Just recently read an article confirming the speculation; looks like treyarch is going into 'Nam for the latest installment in the CoD Franchise.
Thoughts?

I think it'll be interesting to go from WWII to Modern Warfare to somewhat-modern warfare. Sure, the Vietnam war still had AKs, M16s and M60s so it won't be completely like going back to the stone age as many have assumed. Not to mention the first M16 version (often referred to as the "Mattel 16" for it's flimsy design) will be interesting; I hope they make it accurately suckish. From documentaries I've seen, apparently American troops HATED the first M16.

And online. I can imagine it being fairly balanced; we'll still see plenty of stuff from MW like weapons and such. Killstreaks could range from Blackhawk gunners to Guerrilla attacks?
And for the record, this is all speculation.
(No CoD h8 plz)

well the reason american troops hated the m16 was because they mechanisms weren't well designed and the springs were very strong, they would jam from just about anything, including the standard issue magazines, with 30 rounds in them the spring were compressed too tightly and would force rounds into the chamber too quickly causing a jam. Also the smalleest amount of dirt would jam them, not to mention the fact that they could just break. Yeah not a particularly good weapon in the begeinning

but anyway

I thik they game could be good in my opinion there aren't enough games about vietnam for how big the conflict was and how involved we were I feel as though it's been slighted.

Granted it was also a boring and miserable war. not to mention all the traps and excrutiating ways to die.

meh we'll see CoD can be good and it can be bad, we'll see hwo they manage to pull this one off

It would be interesting to see a mission on the "No Russian" end of things.
I think it would be interesting to play as VC troops fighting in guerrilla warfare.

Sweet. I was sick of WW2 and Present/Near Future wars.

This is new. This is different. (Yes, I know they have been a few Vietnam games before, but not enough, and not in a long time, well except for Shellshock 2.)

GO TREYARCH! And keep the campaign co-op.

I'm going to put my money down on the table and call the shock and awe that, Actionvision will no doubt put in the game to propel sales. Will involve depicting the Americans as the bigger douches, by having you drop Clouds of Clock Work orange, and Napalm on heavily Civilian populations to kill the small VC that are suspected to be there on little more then a 15 minute notice. As for the game, I'll buy it if only because I prefer Vietnam to all the other wars in America's History. (Except 1812, god I love hearing a good Nova Scotia burning the White House to the ground story)

A new idea?!
It's so foreign....

Here's to hoping there's coop.

Of course they were looking at subscription-based payment. So, unfortunately, this might be a skip for me.

I can guarantee there will be booby traps in multiplayer, and if so, the next most commonly said phrase in CoD7 online will be:

"ITS A TRAP!!!"

or...

"U USED A CH3AP @$$ TR@P U N0000B!!111"

Wonder if they'll engage in a more stealthy guerilla warfare style?
Hope it's more realistic than MW2.

The dense foliage and jungle areas will make very good cover situations, and flanking opportunities if done right. Oh, I want to be the first to call a situation where Agent Orange will be greatly involved.

Vietnam, due to it's terrain is an area that only until now couldn't really be done convincingly, but I'm intrigued to see what happens.

On the other hand, it's another example Treyarch getting to use innovations Infinity Ward brought out.

Bit late my friend, already called it..only my bet is it'll be napalm to avoid the Agent Orange controversy.

Also, I can't wait to spout off Top Gun, A Team, and Black Hawk Down references in the online multiplayer. :>

Please, let there be Vietcong zombies.
It doesen't even need to involve the Vietcong, so long as it involves Zombies and is made by Treyarch, i'll play it.

I.
Want.
My.
M60.
Back.

MW2 lacked the M60, so we better get the squad portable version in the game.
NOT (and I repeat *NOT*) just the mounted version. Cuz that would just suck to ONLY be able to use the M60 mounted.

From the article:

...and takes particular influence from classic movies Apocalypse Now and Platoon.
This angers me. Why not take 'particular' influence from, you know, the war itself? There are plenty of first-hand accounts and war footage out there to avoid the embellishing of Hollywood for production reasons. I remember hearing some IW employee mention that while COD4's campaign was meant to be a realistic depiction of modern warfare, they made MW2's to be 'cinematic'. Which did you like more?
