People are petty, ignorant, and have a disturbing sort of xenophobic patriotism. I hate most of the people in this country, as much as I love the country itself.

If this has already been brought up, do forgive but this has been brought to my attention:

*Link removed* (by the OP) People are sending messages to Facebook accounts apparently and that's also out of line.

Apparently there is a fair amount of Americans claiming that the Tsunami currently ravaging Japan can be seen as payback for an attack in WW2.

"getting a little more payback for peal harbour. they thought we forgot about that BS, didn't they?"

"Remember pearl harbour? Go tsunami go!"

Only two brief examples of a torrent of idiotic comments that seriously make one wonder where people get this crap from.

What are your thoughts, Escapists?
Hah, no.

Japan's 'payback' for Pearl Harbor was that we defeated them in war and dropped a pair of nuclear bombs on their cities, then removed their military prowess so they'd only have the JSDF to work with.

They do not 'deserve' an earthquake. Not unless California deserves earthquakes for Hollywood cranking out bad movies and Pompeii deserved to be destroyed because of the Roman Empire. Ridiculous, It doesn't work that way.

To make an exceedingly bad, yet necessary, pun...it's not their fault. Don't say they deserve this crap. They're STILL feeling the aftershocks.

Not all of the Japan bombed the pearl harbor.
So why did they made that comment at all?
And the majority or minority doesn't matter.
Its whether they are vocal or not.

If anything it's the Whales and Dolphins getting Payback. The people you speak of are just racist Americans who don't deserve the gift of life.

Hiroshima was payback for Pearl Harbour.

The Tsunami is payback for the whales, just imagine 1000's of whales on the bottom of the ocean pushing the earth's plates going "yea .. thats right, this is what you get."
You mean the whales ghosts?
Fuuuuuuuuuuuuck-a you Dooolphiiiiiiiiiin! Fuuuuuuck you Whaaaaaale!

But if I remember correctly, wasn't it the chickens and cows that dropped the nuclear bombs on Japan? I gues the whales and dolphins were mad that they were blamed this whole time.

All joking aside, this thread is a gold mine of America-bashing. I didn't know there was such an even dichotomy of sympathetic escapists and ignorant hatemongers on this site.

Dude...people are assholes and besides...weren't the NUKES payback?
No the first air raids on Tokyo were payback.
Yeah, the Tokyo air raids were pretty bad. An entire residential district was levelled and the death toll was estimated at over 100,000. I think that was a lot worse then pearl harbour, and that's not even counting the two nukes.

Sadder now that Japan is under threat from one of their nuclear powerplants mulfunctioning. Potentially causing mass radiation sickness to the population. first of lets hope that they fix the powerplant before it leaks nuclear products. People who suvrived the nuclear bombing suffred from radiation sickenss which is a terrible way to die. somepeople today still suffer from the event, but i digress 80% of the problems caused by 20% of the population and these halfwits are that 20%

Pearl Harbor was a choice and military strategic decision.

An Earthquake is an act of Nature. If Karma exists, we'll be seeing a volcano erupt and plug up every hole in America in 10 years.
Fixed it for you >.>

And some people really are just pure assholes. Have a tsunami hit your home town and see what it feels like, pricks.
Act of God!!!!
<.< fixed again
Oh so you fix that yet the fact that Afghanistan is getting volcanoed is left out. I know that many people here are Americans but look at the lives you've taken ruined ect. comparatively...
EG.

A friend of mine made a joke that the whales and ocean were fighting back. But yeah we had our payback with their surrender and the fact that they're still occupied.

Pearl Harbor = 2400 deaths (military)
Hiroshima+Nagasaki bombings = 150,000-240,000 (mostly civilians)

The stupidity of some people just astounds me
That's right if anyone deserves "payback" it's japan on America but they're over so it can America try to get over it as well ^^.
Seriously "payback" is this a school yard? -___-
P.S if you can say that shit about Afghanistan I should not be flamed for saying it about America. Don't like people saying it about YOUR country then don't say stupid things in the first place.

Dude, if this is pay back for Pearl Harbor, then was 9-11 payback for Hiroshima and Nagasaki?

'Cause if it is, I think we got off pretty damn light. <_<

D*cks 'll be d*cks...no matter what. Some people just don't think anything through before they run their stupid mouth.

Hawaii got hit too, jackasses. Lots of places did. Japan just got hit among the hardest. I don't quite understand this kind of hate, it's just... outside my realm of experience. Not sure how the entire States is being blamed for those comments of a few, that's more than a little hateful as well. I'm disappointed that people would rather start fights on the internet rather than help in some way... sometimes it's hard to be a humanist.

On another note, I hope that giant lolicon statue was the only thing that got wiped out...

The former is growing in number and the latter is growing, I'm sure the latter will surpass the former before long. Either get used to it or leave. I'm contemplating leaving. Yourself?

I sincerely hope that I can move to one of the asian countries soon, indulge myself in glorious gaming creativity and fun, and never again deal with self-righteous American bullshit.
As an American who's been living in Japan for the last ten years, I highly recommend Japan. Your mileage may vary, but I've never had any trouble living here.

I agree. I thought as a culture we had moved past this childish xenophobia. I came to America when I was a kid, but I firmly consider myself from the United States, and my social/cultural development is pretty well rooted here. Its out of line, borderline racist, and solidly jingoistic.

I'll just leave my thoughts like I'm showing them on twitter, all with a hashtag of #rememberpearlharbor of course:

If Germany gets swept by a volcano, it was payback for Hitler.

When America got Katrina, it was payback for colonies trashing on indians.

If Mongolia gets hit by an earthquake, it was payback for Genghis Khan.

If Europe gets hit by a meteorite, it was payback for Spain and Portugal ruling the world in the 15th century.

If the world is drowned in a massive flood, it'll be payback for global warming.

If we're killed by killer robots, it'll be payback for Steve Jobs being a genius.

If we're eaten in a Zombie Apocalypse, it'll be payback for over the top movies and games not preparing us correctly.

If God suddenly makes the world go kaput, it was payback for Eve eating the forbidden fruit.

Wow, fuck America.
I see a lot of posts making broad accusations at a nation for the behavior of some minority group.

And it isn't Americans agreeing that the tsunami was payback for Pearl Harbor.

In fact, I haven't seen or heard a single person outside of this image and a similar image agree with this sentiment. Instead, there are 16 pages of people being outraged at these people's ignorance. So I beg you, do not make the same mistake and make generalizations about America based on the cherry picked words of people I'm not sure even exist.

Eh, this thread is destroyed so I'll just repost here. I'm relatively new to the Escapist so I'll stick around a bit to get a better feel for the direction this site is headed in.

Besides, I've found that I tend to abandon forums that are more special-interest oriented or diesmbodied, but I tend to return to those whose sites cater to my interests on a more general level. So far the Escapist is as good as I've found.

Even if it devolves into the mindless flaming and nonsense threads that plagues many other forums, even if it grows devoid of all intelligent disscussion and polite debate... the Escapist still has some damn good shows.

If you were to leave, would it be away from gaming forums in general or what? As I've heard the Escapist heralded as the last bastion of us internet folk, I'm curious to know what alternatives are out there.

Can America get over it? I don't know cause I'm Australian and was speaking on my own behalf.
But yeah you're right Japanese soldiers were all rainbows and sunshine and anything bad they did was heavily outweighed but their western counterparts.

Oh shoot did I just presume your opinion without you even stating it? Cause I don't remember saying they deserved payback, Simply that we got it. I Suppose I should have gone into more detail cause I don't agree that the tsunami is payback for pearl harbour. Cause like I said the payback came with their defeat.
