I'm about to watch The Raid, I've just been revising for a long time so I'm rewarding myself with a easy-going film you don't have to think about.
Sometimes you are just in the mood to watch some nonsense, my choices are Drive, Hamburger Hill and Django. What are yours?

Ah revision, something I should be doing right now. I think I'll just do 12 hours tomorrow.

Machete. It's very fucking good but often it gets called shit because of the effects, which were totally awesome. Okay, I suppose it is a little 'trashy' in terms of nudity and violence. Also Tekken, 4.8 rating on IMDB what? It's awesome. I'm not really sure what you mean by trashy sorry.

I don't know Hamburger Hill but I wouldn't call any of the other films you mentioned "trashy" in a thousand years. How on Earth is Drive or Django "some nonsense"? The Raid also offers some very competent action and is definitely not a bad film, either.

In any case, I watched The Russian Terminator/Ninja recently and it turned out to be surprisingly entertaining.

Well it kind of depends on your definition of trashy...I like to think of these movies are having character :D

They're also the best movies ever and anyone who says different is a dirty dirty liar!

Army of Darkness
Groovy

If you've ever wondered why Bruce Campbell is considered the sexy geek beast of a man that he is, watch this movie and you will learn. Hilarious movie with a plot so ridiculous that it has to be seen as awesome. In one hand is his boomstick and his other hand is a chainsaw. What's not to love?

Starship Troopers
Would you like to know more?

Blood and dismemberment everywhere!!!! Not only is it a great movie but it's a fairly smart satire if you're paying attention. Also, Neil Patrick Harris is in it! Sure...he only gets like, fifteen minutes of film time but still, NPH! Giant bugs have attacked Earth and therefore the only good bug is a dead bug!

Boondock Saints 1 and 2
In Nomeni Patri Et Fili Spiritus Sancti

I have bought these movies so many times that I may have single handedly given them the money to make Boondock Saints 3. Saints 1 is one of the best revenge movies ever and, while it seems you either love or hate Saints 2, I personally loved it and welcome it with open arms. I also believe that (at least the first one) opens an interesting discussion on justice versus the law.

Go see all four of these movies for they are all awesome. You will thank me later.

I was ready to jump into this thread, but I really need to question this.
I don't think Drive is nonsense, it's just extremely subtle with a couple moments of visceral violence.

Command decided to do some R&R with Dark Souls...

That wasn't a good R&R decision :(

All well.

I freaking LOVE the Starship Troopers movies. I read the book. I LOVED Starship Troopers 1. I...*sigh...Starship Troopers 2; I pretend never happened for it was possibly the worst movie ever so it doesn't really exist I've decided. It was like a shitty knock-off of Species and Species wasn't a great movie to begin with! Starship Troopers 3 was awesome even if the CGI bugs look like ass! The animated TV show was...it wasn't terrible but removing the gore from Starship Troopers is like removing the Yippie-Kay-Yah mother fucker from Die Hard! I own but I haven't watched the newest CGI movie but I am cautiously optimistic that it will be awesome.

I named my World of Warcraft guy (for the two months I played) and my Knights of the Old Republic (for the one month I played it) Klendathu and was very disappointed that no one I ran into ever got the damn reference!

I'm not really sure what qualifies as trashy, but I love dumb low-budget action movies. Just a couple weeks ago, I watched a direct to DVD Steve Austin and Steven Seagal movie. Everything about it was bad, but I enjoyed it.

Great idea for a topic, but I wouldn't really consider either Drive or Django trashy. (I've never seen Hambuger Hill) I think you need to watch some actual trashy B-movies, to understand gratuitous violence for no other reason than having gratuitous violence.

I will suggest Dead-Alive (or Brain-Dead depending on where you live). That is a fun movie that I would consider trashy

Constantine.

The plot is complete tripe and Keanu Reeves is the most cardboard and shapeless person to ever be selected to play John Constantine and it feeds into my completely legitimate and justifiable hatred of Shia LeBeouf and no its totally not a complex and I would ask you to kindly stop judging my judgment of human garbage--

But I just.

Keep.

Watching it.

Anytime time it is ever on.

I have intellectual omnipresence for this film, and as a film major it is my greatest guilty pleasure.

Hey, I didn't think Drive or Django were trashy.

Anyway.

One that I like that could be considered trashy would be Bunraku.
It's way over-stylized and choreographed more than the prequel Star Wars lightsaber fights but it does that on purpose and that's what makes it so cool. It falls a little flat in the story department but like I said, it's all about visual flair and it's pulling a bit of star power too.

And I'm going to call this one early, Pacific Rim.
It's going to be so stupid but it's going to be fun. It's also going to give me a heart attack with how crazy it is but that's semi-unrelated.
I could be wrong, it might fool me with a really good story but as of right now, I stand by "stupid-fun".

Films that I would consider 'trashy' but also awesome:

Toxic Avenger
Teeth
Class of Nuke 'Em High
Reanimator
Planet Terror
Ghoulies
Conan The Barbarian(the original)
Commando
Running Man
Death Wish 1,2 and 3
The Abominable Dr Phibes
Tenebre
Suspiria
Man with the screaming brain
Horror in the attic(also known as The Attic Expeditions)

Plus a whole heap of others, I love trashy films.

How is Hamburger Hill a trashy movie? It's pretty solid, as far as war movies go, and had a great gritty-as-fuck feel to it which Platoon lacked.

I'd second Starship Troopers. While the 2nd and 3rd movies were abysmally awful, the first is a lot of fun. It was actually a childhood favourite of mine, so I do get some nostalgia from it too.

I would also like to point out that two of the three "trashy" films you listed were nominated for Oscars.

I suppose "trashy" is in the eye of the beholder, but many would consider those films to have great substance.

Sucker Punch. It's a narrative mess and is full of pseudo feminist themes that make it even more sexist, but I don't care. This movie is a window right into Zack Snyder's crazy mind and I want more.

How has nobody mentioned the Room yet? That movie is the ultimate trashy movie I both love and detest it at the same time. Also Equilibrium which is full of symbolism and ridiculous action that is so much fun to watch.

If you think "Drive" is trashy, you need to find a new definition for the word.

OT: The Boondock Saints

And shepherd's we shall be, for thee my lord for thee. Power hath descended from thy hand, so that we may swiftly carry out thy command. And we shall flow like a river to thee, and teeming with souls shall it ever be.

E Nomini Patri

Et Filli

Spirictus Sancti

(10 plus Internet points for not looking it up)

I know it's got a goofy name, but why do you consider Hamburger Hill a "trashy" movie? I think it's one of the better war movies out there, and is right up there with Platoon as greatest Vietnam films.
