Oooo, another great game series; Metroid Prime.

Wow, was the scanning mechanic aweful. I love having to pause during the middle of each fight to make sure I scanned every possible new thing so I could get the good ending. I'm all for scanning for fun or for an achievment but making the ending be based upon scanning? Really? All this does is force players who care enough about the game to want to see the good ending stop and pause in every area of the game to make sure they didn't miss ANYTHING. This took a game which is very fun and turned it into a monotomous affair.

Legend of Zelda, Ocarina of Time had really bogus pacing, and really isn't any fun to replay.

Pokemon (original) lacked balance in a painful way.

Bioware needs to learn how to motion capture faces and emotions.

KotoR I & II need completely revamped combat engines. KotoR needs a more memorable plot outside of act 3. KotoR II needed to be taken back to the drawing board.

Silent hill 2 has some less than desirable voice acting at times (Laura in particular sounds pretty monotonous). Also, on the XBox version (though it might just be 'cause I play it on the 360) it's really difficult to get James to do the alternate attack.

in Bioshock there is practically no penalty for death, making the game very easy no matter what (unless u turn off the respawn tubes, but that hardly fixes the issue does it)
also on my second playthrough i noticed stealth practically breaks the game. with a few select tonics (sports boost 1&2, camouflage, wrench jockey, wrench lurker etc) was nigh undetectable. and if i DID get seen, i was able to just run around a corner, create a dummy and stand around for three second and bam, i never existed.

plus if you take a picture of every enemy you see, by fort frolic you'll be pretty much invincible, instant hacking bots especially.

and don't get me started on hacking...

(PS bioshock is just ONE of my favorite games, i don't really have a favorite)

Morrowind had a realistic but ultimately IMMENSELY IRRITATING stamina system. When Tribunal came along, it was used as a testing ground for Oblivion's enclosed cities mechanic, which makes it practically pure evil. Oh, and... Cliff Racers...

Also, it was missing two great houses and a whole landmass, and the original graphics were not great. Some spells were largely useless and the fact that polearms were not attached to any classes meant nobody ever used them, despite the fact that they were cool.

Though not as much as Oblivion, it had a lot of bugs and you'd be lucky if it told you what caused its latest CTD. Oh, and no manual blocking.

Some of the climbing in Assassin's Creed 2 is bullshit and sucks, why the hell is running and climbing the same button? The lute players are annoying as hell, and the timed running trials were an exercise in frustration.

This topic is more important than most people think. Your favorite game has real flaws, and not all of them are subjective either. Recognize them and be a thoughtful gamer, or ignore them and be MovieBo-- er, a fanboy.

I'm going to do two of my favorite games: Portal and Final Fantasy 6.

PORTAL

Who the hell designs a portal making gun and expects test subjects to use it and solve vast test chambers without attaching a freaking scope to it?

FINAL FANTASY 6

It's too bad Terra was a confused but utterly NON-suicidal NON-emo Mage-Knight in this game, because people who play Dissidia before FF6 will be all confused as to why she isn't freaking Cinderella in the story and a dainty magician in combat. Yes that was sarcasm.

Every character should have had a selection of at least 8 unique, character-specific abilities, instead of just Edgar, Sabin, Cyan, Gau, Mog, Strago, and Relm (via Sketch/Control).

Sword Tech/Bushido was a *horrible* idea. Yeah, let's make moves that require me to wait, leave me party open (unless under the effects of Quick, in which I have better options anyway), and can be used instantly only when Cyan is confused! Thanks for CLEAVING MY ENTIRE PARTY CYAN.

It's fun to try and break games but it can go too far. Vanish/Doom. Quick (which makes a joke of every boss in every version of the game). Ridiculous evasion levels for Terra/Celes with the right gear. And more.

The second half of the game needed way more story, and should have had various smaller groups converging, instead of just Celes gathering people up.

Way too many collectibles, and way too many can be missed permanently. Tools, Blitzes, Rages (oh god), Lores (OH GAWD).

Shadow is wildly overrated, both in gameplay and in character. Nobody cares, sad ninja.

The combat in Diablo II was just holding down a button over the thing you wanted to be dead. Booooooo.

And also, the... um...

There were some glitches? I think there might have been some glitches. Maybe.

Far Cry 2.

Where do I start? Respawning guard posts, near-invincible enemies, malaria was scrappy as all hell, and guns jam like crazy.

But dammit, I love that game.

Another:

CLASSIC DOOM

The handgun is 99% useless once you get the chaingun... but has one situational use (when you want to fire ONLY one bullet) which means you can't just replace it with the gun that's superior in every other way.

