Every minute and dollar spent on something like this is time and money that would be better spent on making another tactics game.
Or spent making Versus 13 even better then it already appears to be (Which is already pretty fucking good).

Again i must ask: Was there really a large group of people foaming at the mouth and demanding a sequel to 13?
Try the 5-7 million people who bought XIII and Square Enix would say yes. Those kind of numbers just don't lie that the game was popular, even with all the negative feedback (which they're listening to)

People just don't seem to realise that XIII-2 and Vs XIII are made by different teams. Vs XIII is being made by the Kingdom Hearts team and XIII-2 is being made by those who made XIII.

There was a LOT of mythos and story of the worlds of Cocoon and Pulse still left to be told in XIII, and that was one thing that I hoped to learn more of as I finished XIII. I'm glad they are making a sequel, and y'know this is in the same 'universe' as Vs XIII and so the whole 'The Maker' and 'Goddess Etro' ties in very closely to vs XIII.

Don't believe me? Go and watch one of the gameplay trailers of Vs XIII and they will talk about the Goddess of Death (i.e. where they get their magic from in that game) and that is Goddess Etro... the same Goddess Etro who Lightning serves in XIII-2.
Ok here is my take on this. Remeber when square enix said they had enough content deleted from the original final fantasy 13 that they could make another game? Well my guess is this is what they were talking about plus a little extra. They are probably just using that extra stuff they had lying around. i make it a point to know a good amount about square games b4 i purchase them and from what I am seeing so far this does not excite me much. If they bring bat the ultima weapons from the other final fantasy's then i will be sold. I need to kick his ass.

Hope took a level in badass?

Can Hope even take a level in badass in the first place?
He can, but he will still be an infinite number of levels away from quantifiably badass.

Waaaaaaaaaaaank.

I mean, they don't even make sense anymore...They just spout the same retarded "reach for the stars and follow your heart" crap as before, but it just doesn't work.

Maybe I'm too old for this shit.

That said, I've read *loads* of stuff on Twitter from people absolutely over-the-moon-excited that Hope is returning. My mind exploded. More Sazh and/or Fang please, or GTFO.
There's a frighteningly big Hope and Lightning (pair) fandom for some reason... which is scary.

Hope did the "mysteriously save the good guy from afar after which the camera slowly focuses on him" thing. I'm pretty sure only badasses can do that. He wasn't so bad towards the end of the first one, so whoo?

I'll give this the benefit of the doubt. XIII was incredibly fun, but it changed the formula around a tad TOO much. It looks like this one is incorporating some of the things that were left out in XIII. The action looks over the top, but I've always been a fan of that kind of crap.

After all, a stated design goal of XIII Versus was to make battles like the ones in Advent Children playable. XIII-2 seems to accomplish some of that.

For what i see everyone skipped the most important issue made in the trailer.
If the Moogle changes in to a bow... witch part of his body is the String...

But on the topic, yeah, FF XIII was terrible, very long, limited leveling was a pain, ending of the plot (actually the whole main plot) didnt actuall have sense. Characters were decent and grinding at the end was just more Korean than Japanese. But I really want to play second part, and i will repeat the first one soon, just after I get 100% Achievements in Arkham Asylum.
I will serve you until the end of time!Penis-string indeed...

OT:Tactics. We need more of it!The anime-jrpg crossroad approach is just 'bleh' at this point.

Holy crap, someone who is smart on The Escapist forum? I AM AMAZE. You, sir, get unlimited amounts of internet and win. Use them wisely!

Also, by "universe", it's mainly just the whole l'Cie/fal'Cie/Eidolon/Goddess Etro stuff, as you mentioned. Versus XIII isn't set anywhere near Cocoon or Pulse, it just uses a bunch of similar lore.

I'm sure that's what you meant and all, but just sayin'~! :D
I've read through your impressive quadruple post, and I take it by 'smart' you mean someone who shares your point of view and doesn't think 13 was an uninteresting turd and who thinks that Final Fantasy hasn't been ran into the fucking ground?

Whatever man.

If you cool kids are so much more on the ball then the rest of us, riddle me this. If FF13 began development in 2004, and the first E3 details were released in 2006, and the game wasn't actually released in Japan until 3 years later, then how was 13-2 cranked out in about a year?

Now while you think about that, think about this: Art Director for 13, Isamu Kamikokuryou, has gone on record at FF Reunion that there was enough material removed from FF13 to create a new game(his words). The producer, Yoshinori Kitase, also said that there was DLC prepared, but all talk of that mysteriously disappeared.

So we have a new game appearing in an astonishingly fast time-scale, FF13 having huge chunks of content taken from it, and a supposed DLC pack disappearing. Make what conclusions you will.
Apparently, they spent most of thier time developing cut-scenes...take that for what you will!
BTW I agree with you.

at least we saw some game play it looks.... better than 13 but that's not saying much.
you know when people ask for a remake for ff7 its not only because 7 is beyond ugly but because they want to remember the good times and 7 was the best time.
i wish that they made a ds remake of 7 or 6 or 5 that would be awesome.

I bought the game and was filled with weapon's grade level of regret over it.

FXIII was an extremely overrated pile of hype that people bought on Reflex because "ZOMG New FF game."

I tried to convince myself that the combat system didn't resent me being there, I tried to convince myself that the endless hallways with pretty scenery weren't rail roads, I tried to convince myself that I actually cared about these characters.

But you know what?

That much blind denial doesn't exist in my area code.

These days if you want to play a decent RPG the best place to go is a hand held. So until Square gets off their arses and makes a FFVII remake (no it won't take 40 years, especially if you don't mess with the gameplay and change the battle system like you love to do) I'll be playing Valkyria Chronicles 2 or Tactics Ogre.

If a direct Final Fantasy sequel is released into the wood and no one is around to hear it. Does anyone really care?

I don't. Final Fantasy XIII was a lobotomy on a disc. XII rocked the bridge for me but XIII burned it. I'm not going to be buying any more Final Fantasy games that aren't remakes. I used to love the series, but they just don't have it anymore.
Two bad games=series ruined forever!

Having just replayed FFIX, only one thing springs to mind: Why arent square going back to that? Loads of trivial stuff that actually makes it FEEL LIKE AN RPG:
-Open worlds with world maps. Its so easy to make too! World maps are exactly that: a map. Maps dont need great graphics.
-walking around the towns (more than one town!)
-talking with/ignoring whoever you want
-sidequests
-minigames
-slightly different story depending on what team members you chose
-having choices that slightly affects the story(!!!)
Isn't that exactly what they're going for though? Versus XIII will be Sandbox-esque, XIII-2 will have multiple endings and choices in the game that actually affect gameplay as well as minigames, and Type-0 will have a world map.

XIII seems like nothing more than a rare occurence.

Oh god they added quick time events to turn based combat :D
And I was just joking with a buddy how to make the worst possible gameplay, these guys are reading my freekin mind!

I actually know how to improve it immensely, remove all gameplay, then I will be far more interested in it.
