It's sad that a handful of moronic bigots make a country of 450 million people all look like warmongers and rednecks...

Just thought I'd say that most Americans are not like this, and as an American who has no ill will towards anyone, I apologize to everyone in the world who has to put up with dumbasses who say shit like this. I really do.

The past is just that: past. People trying to use history as a means to make a country feel bad after it has been hit by one of the most destructive natural disasters in history is not going to bring anyone from the victims of Pearl Harbor back. With the same logic, New York should be megatoned-Fallout 3 style-while modern day Germany oughta have a colony dropped on them. Even though the people there have nothing to do with the atomic bombs or with the 3rd Reich.

The eye for an eye logic is something only animals use. And to all americans agreeing with the above insults to Japan, you got pwned cause your government already sent help. Ha! People wishing bad things on others in these situations are bound to be reincarnated as toilet brushes.

Yeah, the two nukes that devastated innocent cities and innocent civilians wasn't quite payback enough. Americans had to rely on God to cause disaster to the country 60 years later.

God I bet these people are those "God praise America in all its glory" right-wing Republican types

These are the Americans that make bigotry and stupidity problems in the world. Unfortunately there are a lot of them. This is a NATURAL disaster and anyone who thinks we did this as payback is an idiot. Also the nukes were more than enough payback.
People aren't saying it was the states that did it, but it was God. BECAUSE GAWD BLESS 'MERICA.

I saw someone post a twitter screen capture on /co/ of a writer for Family Guy saying something like that. I suppose that if I were an unfunny, untalented douche I would have to sink down to edgy humor that mocks a tragedy that has left thousands dead and destroyed billions of dollars of infrastructure.

Also, as far as tragedies on the home land goes, Pearl Harbor is insignificant. Plus, didn't we pluck out as many Japanese citizens in America as we could post-Pearl Harbor bombing and took away all of their possessions, put them in a camp, and made their lives a living hell and used some bullshit excuse to try to feebly disguise blatant racism?

This was determined to be fake. The background in the picture shows the Gundam in Odaiba, its original location. It was since moved to Shizuoka, far from the epicenter of the earthquake, where it remains standing. The after photo there was taken during the Gundam's disassembly for transport to its new location.
I just found this out.

It's still most likely broken though, if the earthquake caused this much damage to the bulidngs designed to take it, then the statue must not be in good shape.

If the tsunami's payback for pearl harbour, I can't wait to see what mother nature's cooked up for the nuke strike on Hiroshima.

Though I have to love how FUCKING EVERYTHING THAT HAPPENS IN THE WORLD IS SECRETLY ABOUT AMERICA.
Because God is American? Or something that I got told by a some idiot last summer... He said god protects America because hes American, also he said that all humans were originally American and Europeans are originated from Americans... But that is beside the point...

If this has already been brought up, do forgive but this has been brought to my attention:

*Link removed* (by the OP) People are sending messages to Facebook accounts apparently and that's also out of line.

Apparently there is a fair amount of Americans claiming that the Tsunami currently ravaging Japan can be seen as payback for an attack in WW2.

"getting a little more payback for peal harbour. they thought we forgot about that BS, didn't they?"

"Remember pearl harbour? Go tsunami go!"

Only two brief examples of a torrent of idiotic comments that seriously make one wonder where people get this crap from.

What are your thoughts, Escapists?
I'm anticipating quite a bit of ninja'ing on this, but...

How about Hiroshima and Nagasaki being payback in spades for Pearl Harbor? And I'm fairly certain Japan (and the large number of other countries affected) has seen its share of natural disasters in the past 66 years.

This is the legacy of the late Reverend Jerry Falwell, who said that Hurricane Katrina was Jehovah's retribution on New Orleans for their tolerance of homosexuals. I guess we're still waiting for the disasters to strike in San Francisco and Ibiza.

This sort of thing is typical on facebook and all other social networking sites. If you look hard enough, you can probably find a depiction of monkeys holding KFC buckets scattered about the White House lawn, a lovely work of art that my education-fearing uncle sent to my phone after Barak Obama's election.

Excluding punk bands, those with the loudest voices are usually the most ignorant and hateful.

I don't know why anyone would be surprised at this. For every incident where people should show a greater level of care and concern for their fellow human beings, there'll be one insensitive individual who will use it as their personal time to keep negativity alive. Trolls weren't born when the internet came to be, they've just been using different outlets.

I love the internet and the fact that people can say whatever they want to by hiding behind a computer, but how many people actually have the balls to or nerve to this or any other BS to some else's face in real life? Really?? I dare some one to say that to my face and not walk way with a few teeth missing.

Actually, not necessarily true. The damage was confined to the northern area of Japan. Tokyo was just on the edge, and while it got rattled and took damage, but nothing extremely major.

The Gundam is now in Shizuoka, much further south than that. I'm in Nagoya, a few hours from Shizuoka by train, and we suffered no damage or casualties. Odds are, the Gundam is just fine.

Most of the Japanese people that were involved with pearl harbor are dead; that makes no sense. This reminds me of when there was the earthquake in Haiti and people said it happened because supposedly the Haitians made a pact with the devil hundreds of years ago.

It the same offensive bullshit; these people don't need our crap they need help!

I want to laugh at their sheer stupidity. But that's a little hard to do when I realize that people that stupid are dangerous.

You might be a redneck if....

...you blame a society we are at peace with for something that happened 70 years ago-which the current leaders have no control over- and think that a natural disaster is "payback".
DING DING, you get a cookie! Would you like that shipped or should I send you some cash?

Seriously though, this post hit the nail on the head. Pearl Harbor sucked, sure. But you can't blame an entire country full of people for something its government did. Especially since the only people still alive to remember it are over 70 and we completely patched up our relations with Japan since long before a lot of us were even born.

I mean what's next? Is someone going to claim those London bombings from several years back is retaliation for the American Revolution?

You sure?

It was a 9.1, and i'd imagine that the fact it's only on 2 legs would make it more vurnable.

And here I thought dropping two Nuclear bombs on their country, the effects of which are still an issue today, was enough pay back for Pearl Harbor.

Seriously some people can't help but prove what large fucktards they are.