Enemies with attacks that didn't immediately hit you were painfully easy to beat, including the dreaded Cyberdemon. On the flip side, the only way to really tackle a high health enemy that does have instant travel projectiles, like the Spider Mastermind, is to play the cover game and/or lure it into a fight with other mobs.

Homefront

I'm very disappointed with the fact that Kaos Studios (the developers) didn't address the issue of "massacre fatigue" (killing human enemies without realizing you're killing humans) by showing the Koreans are just as human as Americans. The only part they did this was when...

...in the second to last level, when the main character is fighting American "survivalists" (read: white extremists/separatists), a captured Korean soldier was pinned onto a Wheel of Death [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wheel_of_death_%28Impalement_arts%29] to be used as target practice begged the main character to kill him. Arguably, throughout level there were similar scenes such as a Korean digging his own grave and then being shot and two more being used as slave labor, not to mention all the lynched Korean soldiers done Jim Crow style.

I was expecting so much more. I wanted the choice of outright killing Koreans or sneaking past them and just completing the missions. I wanted to hide from a patrol in a sewer grate with the Korean-American whispering to me what the Koreans were talking about, maybe something about the guy's mother. I wanted to see how a Korean soldier behaved when captured and interrogated. I wanted to sneak beneath a Korean barracks while they're getting drunk and smoking and playing cards and dancing and playing loud music. I wanted to see Americans teaching Korean soldiers English. I wanted to see a Buddhist Korean soldier praying for the dead. I wanted to see Korean officers punishing lower Korean soldiers. I wanted to see a picture of a Korean family inside the helmet of the guy I just headshot. I wanted to see a cat following a Korean soldier and checkpoint guards feeding a dog. But most of all, I wanted to see Korean soldiers drag wounded soldiers, and make you hesitate to shoot them. And I wanted to see Americans used real guerilla tactics: I wanted to see suicide bombings, I.E.Ds, and trip wires.

Damn you kids make me feel old...

Origional X-Com:
Why the hell can't your troopers lay down?
And why is full auto more accurate than Aimed fire?
And why the &$*@#@$ do your weapon mags get tossed even if you fire one round in a mission? Seriously, X-Com has a worse recycling program than a McDonalds.
Also...what kind of dumb civilian decides that running TOWARDS the aliens who are slaughtering your neighbors and AWAY from the humans trying to kill the aliens is a good thing? A Yorkie?

Halo has terrible, terrible storytelling. Once you understand it, it's great, but the narrative itself is just crappy.
Agree with you completely. I did not enjoy the campaigns for that reason, and the fact I found them to be repetitively boring.

Pretend you're MovieBob. Then you can hate it for being a first person shooter and "Western."

S'more:

SONIC 3 AND KNUCKLES

Sonic got an awesome new redrawn sprite. Knuckles's sprite is awesome all around. Tails got screwed.

Glitches can be fun. And frustrating. This game has many of both.

Playing as Super/Hyper characters through the levels isn't fun, and it shouldn't be so easy to transform after getting the emeralds.

When Sonic turns into Hyper Sonic, how come Tails doesn't turn into Super Tails?

Super Tails's Super Flickies steal his air bubbles.

Instead of Knuckles having harder levels, there should have been a Hard Mode.

FINAL FANTASY 10

I hated how Tidus was just a crappier version of Wakka.

Kinda weird how so many enemy groups were comprised of enemies that just happened to be weak to particular party members.

If a character dies, his spot shouldn't just be a lost cause. I should be able to replace that spot with one of my backup characters.

The game shouldn't have had a sequel.

KIRBY SUPER STAR

Masahiko Sakurai's daddy complex would manifest later in Smash Bros. Brawl, where the addition of tripping, a game mechanic that objectively adds no depth (the preceding was not an opinion), and BS unlockables would make it very, very hard to go back to Super Star and enjoy it... knowing where it will lead.

The VC version should have had the DS version extras.

The above applies to all VC versions of games.

SUPER CASTLEVANIA 4

Slogra is a dick.

The way Persona 4 handled its endings. It was extremely difficult to avoid the Neutral Ending and neigh impossible to get the True without a guide. That is pretty inexcusable.

Oblivion
You're fat and ugly, get the hell away and leave me be Captain Picard.

Arcanum
My revolver does crap damage and this push over comes in during my fast travel, dashes some pixie dust and my whole party drops dead. Great difficulty curve guys.

Counter Strike Source
Despite contrary belief, you have two maps, De Dust 2 and Office. Also you're first person shooter and "Western"
