It's the Gears of War of Flight sims.
Consolisation of a console game! That'll teach 'em! XD

Anyway, the thing is this game has 2 gameplay options - Original and Optimum. Original mode retains all the classic control features, while Optimum (which is featured in the gameplay vid) is aimed at the noob kiddies who are too scared to roll their aircrafts themselves and and need some kind of combo to do a Kulbit.

I don't blame the devs, really. AC sales have been on a decline and they need to broaden their demography. At least they kept the option to play it properly. Which can't be said about a lot of other studios.

Unfortunately, it appears that Assault Horizon won't be taking place in Gracemeria and the other fictional republics... too bad. I miss that sort of flexibility.
Me too.

Cons-ception?.......uhh, wait, no. Never mind

But yeah that is cool of them. Is that something you can change in-game on the fly; a menu option; or something you choose at the start of the campaign, do you know?

Beginning of campaign/mission or menu option, as it's been in other Ace games.

Wait, tell me they're fucking kidding?
Miami?
Iraq?
FUCKING Iraq?

So what, we're now just abandoning decades of fictional history and interesting countries and factions to satisfy the kind of retards who get hard over Modern Warfare?
I will not fucking play an Ace Combat game that takes place in the real world.
Why? Why the hell would they do something so monumentally retarded on every level? If I wanted to fight EVUL TERRUSTS I would play HAWX, I don't play Ace Combat so I can fight Russians or the Chinese or some ambiguous terrorists, I play Ace Combat to unlock crazy planes that fire lazer beams and to fight giant flying forts that can turn invisible.
Will this disgusting taint hit every series? Is the next Sonic game going to take place in Afghanistan? Will the next Pikmin game feature OMG SO REEL US Military weapons?
I'm probably more weary of sand than the people fucking stationed in Iraq right now.

Ace Combat: Joint Assault wasn't very popular for a reason, I'm so tired of this!
Even World War 2 shooters are starting to seem fresh and original by this point, at least there was no sand in Berlin.

Gameplay looks like a crappy rail shooter, you're seriously telling me you just lock on to an enemy plane and then your plane FLIES ITSELF!? This game was supposed to be about dogfighting! Where is the skill? Where is the reward?

You would have thought if they were going to make it a cinematic rail shooter they would have at least made the graphics better? Doesn't look like it, the terrain looks worse than HAWX considering the first HAWX came out a while ago, and IL-2: Birds of Prey on the 360 (cliffs of dover doesn't really count since it uses more powerfull hardware) has better terrain and by the looks of it, a better damage system.

Another bloody series I can write off as ruined.
The real casualties of war in the Middle East are videogames.

Enjoy all! And yes that is the Macross creator who is designing the plane.

i thought the real world setting was a terrible idea. it makes the super weapons and aircraft variation implausible; and makes for a really really dumb story. Look at how awful the plot was in joint assault. (on a side note even though it was poorly implemented i think the joint assault gameplay mechanic showed a lot of promise and i hope they use it in Assault Horizon.)

While it looks and sounds really cool am I the only one who misses it not being set in Belka, Ustio, Osea with over the top super weapons.
It's not?

They may have said it in the trailer, but I was kind of intent on the gameplay, so maybe I missed it.

That kinda sucks.

Also, are we actually going to have voiceovers from our pilot the entire game? I know the tutorial level might not reflect the full game (especially with the ending there), but...

Errr...Didn't the AC series pretty much always have noob settings?

I seem to remember actually playing that way in Air Combat, and I know they had the options in AC04 and 6.

Not this kind, no.

The novice setting of the series usually meant easier enemy AI. But this new optimum setting doesn't let the player take full control of the aircraft, for example the left stick makes the plane turn, not roll. Also, see how the player doesn't actually need to slow down and increase his angle of attack himself to do the Kulbit - instead relying on a button combo to make the maneuver?

Yeah...

Wait wait wait waaaaiiit. This is going to take place in the real world? Look, I'm not entirely against change, but I loved the stories that took place in fictional settings. I mean...AC5 I thought had a phenomenal story. Well, as good as you'd get for a flight sim anyway. 4 was great as well...and 6...well it was alright. But this...idk, I'm skeptical. I might take a pass on this if it's the overhaul I think it is. Good thing I still own 4, 5, and 6. <3

No, I played the first game with "left stick to turn" controls. And the option was definitely there in four, because some of my friends used it. And I'm pretty sure it gave you that option in 6, Zero, and 5.

Button combos, no. But the basic "Left stick to turn" is not new to the series.

I believe difficulty was a separate setting. I'm pretty sure that, too, has always been that way.

Huh. I never played below the normal mode, so maybe that's why I missed them out. Silly me, then.
