If done well, looks like it'll be a fun game. Provided they don't go down the 'rush release, glitchy game' route of MW2's multiplayer. Personally, WaW's campaign was fantastic.(I found the characters likeable and the story great)

I hope Treyarch don't decide to make one gun *cough*MP40*cough* ridiculously overpowered like they did in World at War.

Im not sure it'll be very good. I'm hoping it'll be good but I fear the worst.

My main gripe with every Vietnam game I've played so far - or indeed any game with trees - is that the 'cover' system is perpetually broken. You cannot see through trees and you can't easily shoot what you can't see. The AI on the other hand can 'see' fine through cover and shoot you with unerring accuracy.

Even in Call of Duty: World at War, whenever there was long grass I found it very frustrating. I'd be getting shot at by Japanese troops I couldnt see, I ducked into the grass to take cover but continued to take fire. Other times I'd be sneaking through long grass hoping to surprise the enemy and get shot regardless.

My point is that it's infuriating to be shot to ribbons by an enemy who has got the drop on you not because of their skill but because they effectively have X-Ray vision.

Considering the debacle that was Call of Duty:World at War I don't have very high hopes for this game.

It angers you? Look at it this way, those films were inspired by the war, so it isn't like there's a far-stretch of a link here. The movies were interesting settings with intriguing narrative, isn't that what you want in a game? I'm sure they can find a balance that will still make the game fun, just like previous installments.

http://kotaku.com/5469025/activision-has-call-of-duty-7-loaded-for-holiday

Given the "disproportionate contribution" that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 provided to Activision Blizzard's well-padded bottom line, it won't come as a surprise that the next Call of Duty game is coming this holiday season. See? You're not surprised.

Activision Blizzard confirmed its plans to "continue annualizing" the first-person shooter franchise with the still-unnamed seventh entry in the billion dollar Call of Duty series, offering little new info. But executives did talk briefly about the game's release window and their desire to see some subscription-style revenue from the series.

"If you think about the successes we have had in other categories on subscriptions, you can get a sense of the direction we want to take that franchise," Activision CEO Bobby Kotick said during today's quarterly earnings call, not specifying exactly when it planned to take such steps.

Execs expected a less "friendly" release window in 2010 than the one that Modern Warfare 2 had in 2009, when publishers, including Activision, shifted games from the fourth quarter to the next year.

While Activision Blizzard brass did not name the developer of the next major Call of Duty game, developer Treyarch has been linked to the next iteration.
Activision had survey a while back on how such a "Subscription Service" could look, here's some of the questions:
http://bulk2.destructoid.com/ul/135924-rumortoid-activision-creating-a-service-for-call-of-duty/CoDsubscrip01-noscale.jpg
http://bulk2.destructoid.com/ul/135924-rumortoid-activision-creating-a-service-for-call-of-duty/CoDsubscrip02-noscale.jpg
http://bulk2.destructoid.com/ul/135924-rumortoid-activision-creating-a-service-for-call-of-duty/CoDsubscrip03-noscale.jpg
I looked at those links and all the services they are considering range from them trying to make us pay an additional fee for things most shooter games provide us with for free (character customization, icons and the ability to put things on our shields, and of course actual stat tracking) to them trying to make us pay a subscription fee for things already in the game (the ability to customize weapons and whatever else it listed.)

No.

I am a little happy to be able to say even most CoD fans wouldn't put up with that. The game might still sell well but it would lose a substantial amount of sales, especially with MW2 still being fairly new and Bad Company 2 being on the way. This might make me sound petty but I almost want them to try it just so that it can backfire completely.

This is just your average every day half assed "business math", where they take something that applies to one product and try to apply it to another completely different one (WoW makes them a good amount of revenue, so it only makes sense that applying a similar fee to CoD would make them even more /sarcasm)

Ooo, will completing the game give you a bonus level: Midlife Therapy?

But, in all seriousness, this could be the first COD game I'll buy in the many years since COD2. It'll be interesting to see what direction Treyarch will take.

If there's subscription, well, I'll have none of that thank you very much.

Sounds like it has potential to be decent.

I don't really understand. Why are people claming they won't buy it just because 'Treyarch will screw it up', when Infinity Ward proved with MW2 that they are just as capable as Treyarch at creating a glitchy, unbalanced, plotholed, average game. I thought WaW was a very good single player, and the multiplayer was no more unbalanced than MW2. I'll probably end up buying it as long as all this subscription based crap doesn't come to fruition.

Press X to bludgeon innocent civilian #214 to death! Yeahhhhh!

Seriously though, if this game has a grain of realism, all the missions will focus on looking for VC, finding no VC, razing the place anyway, getting shot by 20 guys you can't see.

Of course, the game won't be like that, but it'll be chock full of the 'gritty realism' that I'm starting to get really tired of in games. But, of course, it won't be realism, just 'pretend' realism. If that makes sense.
Hate to be 'that guy' but this is a pretty ignorant explanation of the combat of the war. There were plenty of large engagements and huge battles. A whole game could be made out of just the tons of little battles making up Khe San: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_Khe_Sanh
Or heres The Battle of Hue, which was mainly intense urban action: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_Hue Also lends itself to a 'o Russian" type mission, as you could play as a VC massacreing thousands of innocent civilians.
Basically, my point is theres plenty of oppurtunity here. As for jungle warfare, it worked in WaW, so it should work here.

From documentaries I've seen, apparently American troops HATED the first M16.
There's a good reason it was immortalized as the worst assault rifle ever made. I don't think they've ever had jamming as a gameplay mechanic before, that could be interesting, especially if they want to nail that realism they were going for in COD WAW. Hmmm...

I can guarantee there will be booby traps in multiplayer, and if so, the next most commonly said phrase in CoD7 online will be:

"ITS A TRAP!!!"

or...

"U USED A CH3AP @$$ TR@P U N0000B!!111"
Knowing people's tendency to ***** about everything, it will be the latter. Even if the traps are in plain view and easily avoidable, they will still ***** about it being unfair.
And people think claymores are a pain.
We can assume the following shall be deemed "n00bish"

1. Killing Someone
2. Using Traps
3. Hiding in a bush
4. Using Camouflage
5. Killing Someone
6. Using the Flamethrower (assuming flamethrowers are present)
7. Using a gun
8. Killing someone
9. Using a knife
10. Using Commando Pro, Marathon Pro, and Lightweight Pro (KNOWING we'll still have those perks)
11. Killing Someone
Add:

12. Being in the Match
Add:

13: using kill streak rewards.

Will they have Dedicated servers in this game or do they completely rip-off MW2 just with different skins?

From the article:

This angers me. Why not take 'particular' influence from, you know, the war itself? There are plenty of first-hand accounts and war footage out there to avoid the embellishing of Hollywood for production reasons. MW2's, actually. I liked it because it was ridiculous and stupid (moreso than in the first game). I mean, if you have a medium as flexible as a video game, where you can create any setting and any plot, why have it stick to life as we know it? Why not make the settings and plots crazy? I live here; why do I want to play a game that imitates where I am all the time? This also applies to sports games.
