Do the Saints Row games follow on from each other, or are they stand alone titles?

SR3 looks awesome, but I want to know if not playing the prequals will hinder me story wise.

Oh the insanity. I was laughing the whole time. Also, I predict that by the end of this game, the Saints will own america.

Not really, The only thing is the fact that the player character was the leader of the saints in the previous game, in the second, you were in jail getting plastic surgery from being hit by a bomb or something in the first game, and now in the third you are the leader, and you own the town or something like that

Good to know.

There's a void in my life that GTA used to fill, but now Rockstar are all serious, I need me some replacement crazy.

Yeah, Alderman Hughes is running for mayor and while you're trying to free Julius from jail, you board his boat to talk to him, only to have it blown up on the both of you. In the second game, you're waking from the coma that you were put in thanks to the bomb and have to re-take Stilwater from three new gangs (who have awesome members and stories) and the Ultor group, who became a multinational conglomerate and rebuilt the Row from the ground up.

It's a really great game, you should play it even if you don't feel like you want to know the story. The story missions are great, the minigames you use to fill up your respect meter are challenging and engaging (though somewhat disgusting), and running around killing people in any weird manner is just as fun as it ever was.

I went back and started playing the original Saints Row because I wanted to see what it was like, and man ... the differences are antagonizing.

Shame i can't pre order on steam, i could have sworn this was on the steam store ages ago, i remember watching the trailer on there, now when i search it only comes up with the 2nd one..

I guess i could pre-order a physical copy but then i have to wait for it to be delivered rather than having it preloaded.
I have a preorder from Steam, so you should be able to get it.

Here's a link: http://store.steampowered.com/app/55230/

It may not show up on the search (my best guess is you probably used "III" or 3 instead of "the Third"), but it's up on the Coming Soon tab on the store front page.

Yes, I go get the idea that Volition are getting crazier over time.
Saints Row 1 was decent but really straight, and not that great in my opinion.
Saints Row 2 was getting pretty wacky, but still with a sense of reality in it. And also a lot better than 1.
And it seems that 3 has gone completely batshit bananas, and I like it!
Pre-ordered it already and this will be a blast!

usually i just type saints row, thanks for the link but at the minute it looks like it's unavailable to the UK through steam, maybe it's because of that thing with the game stores here wanting to get the game first and steam getting it a month later cause all i get is..

Saint's Row 3 has gone from a "meh, GTA ripoff continues" game to, with each weirder and weirder trailer, just possibly a game I might have to buy on day one. It looks almost like an Amricanized Suda51 special....

Looks mental. Love it. I like how realism goes out the window and they are just doing what ever they regardless of how silly it is. As long as its fun then us games will enjoy playing it. I liked GTA, but prefer Saints Row overall. Mostly that in Saints Row you could have ongoing fire fights with the police and army while you escaped them. In GTA anything over 2 stars and you were screwed and had to make a mad dash to escape the Kamikaze police tactics - which was so unbelievable.

Wasn't the last Saints Row game supposed to be about some gang? Meh, I guess it fits that they've gone completely crazy. Look what happened between Red Faction: Guerilla and Armageddon.

Now this is a reality show I can enjoy! We need more of these! Who needs all that drama crap when you can have action and violence in your reality?

@above- You can pre-order it on steam, I just went to the page where it is and you can pre-order it.

I want to pre-order it so badly, but the port to the computer of Saints Row 2 was... less then optimal.
I would expect something different here. 2's PC port was done by a different company than Volition. Volition is handling both console and PC versions for the Third.
Considering Volition's habit of giving players what they want, I have a feeling they listened to the PC players about where 2 was off.

Do want, but a part of my brain is going "Meh, they're just flailing around because they know their baby comes out four days after Skyrim."

I know both games are totally unrelated, but it does have a certain air of "NOTICE THIS GAME, PLZPLZPLZPLZ, BUY IT NAO!" in the face of what might be another gaming giant to come out this year. In comparison, Skyrim's marketing campaign feels rather dull.

Still, hoping it does well. I enjoyed what the gameplay trailer showed.

Anyone else here that would watch "Profesor Genki's Super Ethical Reality Climax" if it was actually on tv?

Pat Sharp would host.

Obscure Brit tv referance there.
