ok I love zombie games, but in my opinion, there aren't any true zombie games.
They have you simply killing zombies with huge weaponry - resident evil, house of the dead, left 4 dead, dead rising.

I want a zombie game that focuses on survival. Picture this, an open world, the size of gta 4's, with different types of zombies inhabiting it. There are grocery stores, gas stations, post offices, houses, shipyards, and everything else a city has. There are scattered survivors throughout the city, who have holed-up; you can help them, or kill them and take their supplies. There are cars you can use to get across the city.You must balance your hunger, thirst, and health, by keeping a supply of food, water, and med-kits. Think of playing this online with 16 people. Some might be holed-up in a house while 4 others go to a gas station to find some food and water.

I would love a game like this,
What are your thoughts?

Sounds like an RPG and as a general rule, if I don't have hours to throw away, I'll stay away. But concept wise, sounds pretty bad ass but I just can't help thinking setting up a base of operations, getting supplies, keeping the supplies with you, finding weapons, blah blah blah. All sounds pretty damn nitpicky.

Zombies arent that cool. And we already have enough zombie games...But if you really want one...mod Stalker so all of your enemies are zombies.

It sounds awesome-but it isnt a typical zombie game either. Sounds more like a desaster/apocalypticsurvivalhorror type of thing-mixture between fallout3, gta4 and dead rising...great concept, cool idea but in no way more zombie than RE ;)

You sir, are my hero. That is all I?ve been praying for. Anyway, I hear you out, a huge city with different types of zombies. No hordes, no crazy weapons; handheld items and maybe some pistols. It would be awesome. Maybe you could do a mission to earn gas for a car. Vroom Vroom!

It would be awesome to use gas in the game, like if the cars actually ran out, and you could use gas to start fires and make make-shift bombs.

This sounds cool, but you would also have judge the other playes from a distance, to see if they would just shoot you or not. Ths game sounds pretty immersive, the only major issue being little kids, spammers, hackers and the like, who could just blow the immersiveness to hell.

Maybe raid a police station... Get a shotgun....

Yeah, that could potentially ruin it, nothing ruins a game like someone screaming FAG,GAY, or the likes.

It's proably my dream game. My dad and I have good ideas like that. What about different cities, and each city has a different difficulty level ie.

London=Hard
Moscow=Normal
Sydney=Easy

It would have to be over the shoulder though.

I think a game like this would be better for single player than anything else (then you would get the feeling of being alone at the end of the world as we know it) along with (as others have said) the leigons of 'those guys' on the internet would just kill the experience (you would get some guys who just want to kill everything, allies included, those who are in the L4D mindset and throw a tantrum because no-one will hold their hand on the way to the bathroom and those who just play to get the achievements/unlockables).

Good concept and would be fun playing but that doesn't deny any 'real zombie game' status to stuff like HOTD, Resi and Dead Rising for being more blunt about their dead people.

All you are asking for is GTA, but instead of the pedestrians screaming as you hit them, they shout for brains or bite back, with a small amount of survival elements. Even what you're saying is unrealistic... if you want a realistic zombie game (oxymoron), you'd have to anticipate a slow, grueling battle.
Basically, 90% of people in a zombie apocalypse would be bunkering down, fighting off boredom and dementia, and rationing off supplies, not adventuring and killing all zombies. In a real zombie apocalypse, in a big city you can only drive five feet till you hit a line of abandoned cars, the roads would be filled with them. Most cities don't have shipyards, just the ones on the coast. "Medkits" would be limited, and don't treat everything you would encounter... just some mild cuts and injuries.
Left 4 Dead is realistic in that they are trying to get to safety, not trying to kill every single zombie there. The reason the game stops after the finale is because you made it to an outpost where all you will do is sit and wait out the zombie apocalypse. The game ends where the realism and boredom begins.
I can't say I like this game concept. No offense meant to you at all.

My thoughts exactly. Sometimes I'm glad to be slow getting to new threads, it gives someone else time to write down exactly what I'm thinking.

Great points.

But, I could imagine a "Zombie MMO" where players had to horde resources like gasoline and ammunition, control safehouses, and just try to survive. A true "survival horror" MMO could be really great in my opinion.

Sounds a bit like dead rising... I mean it's not as big as you were hoping but as it is time driven rather then accomplishment/mission driven it's very flexible. The sequel is supposed to be taking part in a city rather then a mall so maybe that will be what you're after?

No offense taken, but I didn't mean for it to be a gta mod, rather a large map akin to gta. With the focus being on survival, not kills or exploration, but when you run low on supplies, you would have to move on to a more suitable location.

I hope so, but dead rising focused on killing zombies, I want a game that focuses on fending them off, and staying alive

Can I point out that there is already a online MMO zombie apocalypse game in open beta, Dead frontier. I have played it and yeah, I enjoy it quite a bit.
