Didn't think I was going to like what I was about to see because it was live action, but it was kinda cool.

Some nice build up here, perhaps at some point we get to see it go horribly wrong or something. I don't really know much about Dues Ex, hopefully the trailers will teach me something.

I actually like this a lot. The CGI is slightly rough on the limbs, but overall it is subtle and somewhat realistically portrayed. It reminds me of the pre-District 9 videos that showcased the new and weird robot technology. I'd like to see more, and hopefully it plays a role in the game as well instead of being purely ARG-like.

I don't give a shit if they are retconning the old Deus Ex stuff, either. It is self-contained so old now and that they can afford to do something of a reboot. Trying to retrofit new technology into an old timeline is a sucky thing to have to deal with.

This is going a bit too far. Both with the message, and with the game's lore.

Here's a totally justified question: if you can augment your eyes without any external effects, then WHY DID GUNTHER HAVE RED GLASS BINOCULARS FOR EYES!? [http://img24.imageshack.us/img24/6379/mts2esmeraldaf1012168gu.jpg]
Well to borrow an explanation from another source, in Shadowrun you could only load so many features into cyber-eyes before they could no longer be concealed or fit as normal looking eyes. So considering Gunther mentions having x-ray, infrared, satellite uplink and among who knows what else(he has a affinity for being over the top), I wouldn't have a hard time with that justification.

So you're saying the more technology advances, the more space it occupies?

History would like to have a word with you.
Perhaps he had those things for protection off...well.. Something?

Anyway, this trailer alone raises an interesting question for me. If I were to enhance myself to play guitar better, would I be a better guitarist? I don't think so, despite the amplifed speed and precision.

No, I am saying the more technology you place into a single item the larger it gets. Adam and Gunther would have been augmented around the same time.

Dam you deus ex, stop teasing me. I want eye implants so much, also all those other kinds would be nice too.

I love viral marketing, in-universe ads... and Deus Ex delivers.

I live in hope that one day they'll make an actual GAME as good as the original one.

So what's the explanation for Adam never changing his appearance no matter how much his augments progress but Gunther eventually turning into this Robocop dude.

You can argue that Gunther had extensive mech surgery replacing most of his organic parts, but this doesn't explain the big picture: why the old augmented agents in Deus Ex were displayed as mechanical, clunky cyborgs while in Deus Ex 3 they're all slick and very human-like.

Ultimately it's an issue of what could and couldn't be displayed on character models then and now, but it's really not that hard to come up with a few plausible reasons.

- Gunther volunteers for "first-generation" augments, possibly placing his augmentation before what's shown in Deus Ex 3.
- Military or UNATCO orders are given to the lowest bidder, so Gunther's augments are not designed for aesthetics nor represent the best levels of miniaturization.

No, but he just had a fuckton of it in his eyes. The dude in the video just looked like he had a HUD, some Augmented Reality software and a videocamara in his eyes. That's a long shot away from Gunther's military hardware.

Graphics technology improved, allowing greater detail in character features. Thus it's now possible to make said augmentations look more natural. They can be shown without having to dominate the character's models.

Oh, I'm sorry, were we looking for something to keep suspension of disbelief intact?

Ultimately this is one of the things limited by technology, and a problem not uncommon to video games which are highly dependent on technological advances.

The point is the character designs would start to look stupid if they had to stick what was going on back in 1999.

Hmm, with this trailer trying so hard to seem realistic, the arm/hands implants wouldn't be developed so they are fully visable: they would be covered in mock silicon skin. Or with technology that advanced, fully grafted skin. Hell by the time we get to augments we will probably be able to grow replacement limbs in a lab and then attach them (we being the human race).

unless you prefer artificial limbs with no cosmetic skin thats what Id do ... if your going to have an artificial arm may aswell be proud of being cybernetic besides its really cool.
