No. You're honestly trying to tell me that they're NOT making this game for money? I don't care about their poor decisions, they're not making this game to give it away.
Of course they are trying to make money, but so what?

Rarely have I ever encountered a game that people claimed was a "soulless" cash grab and not liked it and ended up saying so.

Most recent of which was Dragon Age 2, which is one of the best and favorite games I have played this year.

I have never got the whole "Boo-hoo-hoo-hoo, a company is being all stupid trying to make money." Of course companies are trying to make money, it is what they do. If you disagree with their practices, don't buy the game, they aren't making you.

They would have to totally change SC5 to make me hate it.

Example: Instead of fighting with swords, every character fights with hands made of different kinds of cheeses, and everybody wears tricorne hats with different cats sitting on top of them.

Yes while as hilarious as that sounds, I would still be somewhat pissed.

I have played all of the Soul Calibur games, and I like them all. It thought SC4 was awesome, especially the character creation system. My friend was best at making characters, I especially liked his Sean Connery and Patrick Stewart(as Picard) characters.

I also loved making my blue wizard that used Mitsurugi's fighting style, with a the wizard hat on top of a blue afro, and also wearing a monocle(because we all know that all wizards where monocles).

It was hilarious when he got his hat knocked off, because it would be like "phoomp!" and the afro would come out. And I would say, "Oh you done it now, you made the Fro angry!!"

The only things that's putting me off about the core gameplay is the fact that characters seem to have "super moves" now. This here blog written by one of the top female players in the world [http://kayane.fr/2011/08/30/soul-calibur-v-first-impressions-of-the-demo/] gives some details about system changes and whatnot.

I have a few gripes with the artistic direction (like how all of fucking 2 of the returning characters seemed to have actually aged), but they're entirely subjective so I won't waste anybody's time with that.

I still have my copy of Soul Calibur 2 for the GameCube. Until such a day comes when they manage to make a better fighting game than that i won't be interested.

Also... No Darth Vader? NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
Sorry... had to.

What. The. Frak.

No Kilik.
No Xianghua.
No Setsuka.
No Zasalamel.

My 4 favorite characters whipped out. Misturugi and Seigfreid are not enough to keep me interested.

Misturugi with the prayer beads and Asteroth with the power nodes looks cool.
Still Don't care. Not interested in new characters.*

*Put a Native American in an we'll talk.

Soul Calibur 3 was almost perfect.

A great story mode, the Tale of Swords mode was AMAZING, and it was our first go at create-a-soul.

There were two problems, skin color on create-a-soul was stupid. You couldn't make a black character no matter how much you wanted. The other was a wonky AI that would let you pound mercilessly on a foe one moment and then block your every move and execute crippling counter attacks the next. The latter was made worse by the fact that you couldn't change the difficultly in any of the meaningful game modes.

Soul Calibur 4 was a steaming turd in comparison despite addressing those two problems.

Meh, it doesn't actually look all that different from SCIV. The characters look uninteresting, so hopefully there are bitchin' extras. Personally, I liked the character creation aspect of 3 and 4 the best.

Hmmm, looks like it's a graphics update with new characters/levels and possibly some other stuff. Because Astaroth moved nearly exactly like in SC IV. Still, I'll probably check it out, have had plenty of fun with SC IV. And since it's obvious Tira's making it back in.

Eh, looks exactly like my Soul Calibur 2 (with the same classic moves and all) and slightly better graphics.
What's "new and improved"? (I have hardly played III, and IV not at all, so someone, please tell me).

I skipped through it, but I did not see Nightmare? What the fuck is this?
I saw Siegfried but no Nightmare.

Still, there were a few characters I didn't spot, perhaps they're just saving them for another trailer?
Nightmare needs to have his own trailer. And he needs to look newer and shiner than any other character. NIGHTMARE FTW!
Its still a rumour but im very positive that Sophitia and Nightmare are one now, and she'll be the main villain. Thatll come out in a trailer closer to release i imagine.

Also they seem to have replaced Taki with American Taki. Why?

...
because taki would be too old (no, dont ask my why she cant use some demon hunter magic to keep her young like Ivy's alchemy keeps her young, i dont know). Supposedly this girl is taki's apprentice, so she'll play like her.
But why does she have to be a blonde American? Who, let's be honest, seems to have the exact same body and face as Taki anyway.
Perhaps... CONSPIRACY!
Also that Petrolcheese fella? I loathe him. Instantly.
I cant stand Natsu either, shell be replaced with a custom character before the announcer can say "Soulcalibur... ... ...Five!"
She looks amazingly fun to use though. Much better than Taki, despite the similarities.

