Yeah, I'm joking. I love that thing but it is just a cube... and the sphere pisses me off to no end. That and if you blink, they hit you.

Stone angels have nothing on a harmless cube...
The weeping angels are rather creepy, but SCP-173 will always be creepier to me.

The Mako. Don't ask me why, but something about it's erratic controls just worked for me. Seeing it again on Alchera was strangely saddening.

Also, the flying security bots in Bioshock. I hated having to leave them behind when they got stuck.

It doesn't quite count because it's not inanimate, but, Prior Maborel's paint horse. I renamed him Sparky.

And finally, antlions. Watching them throw themselves endlessly at turrets I couldn't disable was...difficult.

I grew pretty fond of that turret, even naming it (Its Trent btw). When I lost it at the end of the level, I was genuinely sad.
same here, bro

I got quite fond of those flying little fuckers in Bioshock 2, hell, I named one of them Frederique

and then I found that there was a special plasmid that allows you to heal them and name them

boy I was so sad when that fucking Alpha took it down

RIP Frederique, you shall be missed

I actually think you answered your own question there: BECAUSE you assigned your own personality to it. That will probably make it the best character to you personally. :p

Of course you don't love it, or feel attached to it; there's even a line in the game when you incinerate the cube about how inhumane and heartless you are for being the test subject to do it the quickest. It also highlights the sinister aspects of Aperture's/Glados' tests, and quite how deranged Glados is that she would expect a sane person to care for it.

The more people complain about it, the more its "idolised". Its one big inside joke.
Ok I get that it's "ironic" and a "joke"(albeit one I never found particularly funny)but it's also getting almost as bad as the whole "cake is a lie" thing for being completely overused

Fair enough hate was the wrong word to use.I don't hate the cube. After all hating an inanimate object is just as stupid as idolizing one.Let's just say I'm tired of the constant references(and with Portal 2 due out soon I've got a whole load more to look forward to)

YES!!!!
The Dribble is what we called it. Essentially, the blue light that leads your way in the first Dead Space. (Haven't played the second.)
It was just like he drops his hand, and the blue light guides the way, so my brother called it the Dribble, and we all picked it up without hesitation. It was loved dearly, though we got mad at it when it wouldn't quite tell us enough. Still though, the dribble is a more memorable character than most of the others. Even some of the weapons couldn't compare to it.

The Darwinians/Multiwinians from Darwinia/Multiwinia. They act surprisingly human for small faceless digital guys who get churned out by the dozens.

They jump around with glee when you win, scream in terror and run if they meet a monster before you get their weapons upgrade and if a lot of them die you can see them mourn their dead by sending kites into the air.

Plus their little "marching song" when you've organized them into a formation is downright adorable.

OMG YOU CAN RESIZE THE BOX YOU WRITE POSTS IN... my world is rocked, I never knew.
Excuse me, but what exactly are you talking about?
I didn't make it too clear. The box you enter text in with "Preview" and "Post" underneath it. I somehow never noticed.
I knew what you meant, but...how can you resize it?
In the bottom right corner of the white box there is a little grey got triangle. Click on it and drag.

I guess ED-E I think it was called, the Eyebot in Fallout New Vegas. That little bugger was such a good killing machine. Really I only feel anything for inanimate objects that do stuff or have personality. Like the Turrets in Portal. I liked those over Companion Cube.

Strange...looks different from mine. My posting window changes its size automatically depending on the amount of text in it. Also, it's not white, but grey. Then again, I use Opera.

I did the exact same thing! I ditched it later on though! it was one of the best thing,s I did!
and no not really. I mainly used it as backup fire and as a extra gun man and not really cared for it beyond that.
PS
although I did care for the Aperture Science Weighted Companion Cube 2011-2011 RIP

I felt nothing for the companion cube, because we weren't supposed to feel anything for it because that was the god damn joke. Not "Hurr, cube, I saw it on the interwebz so that makes it funny", but the fact that GlaDoS attempted to make us attached to something merely because logically we were told to feel attachment towards it, regardless of the fact that it was the same weighted cube found anywhere in the facility but with a heart on it.

In ME2, my engineer's combat drone. Every time that thing fizzled away I got so sad :(

In Dragon Age, the bear that my Rogue summoned. His name was Boxer.

In Borderlands, Mordecai's bird-thingy. That thing was badass.
