If you listen to the song it's pretty clear its about critics, getting harassed by cops and talking shit.

OT:

I understand the vibe they was going for, pure grit. But the beat is a bit too slow to fit perfectly. Though i appreciate the effort to switch up the typical "epic" instrumental and metal tracks.

Y'know what i would replace it with? Dizee Rascals "Jus A Rascal", it keeps the vibe but is faster and more aggressive.


EDIT: I just realized it might just be another shot at COD. They got 99 problems due to the difficulty of making a game, but COD (a *****) aint one of them.

At the rate EA keeps dropping the ball on Battlefield 3, the game really will have 99 problems when it comes to launch,

Actually that's exactly why I said it. Reaction to Crysis 2 trailer was something like "wow, damn good" while the reaction to this is more like "Why that particular rap?"

Personally, I prefer the industrial/NIN sound they had with their other trailers, but honestly, I've seen much worse video game ads.

I played in the Alpha test, I played two Beta tests, and it's going to be a good game (with perhaps some bad marketing.)

I am happily awaiting Serious Sam 3, Tribes:Ascend, and other such faster-paced shooters, but this new Battlefield looks and feels amazing. They really shouldn't be marketing it as a CoD-killer though, because CoD:MW3 is a different game. It's about infantry combat. BF3 is about combined arms, while MW and MW2 were about infantry combat - no vehicles or jets or whatever. They're both games that some people will want to get both of. Personally I think the infantry combat in BF3 is pretty sweet even without all the other stuff, but the huge sprawling 64-player maps with rolling hills that I can drive an APC or MBT on really have a feel that you won't get from MW3. You might get it from ArmA though.

Anyway, my point is to not let this stupid trailer discourage you. I laughed when it came on and dismissed it, but I'm sure it will get some people to try the game, or at least just get them thinking about the game (aka: "mindshare")

Exactly this. Battlefield is aiming for a similiar audience, and is using similiar tactics in an attempt to get it. Don't like it? Too bad, but it won't effect the game, just watch some of the gameplay footage trailers if you like those more, there's nothing wrong with variety.

MW2 had eminem, black ops had rolling stones which was appropriate because of the era the game is set in. I feel that if you get the right music even a shit game seems appealing. I mean i was tempted to buy Call of Jaurez the cartel (knowing fully that it was shit) just because it had Pantera's Cowboys from Hell on the advert. I feel that metal is more suited to fps and shooter games than rap. Who wouldn't want to play a WW2 game with Slayer's Angel of Death being played.

Just wanted to point out that both used Eminem, and it wasn't only MW2 doing it, so the appropriateness doesn't really stick.

These trailers are just made to pump people up though, and something with a decent beat and kick to it can do that to people. I like Eminem, and some of the CoD trailers out there can do just that with it, but it's playing to certain players tastes. Some people prefer gameplay montages with the in-game sound, others with it dubbed to something else.

Me, personally, I liked the Bad Company trailers the best since they actually were funny to watch.

Look, I like BF and CoD. If you made me choose, I'd take Battlefield, but honestly I think it's a mistake for the publisher to pit itself against CoD. I think that's the wrong direction to go in - they're trying to trigger a rivalry despite the fact that "military shooter" is basically the only thing the two series have in common. This is only going to see a bleeding of the lines separating the two franchises and that isn't going to be good for anyone... Next thing you know, BF will have killstreaks and CoD will have vehicles and nobody's gonna be happy.

It's not the song that people are pissed about, it's the implication that rap songs and explosions are enough to sell the game, regardless of relevance to the actual content of the game.

It's an implied insult, not unlike in the nineties when Hollywood tried to sell kids movies with catch phrases like 'It's rad!' It shows what the publisher thinks of it's audience... which isn't much.