People in these threads need to stop complaining. Its waaaaay before release at this point, so of course its not polished to perfection yet.
Yes, some of the characters are annoying, but theyre bits of tinsle that you can replace with your own via character creation... bits of tinsle that have no effect on gameplay.
Its clear theyre trying hard to add new gameplay elements, to make this more interesting than SCIV. Additionally, theyve already said theyre making sure theres enough single player content and provided at least 1 picture of a story mode similar to SCII's.

You need to keep informed, and think about things from a gameplay perspective.
Viola's crystal ball makes for some interesting traps for example.
Look at Natsu's amazing mind games. (She can interrupt several attacks with teleports)
Try talking about what effect Brave/Critical Edge and Just Guard, aswell as the changes to Guard Impact will have on the gameplay.
Try thinking about how much faster this is compared to SCIV.

Yoshimitsu or no deal...Also fix the sword pogo so that I don't go into mantis mode when I want to bounce around and generally be as annoying as possible. Thanks!

She's not a blonde American. She's Japanese. It's just that when you put a demon in a Japanese person their hair turns blonde. Naruto proved this scientifically. Believe it! Also you have not been paying enough attention to video game character's bodies. I can only envy you. But Natsu has a pretty dramatically different build than Taki. Not as much muscle for one thing. Much smaller boobs for another. Much Much smaller. I'd think that one would be apparent due to the lack of flopping.

Petrolcheese is Sophitia's son. You are free to loathe him.

No Xianghua.
You're getting her daughter, Leixia. Probably because "crybaby" would look odd coming from a woman in her 40's.

Okay...

1) Pyrhha looks like yet another Cassandra/Sophitia character
Looks like she's outright replacing Sophitia. Same style. It's not like the roster's over loaded though. There's no sign of Cass or Sophi yet and with two sword and boarders it seems unlikely. Sad thing is though there's no replacement for Cassy like there is for Sophitia, so if you preferred her style you seem to be out of luck.

I'll say first off, sorry I didnt respond to this till now. I wasnt sure if I wanted to, and when i decided i did, I wanted to try and make it a logical reason and not just come off as sounding like a hating fan boy.
Not at all.

maybe once I play with it, i may like it, but I just dont care for the way I've seen it so far.
Eh, so long as you're willing to keep an open mind you'll probably enjoy the game that much more.

Well viola's not a guest character, she's just a new one. so far as I know, guest characters havent been announced yet.
They have said there will be one guest character and it will be on both platforms. Who it is they have not divulged.

So thats what you can sum it up as. The potential to fuck up a character, and fucking up established story. If shes not amy, then yeah, my argument is unfounded. But if she is, then Im just saying I guess.
Yeah, well brace yourself for the worst because I suspect it is gonna be Amy.

I might add man that you seem like a fan of the series. Mods don't hate me but you might wanna check out:
http://8wayrun.com/
there will be a lot of people there you can discuss these things with, they keep up on all the news and when the game comes out they'll show you how to play and provide you with plenty of people to play against. The current "Hate speech" column (by tournament vet Brianhatesyou) would probably feel personally addressed to you. It's on the subject of change and it talks about some of the system changes coming.

you could say Im a fan, I've been with it since it was SE, and really it was one of the few games that justified owning a dreamcast. honestly... this will probably be my last SC game. I dont like the way daishi is doing things, the story just seems like it doesnt need to go on, and with all the potential to the ruin characters even worse, I may just cut ties and move on.

I just want to pick it up to have one more SC game, and because as much as I find myself against the game, pyrrah and a few others keep making me come back. Plus the C-a-S. And I have a fan character i want to see realized that just wouldnt make sense in SC IV. but SC V is the perfect reason to give birth to Sedat Soleran. His father <url=http://soulcalibur.wikia.com/wiki/FanChar%3AErafael%3ATenlo>Tenlo and mother <url=http://soulcalibur.wikia.com/wiki/FanChar%3AErafael%3AAdelyn>Adelyn rose in SC IV, Sedat will carry the flame into SC V.

Plus after that I'd be all squared up in something else Im working on completely independent of SC.

EDIT: and if it turns out that viola is amy, Im just going to have my own case of amnesia and project so hard I could point myself at a wall and show off powerpoint presentations.

Where is Yoshimitsu... he is the reason I enjoy Soul Calibur, no namu = no fun. Still is nice to see them do something new with the series with a 17 year time-skip.
