Stupid addition of a rap song, but whatever, I'm still getting it. Who doesn't love destructo-scenery? Especially when it can be useful.

Erm...Didn't you notice the EA stamp right in the beginning of that video?

Captcha: sofheyo school,
Actually that's exactly why I said it. Reaction to Crysis 2 trailer was something like "wow, damn good" while the reaction to this is more like "Why that particular rap?"

I will never understand modern shooters' obsession with rap music. It just doesn't fit at all, in my opinion, especially when the trailer seems to be trying to convey a realistic warfare sort of vibe.

I don't always enjoy rap, but when I do, It's because it was used well in a trailer. (referring to this one)

I'm, the only rap fan at The Escapist then, eh? Oh well, time to get crucified. I agree that 99 Problems is not a fitting choice, but Won't Back Down, and Till I Collapse were fitting for Black Ops. and MW2 respectively. Not all rap is self-indulgent horse-shit and neither is Jay-Z, but it's more fun (for most of raps audience) to listen to and express personal greatness. Rap evolved from New York and California gangsters, and their mentality is "I have to do shit for myself and beat anyone who think's they're better than me." That leads to grandstanding about how "I'm the best rapper alive so fuck you all." There is more realistic actual Gangsta Rap about the hood, and stories of drug-deals and cop chases, and the harsh reality of growing up in the ghetto, but personal struggle isn't what war is about. It's about sacrifice and anger.

Most (Please emphasize most. It'd be impossible to not generalize here so bear with me.) modern-day rockers are lower-middle to middle class suburban white kids who never dealt with really traumatic problems or poverty. That's why rap doesn't speak to a lot of them. It's also why songs about emotional problems or personal issues reach them. If you want to hear a story you listen to underground street rap or country. If you want to hear about problems in the world you listen to alt-rock or heavy metal. If you just want to jump around you listen to whatever is classified as "pop".

P.S. I don't listen to rap exclusively. I like plenty of rock (classic and modern), some retro pop (Michael Jackson to be specific), orchestral/symphonic, country (Johnny Cash), blues, & jazz. If it sounds good to me it goes on my iPod.

The game looks great. Too bad the trailer is so stupid. Seriously, a song about straight up misogyny for a shooter? Makes Battlefield look shallow and stupid.

Game play itself? Yeah looks great. Ill definately get it if it comes to Steam.

Yep, I actually enjoy the song a lot. I don't listen to rap mostly, but some songs can be quite amazing *points at Coolio etc*.

They are advertizing a game with a song "I've got 99 problems"? Does mentioning having problems help advertise your product? Am I the only one that sees a problem in this beyond the fact that it's a stupid rap song? I guess a bad PR manager is one of those problems. They should have made a better trailer that would fit "All along the watchtower" by Jimi Hendrix.
Even if the game does end up having a lot of problems, they can at least be patched. You can't patch stupidity.

How is a rap song about bitches goes along with a game that suppose to be realistic and about war?
And how this game won "shooter of the year" in some magazine if its not out yet?
This trailer just screams: "COD fans come here, we got rap songs! (aka cookies)"
Seriously, that's the first thing that stood out to me from this trailer. "99 problems but a ***** ain't one", could that perhaps be referring to the amount of bullet holes in his gut? That's the closest I've come to understanding it.

Ugh. Terrible music choice, it doesn't fit at all. BF3 sounds like a fun game, but all the marketing and Origin bullshit makes me wonder what the hell EA's thinking.

On a different note;

Who wouldn't want to play a WW2 game with Slayer's Angel of Death being played.
Probably the same amount of people who don't care about Jay-Z or Eminem. People have different taste.

Also googeling black ops and Eminem gives you the advertisement I was talking about.
Touché sir, touché.

I still say the song choice was a joke at the expense of the player; it's like, if you spend all your time playing this game (and you will), you may wind up with 99 problems, but you're going to be a girlfriend-less loser by the end of it, so a "*****" won't be one.

At least this thread is making a legitimate complaint about the odd choice of music; the last time this trailer came up on the forums, it was page after page of people whining about the "above and beyond the call" tagline at the end, which is a brilliant little dig at CoD, and not something to be upset about at all.
