You know what the funny thing is? This actually reminds me of a game called Vietcong that I used to play. Freaking awesome.
haha I loved that game I used to play that all the time

that game was absoutely amazing incredibly well desgined and implemented especially for HL1 mod

the worst part about it were the buggy choppers that occasionally dropped you and you couldn't hit anyone when you were in but all vehichles in HL1 were buggy

ahhh good times good times indeed

They should make McCain a playable character
Ah, but he was a pilot.

If you call in an airstrike it should be "Lieutenet John McCain reporting, that airstrike request is an affirmative. Incoming" XD

Not to mention the first M16 version (often referred to as the "Mattel 16" for it's flimsy design) will be interesting; I hope they make it accurately suckish. From documentaries I've seen, apparently American troops HATED the first M16.
Yea I remember seeing clips of troops saying they had to use their issued condoms on the tip of the barrel of their M16s otherwise they would break.

But yea looking forward to a Vietnam setting solely for the single player experience since I'm guessing multiplayer will be kind of like World at War's but with CoD4's weaponry.

I definatly think that it's a step in the right direction. I'm tired of the same old WWII senario we've all seen a hundred times.

Who else thinks that there'll be some controversy in this game? This is a war that is only to 2nd to Koren that is hard in people's minds.

On that point, are there any big titles that take place during the Koren war?

From the article:

...and takes particular influence from classic movies Apocalypse Now and Platoon.
This angers me. Why not take 'particular' influence from, you know, the war itself? There are plenty of first-hand accounts and war footage out there to avoid the embellishing of Hollywood for production reasons. I remember hearing some IW employee mention that while COD4's campaign was meant to be a realistic depiction of modern warfare, they made MW2's to be 'cinematic'. Which did you like more?
MW2's, actually. I liked it because it was ridiculous and stupid (moreso than in the first game). I mean, if you have a medium as flexible as a video game, where you can create any setting and any plot, why have it stick to life as we know it? Why not make the settings and plots crazy? I live here; why do I want to play a game that imitates where I am all the time? This also applies to sports games.
Alright good point, I can respect that view. But fr a historical war like Vietnam (e.g. actual events), I think sticking to the facts, not Hollywood, would be best.

Any way, anyone else think this is gonna be too much like the Pacific missions from WaW meets MW? I mean, helicopters, AC-130s, M-16s, M60s, etc were all used in Vietnam...

I agree with you there. If you have to have a game based on a real war, you shouldn't use sources that drew from the war. You should use the war itself as a source.

From documentaries I've seen they said the first batch of M16s used or tested with were sabotaged cause the military didn't feel like having to reissue weaponry if the current armament was sufficient.

OT: Eew, Treyarch. I'll rent it first, if it looks good that is.

This might be interesting, if only becuase were moveing away from WW2.
plus how many Vietnam games are there?
*counts on one hand*

Battlefield Vietnam, Shellshock, Shellshock 2 (now with Vietnamese zombies in THE MAIN PLOT)...and uh. that's it?
Don't forget Men Of Valor.
Oh, and Vietcong.
That's five. One more finger left on this hand.
Oh, allright.
WAIT WHAT?!
Umm... Umm... Vietcong 2?
Okay. 6. That's one hand down.
Daargh.
Elite Warriors: Vietnam?
Shit...7 games. Some I'm onto my second hand...But you see my point. Few MAJOR game releases utilized this setting.
Yeah, I know, I'm just showing off now.
*wags 6 fingered hand at you*
[sarcasm] You're just jealous of my SUPERIOR gaming knowledge. [/sarcasm]
You mean the internet?
Excuse me?
I mean "gaming knowledge" as in "gaming knowledge".
o_O

Wow. You know too much about obscure games.
More like shooter games.
It just so happens that I know a lot of them.

(Yes, I know they have been a few Vietnam games before, but not enough, and not in a long time, well except for Shellshock 2.)
Gah, only they could fuck up Vietnam with zombies.

Though I do think it would be intense to step into a forest and see the bullets start to fly.
Especially when I throw my men in front of me to save myself Charge into the jungle with a wounded partner on my back to the ending theme of Dawn of the Dead.
[sub]Stop looking at me like that. I can dream.[/sub]

So Treyarch finally moved from World War II?

But this looks good, not a whole lot of Vietnam games out there, I'll probably get it when it comes out.

Yay! I love Treyarch and this is just really exciting. World at War was really fun, so I look forward to this.

Oh boy, a game completely devoted to avoiding grenade spam in the jungles of southeast Asia. This'll be exciting.

Treyarch seems to approach their games with all the ham-handedness of... well... Infinity Ward.

Great. Pretty sure I'm going to pass on this one.
