I do not envy the guy to had to sit through hours and hours of ELF, PeTA, ultra-right Christian groups, and doomsday prophecy videos to make this piece.
Not necessarily. Human Revolution is being billed as a Prequel. So while you don't NEED to play it to know what's going on, you'll miss all the subtle nods to the original that they're apparently throwing in.antipunt said:So this means I'll have to play the original I take it

And that's why I think it's clever- the main arguments against the use of augs. (some of it is "playing god" bullshit) is the invasion of privacy, and the addiction for profit aspect. The fears of corporate takeover and fears of privacy invasion are things we can understand at this point, and they are simply overlayed on this more fantastical concept in order to give it a context we understand. While I'd love to be an unstoppable robot with my own mind- I don't want to do so at the cost of becoming a slave to a faceless corporation. Thus, I felt the two sides were reasonably well fleshed out and equally valid- as opposed to portraying one side as stupid and reactionary, or greedy and evil.sosolidshoe said:It really isn't though. It's an argument against corporatism, against invasion of privacy, against government and corporate interests being aligned, but it's not actually an argument against the concept of augmentation.Prof. Monkeypox said:Clever. If an augmentation debate ever came up for real- I'd be on Sarif's side. But this is an interesting and frightening counter-argument that gives me hope that the game will be worth playing.
Frankly, if the sort of augmentations that are shown in the new Deus Ex game(not the combat ones) were available? I'd sign up for every medical trial, save every penny of cash, until I had a full suite. Why remain as a limited, fleshy sack when you could run faster than a car, see beyond the visible spectrum, upgrade your mind and your memory, and live a longer and healthier life with less chance of injury? Because that's the reality of man merging with machine, as long as we can keep the profiteers out of it.
I'm really hoping that the game won't portray the pro-augmentation side as entirely villainous and malicious, there are enough neo-Luddite pseudo-philosophers in politics and the media as it is.
