HAWX didnt cratch my itch for a flight sim, maybe this will like its predecessors, not including AC6.

169 missiles..........

That's all I got to say about this game. Not for me.

I miss Apache Gunship, 8(
It was probably on v. easy, in which you get about double the missiles you usually get on normal as well as infinite bullets.

Have you tried Il-2 Sturmovik: Birds of Prey? It's a console flight sim, and is as realistic as practical for a console game. The same company is currently working on a game called Birds of Steel (technically not part of the Il-2 franchise), and it looks to be the same thing, but for pacific fighters.

Anyway, I've been following this game for quite a while, and while it doesn't really look like Ace Combat, what it does look like is a heck of a lot of fun. If they can pull off a good story (and with the exception of AC6, they definitely can), then I'm in.

Those of you complaining about the change in gameplay have to remember: the change is because Ace Combat sales were dropping. They went for a major overhaul because they were losing money sticking with the same formula.

And this is coming from someone who likes those games. I loved Ace Combat, Wing Commander, and most other flight sim style shooters like them. But they died out, the old guard don't buy them like they used to, and there's not enough younger gamers interested.

Classic flight sim games are a very niche genre right now, and it'll be rare to find a big budget one released anymore. I'll still play Assault Horizon, will probably even like it... but it won't be the same as the old days.

Why are they using real locations and where's the sci-fi planes like the switch blade Wyren? Ace Combat 3 (on the PS1) is still my favorite. I was hoping they would make one more sci-fi inspired AC game, looks like it's not happening. Sadly this game looks as bad as HAWX.

It was VEEEPVEEEPVEEEEP pretty VEEEEEEEEEEP good except for {missile locked} ALL THAT FREAKING BEEPING! they better allow me to turn that off in game because I would rather look at the onscreen HUD indicators than bleed out the ears. And the graphics don't look that great. The flames and explosions just look too papery. But other than those annoyances it looks like a fun arcad-ey kind of flight sim.

Nobody really has the attention span for real combat flight sims these days. I really miss them as a genre - Jane's F-15 and Falcon 4.0 were incredible, too. Or going super old school, MicroProse's F-19 Stealth Fighter. There haven't been any good modern ones lately, although I'm looking forward to getting a computer that can run DCS A-10C Warthog.

I find it interesting that FPS games since the early 90s have been moving mostly towards greater realism, while flight simulators have mostly been avoiding realism like the plague in the same timeframe. Ace Combat and HAWX just aren't any fun for me.

Hopefully we won't have endless amounts of "operations" that just amount to escorting a useless squad of tanks across the ground.

YES AC6 I'M LOOKING AT YOU, I WANNA FIGHT IN THE AIR MOST OF THE TIME.

Oh man, they're bringing in aircraft racism!

Lockheed Martin=Good
Sukhoi=Bad

I miss the days of AC3 where I would fly a Russian Su-47 and my wingman would be an American F-15 S/MTD and we would take out French Dassaults... :(

You can fly all the planes, just like any other ace combat games. And the enemies will used varied planes as always, this is just the tutorial.

I doubt that... earlier AC titles had fictional nations, so they could use any aircraft they wished. They can't do that here since they're bringing in real-world nations. I have yet to to see the Russian mercenaries fly anything other than Sukhois (and 2 Tupolevs), and I doubt you'll be shooting off any American aircraft in the SP since you're yourself, you know, American.

This isn't going to be the usual AC fanfare - I've yet to see a fictional experimental fighter, and I doubt there'll be one since it's set in the real world.

Mind you, I'm not judging the game. It'll probably be fine, and if the change in setting helps it sell more (AC sales had been dropping, that's why there were no AC titles for the PS3 for such a long time), I'm not against it.

You can fly any craft, the player's in this video are shown using a mixture of Russian and European aircraft: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s_QBkRT9Iic Experimental craft have not been shown, however there are rumors of experimental Generation 5 combat aircraft to be included in the game. No point spoiling the surprise in your first trailers. Just because it is set in the real world does not mean they will take liberties to the rational story. We already know that super-weapons are in, with the Rebels using unidentified munitions to eliminate scores of U.N. aircraft. So experimental aircraft are not entirely unreasonable. This is set 5 minutes into the future after all.

Are you expecting Ace Combat to play like IL-2 Sturmovik and CFS2? You mad brah? Also they went and released Birds of Prey and Cliffs of Dover, I would suggest checking them out if you want a hardcore sim; not Ace Combat.

I really hope they still include a lot of insane superweapons and planes.
If this is just going to be another gritty-realistic modern-day scenario I shall vomit.

I've always enjoyed Ace Combat - the Ace Edge X360 stick is one of the best HOTAS flightsticks that I've found for the "moderate" enthusiast and it works on PC easily due to appearing an X360 controller! HAWX always seems a little too generic, I have to say I'm a sucker for the "Japanese Emotion in American Wargames", where there will be some side story with your wingman, there will undeniably be some sort of "prototype ultra aircraft" (AC6's thing that shot 40 missiles at once per shot?) and "giant boss" floating platforms or giant bombers. Of course, having the "Oh no! We didn't expect Team X to show up! Their boss, Colonel Y is the greatest fighter pilot in history" once early in the game (Where you run) and later come back to meet him once you're not flying a F4 while he's in a SU47 or something. Unfortunately, it appears that Assault Horizon won't be taking place in Gracemeria and the other fictional republics... too bad. I miss that sort of flexibility.

....I'm still waiting for my sky-laser.

You know how I was agreeing with everyone about how this game is just Call of Duty with Aircrafts? I've changed my mind. It's not CoD, exactly.

Instead, this is kinda like the Cover-based Third Person shooter of flight games. Just look at how sluggish those stick controls are(like TPShooters), you can't roll manually(like you can't jump manually in most third person shooters), and when you target someone, you move into a zoomed "over-the-shoulder-right-wing" angle (like....wait for it.....wait fo-THIRD PERSON SHOOTERS)

So it's NOT the Call of Duty of flight sims at all!

It's the Gears of War of Flight sims.

I have no idea if that's any consolation.
