I do not envy the guy to had to sit through hours and hours of ELF, PeTA, ultra-right Christian groups, and doomsday prophecy videos to make this piece.

I think they could do worse with the augmentations. For instance, make the chips loop Steal My Sunshine constantly.

So this means I'll have to play the original I take it

hrm
Not necessarily. Human Revolution is being billed as a Prequel. So while you don't NEED to play it to know what's going on, you'll miss all the subtle nods to the original that they're apparently throwing in.

Also, if you play this game first...you're probably gonna have a hard time getting into the older one. That said, the original Deus Ex was pretty damn good. A bit clunky, but good.

EDIT: Also, at times like this, I am proud to be a Montrealer. ....Did I mention I'm stoked that they've included Montreal as an acutal location in game?

Wow a game tackling drug addiction, science interfering with nature and freedom to protest and if the trailer is to believed a comparatively mature way(well compared to other videogames). Have Eidos Montreal been watching Extra Credits, I may be slightly optimistic about this one, which hasn't happened since mirrors edge.

It seems that they've certainly put a lot of effort into creating a cohesive and well fleshed-out world in which to set this game; let's just hope that the game itself actually gives you the chance to explore it; otherwise it's just backstory.

Want. Want so hard.

God damn that was a great trailer. And going by what most have said about the leaked preview copy, this is going to be one hell of an amazing game.

Clever. If an augmentation debate ever came up for real- I'd be on Sarif's side. But this is an interesting and frightening counter-argument that gives me hope that the game will be worth playing.
It really isn't though. It's an argument against corporatism, against invasion of privacy, against government and corporate interests being aligned, but it's not actually an argument against the concept of augmentation.

Frankly, if the sort of augmentations that are shown in the new Deus Ex game(not the combat ones) were available? I'd sign up for every medical trial, save every penny of cash, until I had a full suite. Why remain as a limited, fleshy sack when you could run faster than a car, see beyond the visible spectrum, upgrade your mind and your memory, and live a longer and healthier life with less chance of injury? Because that's the reality of man merging with machine, as long as we can keep the profiteers out of it.

I'm really hoping that the game won't portray the pro-augmentation side as entirely villainous and malicious, there are enough neo-Luddite pseudo-philosophers in politics and the media as it is.
And that's why I think it's clever- the main arguments against the use of augs. (some of it is "playing god" bullshit) is the invasion of privacy, and the addiction for profit aspect. The fears of corporate takeover and fears of privacy invasion are things we can understand at this point, and they are simply overlayed on this more fantastical concept in order to give it a context we understand. While I'd love to be an unstoppable robot with my own mind- I don't want to do so at the cost of becoming a slave to a faceless corporation. Thus, I felt the two sides were reasonably well fleshed out and equally valid- as opposed to portraying one side as stupid and reactionary, or greedy and evil.

The ARG going on at sarifindustries.com is pretty cool too. I'm guessing enough facebook links to the augmentations unlock the laz_### files. Quite the expensive marketing campaign.

This is an awesome trailer mainly for one reason - If something like human augmentation ever happened, then this would have been a real counter argument. Great work, definitely not regretting the choice to buy this

That is a very insightful trailer. Personally, I don't want limb augmentation. All I want is Wikipedia in my head.

There are also interesting real-life references at the Sarif Industries site, such as the one to the Artificial Silicon Retina microchip.

Probably won't ever get the game but doesn't mean that this trailer hasn't gotten me very interested in it.

Expect me to predate the wikipedia entry for the game for a long time now.

I won't even care if the game isn't good, I'll play it to hell anyway because it appears to be the last thing in the world that gets cyberpunk.

anyone else think this should become a movie like it seems like a more serious version of Repoman
