Nice things:
Visuals are looking quite nice.
I really like the whole "Demons hiding in plain sight" thing they've got going on.

Not nice things:
That little "I'm Dante" line made me cringe.

Also, I'm not really understanding this whole "cocky" complaint that people keep bringing up. Have any of you played DMC 3 or 4? Particularly the third one.

Oh for the love of- It's a re-imagining of Dante. Heaven forbid someone try and do something different with a character in a universe that's not even in cannon to the one you're fawning and fretting over. I hear complaints all the time about how games like COD never try anything different and they're a part of the 'homogamy' of gaming, but how do you expect it to change when changes are met like this?

OT: The trailer hasn't done much to fuel my interest beyond what was already present. I'll wait for actual reviews before I form an active opinion.

Still not interested.
Haven't been since I learned they removed Devil Trigger, Styles and Enemy Hike.
A douche main character is just killing the series for me even more.

So yeah. I'm going to ***** about a game that hasn't come out yet, and I'm especially going to point out that the script sucks and the writers have no idea what they're doing, and that I can do a better job.

You know what would be a nice badge to earn on The Escapist? If we can all go a single day without oozing entitlement from out very pores.

That's just wishful thinking, though.

Because that's fucking impossible nowadays.

---

Now that that's off my chest, on to the topic at hand:

I'm really liking this. First of all, Ninja Theory seemingly came out of nowhere and damn-near perfected the facial technology in games (much better than whatever Rockstar was trying to accomplish, at least). Secondly, the new Dante reminds me a lot of the cocky young Dante from Devil May Cry 3, except here they went with a gritty punk feel instead of high camp and retarded lines in DMC3 (my only real complaint about that one).

That's pretty much all I can really say about this. Sure, I could ***** and moan that Dante uses naughty words now, but I'm not 10. I could complain about his appearance or general attitude, but I can't. Mostly because this is isn't THAT Dante, and I got over that fact when right around the time the second trailer for this game came out.

I'm picking this one up when it comes out. If it turns out bad, then it's bad. If it turns out to be pretty awesome, then that's a 3-for-3 in the Ninja Theory playbook (No one counts Kung Fu Chaos, not even Ninja Theory.) Either way, this should prove interesting at the very least.

Having said that, I wish someone would slap around the writers over at Capcom so we can finally figure out what happens to the first Dante between the events of DMC4 and DMC2.

Scene setting: Ninja Theory and Capcom walk up to a bunch of kids playing basketball in a park.

Capcom: "Hey kids, you like Devil May Cry?"

Kid #3 and #7: "I do, I do!"

Ninja Theory punches Kid #3 and Kid #7 in the balls.

Kid #3: "Oww! Why did you do that?"

Kid #7 (faintly): "I think my penis is bleeding!"

Ninja Theory (to other kids): "You kids are going to love this game!" (shows picture)

Kids (group): "Wow!"

-"Looks awesome!"

-"What is it?"

-"Are you an angel"

Kid #12 loots Kid #3's body, finds video, watches it.

Kid #12: "Jesus Christ! That was badass! Can I get a game like this?"

Ninja Theory looks at Kid #12, snaps fingers.

Capcom pulls out a bat, starts hitting Kid #12 with it.

Ninja Theory (over the sound of Kid #12 screaming in the background): "Don't worry, his hair is white."

Kid in the back: "His what is what?"

That thunderclap you just heard? That was the sound of my hand crushing my occipital bone with my frontal bone.

I was always cynical about this game. However, until now I've been waiting for a demo to come along before writing it off. But this. Wow.

This game will suck.

There is no question. There is no possibility otherwise. This game will suck.

This game will suck. Moldy. Balls.

Thank fucking Christ for Platinum Games. At least I've got them to depend on.

Holy temper tantrum Batman.

First of all you should have quoted some of us at least to avoid looking like a passive agressive individual.I guess script comment was towards me.Yeah i think it was stupid and yes i think i would have written it better.Hell anyone with an ounce of creative imagination could. But what i have seen is a compilation of cliches and dull writing intended to look cool with vulgar language.I mean really?A guy with a mask demonizing the existing order?Fighting your own demons?A world within a world that is unseen by common individuals?Just rehashing the tired formulas and adding nothing to the table is not good writing.Take the guest list scene for example. An ample opportunity for character exposition. What does writer write?.Fuck You?

Yeah fuck you, you talentless wanker.

As for the world entitled, don't use it again please i am sick of seeing it.No i have no reason to back it up.It is just a request.

And they succeeded.

Welcome to The Escapist, try to attack the argument as opposed to the person next time. "Why?" You ask? Fair warning before the mods slam you, HARD.

Guess i am misunderstood. When i said talentless wanker, i meant the writer. Not the person whom i replied.Plus why would i insult him before politely asking them for something?

Yes Dante is back! I was worried there, but this is looking like a more worthy successor to DMC3 than DMC4 was.

DMC4 was just... boring... Dante was too comfortable, everyone was too comfortable. DMC3 Dante was younger, brasher and had enough personality to have an arc. Whats more he did the little things cool. Catching the notepad so smoothly was perfect. I love the arena transforming, the story looks like it might be DMC3 good. They had an awesome stylised red/white thing going on in part. The combat finally looks fast.

This is not the game they first showed us.

Saying that, I can't get behind Dante's vest. Everything but that.

EDIT: To clears things up, I haven't played DMC 1, apparently Dante was a lot cooler, older, calmer in that one so maybe I'm coloured by seeing the young Dante. I really didn't like square^2-jawed DMC4 old Dante.

