people saying it looked just like a brawler to those saying it looked epic. Gameplay is largely the same - tactical top-down view and gameplay for PC versions, console versions have become more streamlined to play better on the console. Same three classes, same customizable appearance, just with the ME-style set name and conversation system.

I mean, really, does anyone even bother to look anything up anymore? You'd think that on the internet where it takes all of, what, fifteen seconds to find an answer on Google you'd have more people finding out information for themselves instead of seeing something and then engaging in rampant speculation and crying that it's the end of the world and that they've been betrayed.

And no, that's not Morrigan's demon-god-dragon-baby. Confirmed by BioWare, and impossible because the game starts when Lothering gets destroyed. And as for the "super big sword" I think it's actually some sort of staff/halberd/sword thing, probably designed for mages that want to be more engaged in melee. The handle is way too long to just be a big sword, and the blade itself seems to be fairly similar in size to other, more normal swords.

Edit: Also, upon watching it again, the "sword" has a more elegantly-designed base, very similar to what the nicer mage staves had. Especially the curved wood that the big red gem is attached to. So I'm even more convinced it's some mage melee weapon.
