Here is a question, how come I was awesomesauce at Halo 1 multiplayer but sucked dog balls at Halo 2 multiplayer? (cept for driving)
Because the combat evolved.

HEY-O!
Well done, sir.

OP: This game seems almost tailor-made for people like me. I loved the original Halo to an extent that none of its subsequent entries could match, even Reach.

Too bad for them I don't have a 360.
Just get the PC version of Halo one, there might be some mods out there.

*Does a Google search*

Yes, there are mods, not sure about graphical mods, but mods none the less.
If you own Halo 1 on PC, you are eligible for an upgrade to Halo: Custom Edition. It is basically an enhanced version of the game optimized for computers, sort of like how The Witcher 1 could be upgraded to the Enhanced Edition.

It also lets you mod the living shit out of the game. Remember the E3 Halo 2 Demo that ends with Chief surrounded by Elites on the bridge? Someone took that in Custom Edition and made a working level out of it.

That wouldn't be a bad idea if I had a gaming computer. However, I do not.

The game is from 2001, pretty sure the "Average" PC can run it now.

My computer froze within ten minutes of starting up Thief. It expelled smoke and ground bits of I-don't-know-what when I tried to play Morrowind. I am not risking fucking my computer. It browses the internet and plays videos very quickly and lets me do my school work. That's all I need from it.

I don't remember the magazines floating in mid air before you slam them back into the rifle. They might want to fix that.

Doesn't anyone find it a bit unnerving how they try to pass up no change for a feature? asically they should just say that you are playing a 10 year old game with better graphics and the option to turn them off.

So far, I haven't seen anything that makes me wanna buy it.
They're changing nothing apart from the graphics, yeah, but that is probably better. The Master Chief has become a sacred icon (purty much) and any attempt to change him in the Bungie games (other than in resolution) will probably cause an outrage.
But how about the AI? I mean, if you payed the original and then all the subsequent releases, or even other FPS's, and now go back and play it again you'll find it to be a breeze until after the Flood pop out. I'd rather have had new enemy AI instead of new graphics.
The cynic in me says they are capitalizing on fans of the first game by releasing it as a nostalgiafest with a lick of paint, while cutting down on how much the game costs by not introducing a new AI/physics system.

But then again, I REALLY want to see how the game would stand up if released today without the previous Halo games preceding it, and this method is as close as I'm going to get, so I'm happy with their work on it.

Who knows, maybe a future Halo game might have a full retelling of the original campaign (not just shiny new pixels), although I wouldn't hold my breath. :/

Also I'm certain that changing the game in any way other than graphics will incite the verbal e-thug wrath of a vocal minority of forum going Halo fans.

Seriously, it's not even being made by Bungie, jackass.

At least get your facts straight before you start insulting a developer that has always, and I mean always, been good to its fans. Seriously; they're basically the Valve of consoles.

So the guy talks about developing exciting new features at the beginning and then goes on to endlessly repeat how the game is exactly the same as the first one but with a graphical make-over? ... *facedesk*
Come on, Microsoft, let the series die already. I enjoyed the ride, really, I did, but this is just sad.

"Game: Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary Edition
Genre: Fighter"

Might wanna get that fixed. Unless I'm wrong? Idk D:

OT - Sort of really keen on this. I don't use XBLA so this is a good oppurtunity to crank Combat Evolved like it's two-thousand and something.

Sigh. There are games so much more deserving of an overhaul. Had this exact same approach been taken with say, the original Deus Ex, you'd hear the clink of champagne glasses. Instead, you hear the understated sound of eyebrows moving in opposite directions. What a waste of development capital.

I dont know which one is sadder

The fact that they expect me to pay $40 for nothing but a graphics update....or the fact that imo the updated engine makes the game look worse

He lost me at "Plays exactly like the original".

I remember the original being... bland.

My god, this would actually have been worth it if they'd upgraded the enemies with Reach's AI and stuff, but no, 343 just wants to exactly replicate Bungie's game, and even their one improvement - the graphics - is so shallowly integrated that it can be turned off on the fly. Fuck that for £25.

Halo 1 with added content like the skulls system, online multiplayer, that waves-of-enemies mode they brought in with ODST, and upgraded, modern AI would have been fantastic, and a real tribute to the classic game. These guys are almost making a mockery of it and its fans, imho.

...Where were the hunters? At the part of SC that he ended on there are supposed to be a pair of Hunters there. Maybe they had fallen from the platform or something...

Other than that it looks great! I'm more than likely going to grab this up but probably not day one.

Yeah, looks good.

I don't really know what else to say, i'll be damn near obligated to buy it, seeing as most of my mates will, and i will damn well WANT to buy it anyway.

I am ashamed to admit i never finshed halo 1. I got as far as the library. You know? The one where the radar goes bright red with the amount of enemies? When you're about seven, that's enough to make you give up on life.

So yeah, this will be a good chance to complete it once and for all, and i'm one of the people who thought reach was good, so i'm liking the new paint-job.

EDIT: Yeah, i'll probably get some sort of limited edition version. Not the massive "legendary" sort of thing, but the smaller one, like the black-box for reach.

i'm bashing it because it includes nothing more on disc than a campaign with prettier graphics. i already own Halo 1 for my xbox and its forward-compatible, so this would just be a waste of money unless they included the Halo 1 multiplayer on disc with all the original maps AND they included new firefight maps based on locations in the Halo 1 campaign AND included the option to play multiplayer and firefight with classic weapons AND included the option for flood to be mixed in with covenant for firefight (or just all flood all the time) with the same level of customization as was in Reach.

otherwise? all the work they did was add some new textures and lighting, make us pay 40 bucks for it, and called it a day.
I agree with this. I'm not going to pay 40 dollars for a graphics update. They have to either add a lot more features, or drop the price to about 10 dollars.