So he might actually get character development? Yeah, I'm OK with that. Beats "I'm a cocky demon hunter who becomes the same cocky demon hunter" I liked old Dante but if the new one starts with FLAWS, which is what we're all shouting he has, it might make it more interesting. As a character.

Not calling old Dante a Mary-Sue but I actually liked Ninja Theory's games and played them to a reasonable level to say they put in a solid effort with plot and characterisation so I'm willing to give them a chance. I am also laughing my ass off at anyone who's raging at the new 'generic plot'. As if I play the games to hear what obscure poorly explained devil Dante's killing this time.

OK, now you are entitled(HA! Sorry, didn't even mean to do that) allowed to have your own very swear heavy, more than a little ironic, opinion. But DMC, much as I love it, does not have the most... complicated of plots in the gaming world. I love it and all but what IS Nero? How exactly did Mundus make Trish, for that matter, how did he know what she looked like? Where was Lady through DMC 1-2? Where exactly does Dante live is it Earth the Underworld? Where does he even order a pizza FROM? Why are there no ordinary people except those who live on that island protected by a bunch of medieval knights?

I like Devil May Cry, hell I even played Viewtiful Joe for the cameo, but I don't think you can rag on the new game for it's plot >_>

cant wait for this, every trailer i see gets me more and more psyched for it.
still like the art direction, there is something about it i cant put my finger on, but not sure what it is
Wow really? For me it is the opposite: with each trailer I am less and less interested in this game and after seeing this trailer I decided that I am definitely not going to buy or play this. They broke Dante's character too much, not just in aesthetics but in personality as well. He went from laid back to a complete douche. The way he talks... why do I have the image of Justin Bieber trying to act tough in my mind hen I see the segments in this latest trailer where Dante talks? Ah, because he sounds like a cocky little brat, that's why.

And the swearing and the smoking? What for? To make him look cool or something? Dante was always among the biggest badasses in gaming without doing any of those and he did so effortlessly. This Dante... it is like he is trying too hard to impress, to hard to look cool. The villain didn't look bad but what's the point if I simply hate the character I would be playing as?

I am a huge fan of the Devil May Cry series. I loved 1, 3 and even 4 (admittedly I haven't played the 2nd one myself ^^). And I am not someone who is against change in a gaming series. But the change has to be for the better. Improve stuff or introduce new things to it. But change for changes sake just go get some shocker sales when something wasn't broken in the first place (here: the protagonist) that's where things start to get iffy for me. I never thought that anything could tear me away from this series but they did it. Everything in this game seems so.... punky to me. That dude from "The Order", Dante, the music... Sorry this just isn't for me.
If anyone can enjoy that: more power to you. I can't.

So yeah: no more Devil May Cry for me as long as it is like this. There are other games out there.
really not sure where people have gotten this image of dante? I have played an ungodly amount of devil may cry (all three), but all dante is is an over the top cocky demon hunter with a campy faction sense and a flair for the theatrics, and from what i have seen this game nails that. the combat over the top, dante cocky not for the sake of it but because he really is that good.
take a couple of years of the dante from dantes awakening and you would end up with this guy.
i think they need to show more trailers with that partner from the earlier trailers, because that would at least allow for a better gauge of character, dante on his own is pretty damn shallow.

also the smoking and swearing thing is just the whole dark-gritty thing that is expected now a days, don't forget this is the e3 trailers, those could very well be all the swearing that is present in this game and thrown in for the appeal/shock value
So you left out the 2nd one as well huh? ^^ Seeing how you said "all three" when there's 4.

I think ScareJester nailed it down pretty nicely.
ScareJester said:
I expect the combat to be good, but the new Dante seems more... douchey. In an annoying way. Less laid back "Chill, I've got this" and more the overcompensating "You think you can take me? Do ya? Well? DO YA, HUH?!". Still want to see how it turns out, though.
To ramboondia: The original Dante is just more accomplished in being provocative. You could say that this is naturally the case since the original Dante is older than the reboot Dante, well: take Devil May Cry 3 into consideration and age suddenly becomes less of a factor. They have different levels of charisma and presence. It is like the original Dante looking down upon other demons - and rightfully so - whereas the reboot Dante is like that small pitbull pissing everyone off just for the heck of it.
In short, original Dante is The Rock and reboot Dante is Daniel Bryan.
Oh, and they made him hella ugly too.

As for Dante being shallow: the 4th installment really didn't really do much in terms of character development or anything but then again that game wasn't about him. But you do see how has matured in his own way with him acting sort of like a mentor towards Nero (or that's the way I remember it, it's been a while). I thought in the other ones he had his deep moments, especially in 3. Sure he is no Snape in complexity but it worked for me and for enough people out there to care about whether 'their' Dante gets bastardized or not.

His moments with his partner in earlier trailers (this one http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xOAFS43jGsQ for instance) were something I did not like. He bitches about enemies appearing, openly showed concern, he says "here comes trouble"... original Dante just throws in a joke or 2 and gets the job done and seldom acknowledges anything being a threat to him let alone standard fodder demons. Hell, he stood before Arkham who assimilated Sparda's Power and STILL made fun of him.

This reboot just doesn't work for me. I would have much rather liked a continuation of where Devil May Cry 4 left off. Or another jump into the past where Vergil and Dante fought side by side. Ah well, hopefully we will see one of those scenarios with Devil May Cry 5.

So just because of its predecessors fault, this game is allowed to make mistakes? What is even more ironic is that this is a re-imagining and have a chance to start a new.But what i have seen is anything but new.Excuse me but i fail to see the logic in this argument
