I agree. I find most things just aren't interesting or engaging. My list of current shows are as follows:

-Doctor Who
-Torchwood
-Primeval (which will hopefully be coming back for a sixth season!)
-Sherlock (which will air its second incredibly short season early 2012)
-House M.D. (though this next season could be the final one)
-Alphas
-Warehouse 13
-Falling Skies (technically counts since it's coming back next year)
-Leverage

It looks like a lot, but most of these are short or summer shows. Example, Sherlock is incredibly short with a total of three now and three in 2012. Falling Skies was only about...10 episodes I think. Warehouse 13 always has, and probably always will be, a summer show, and I'm sure Alphas faces the same fate. Leverage is more seasonal, returning throughout the year for more fun.

The only "regular" show I actually watch is House M.D. and that might be going away soon anyway, so once that does, I'll probably rot my brain in the summer and watch little to nothing the rest of the year.

Well, when I do watch tv, it's usually:

Top Gear
QI
Conan O'Brien
Pretty much any documentary on History Channel

Currently watching Arrested Development online though. It's excellent.

Go old school. The Twilight Zone, The Outer Limits and Thriller (narrated by Boris Karloff) on DVD. Then you'll see why The Simpsons isn't as original as you may have thought.
I'm trying to find more CURRENT shows. Yeah I could always look up good old stuff (though not a fan of the stuff you mentioned), but it's like todays standards for entertainment are dropping but I know there has to be SOMETHING out there.

The walking dead is back on later this year.. if you haven't already watch season 1 online. Its a zombie series I can actually take seriously! quality show!

There are some people on here with an awful taste in programmes. Dr who, really? Every episode is there is something threatening something then the doctor saves the day or in the case of a double bill the next episode. When you know he is going to save the day there is no suspense.

On topic. Try House, misfits, Shameless, sons of anarchy, NCIS, CSI (there's fucking hundreds of them), psych, (never seen it but try) lost.
Only 2 good suggestions here: Misfits, and Psych (thought that's mostly another I'm just remembering). House lost it;'s appeal to me about 4 seasons ago, Just don't like Shameless, Sons of anarchy is boring and NCIS and CSI are losing their touch.

The new Syfy show Alphas is pretty good so far. So is, in my opinion, the North American version of Being Human (though the new season doesn't start until January).
AHHHHH!!!! How could I forget these!!!

yes, Alphas is shaping up to be pretty good and Being Human is awesome (better than the British version in my opinion)....but the twist with the ghost girl has me...treading cautiously now....

Your calling some of the shows I mentioned boring but you watch Dr who and other "the hero will always come out on top" shows?

Try watching all those detective ones, like columbo, murder she wrote and diagnosis murder. The good guy always wins. It will be right up your street.

You can call them other things but boring with your taste in programmes is weird.

Of all the things I've heard Sons of Anarchy called, its probably the first time I've heard it called boring, but ah well I'm just happy the new season is starting today.

Anyway, shows i'm watching at the moment..or rather waiting for them to start up again

Sons of Anarchy
NCIS and NCIS:LA
How I met Your Mother
Big Bang Theory
30 Rock
Chuck
And I think thats about it

Fist off I never said boring..but now that you mention it, their stories are losing their touch so boring might be an adequate description and those detective ones you mentioned are still no better. again, I'm looking for current stuff, not stuff that ended AGES ago.

EDIT: I did say boring in my earlier post..... my mistake.

Good choices. Those would be mine. Plus "Alphas" though it hasn't been renewed for another season yet.

Also it's a MASSIVE shame that Eureka is finishing after the next season, and I suspect Sanctuary may not last either.

EDIT: Also Castle is pretty fun as well.

I just find it amazing you can call sons of anarchy (and the others) boring but can watch dr who, the plot of every episode is like a Tom Cruise film.

If you don't know what I mean, watch this.

Call it far fetched, unrealistic, doesn't suck you in etc but liking dr who and calling my programmes boring is shocking.

I think TV today is better than it has ever been. Why? Some shows (current or recent. I'll bold the current ones):
-Mad Men (this is also on Netflix, so you can catch up with it if you wish)
-Breaking Bad
-The Wire
-Parks and Recreation
-Community
-Curb Your Enthusiasm
-Louie
-Chuck
-Battlestar Galactica
-Dexter
-Eureka
-Treme
-Better Off Ted
-Arrested Development
-Terriers (it only lasted a dozen episodes or so, but man was it good)
-It's Always Sunny In Philadephia
-Lost

and many others

The show I'll recommend most at the moment is definitely Breaking Bad. It's unbelievably high quality in terms of acting, writing, and filming. The finale to last season had me stand up and cheer, and then stop and feel guilty just a few moments later.

I dont really watch TV anymore, apart from the news channel when I get up and go to sleep. Theres currently only one TV show I watch, Breaking Bad, and thats not aired on german television anyway. Never mind that I would watch it online even if it was, since I really couldnt put up with the probably god awful dub.

Breaking Bad is really good though, even though the writers fucked up and have the main character written into a hole atm. Looks like shit is about to go down once again in the next few episodes though.
Walter is just in survival mode now. The show is really focusing more on Hank (who I can't believe I love as much as I do. I hated him at the start of the show) and Jessie (who might be one of the most tragic characters TV has ever given us). And I think that's a good thing for the moment. Things are definitely about to happen. It's also good that they have a definite end date for the show.

Did you notice Walter's hesitation to respond when asked about the state of his cancer? I wonder if there's anything to that.

I don't watch too much TV, for the most part I'm on a console or, online. There are some shows that I'll watch though like...

Bridezillas
My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic
Doctor Who
Ramsey's Kitchen Nightmares
The Looney Tunes Show

and various re-runs such as American Dad and, Dexter's Lab. Most of the stuff I do watch though is from netflix or, other online sources.

oh well....at least they gave the last season an extenstion to wrap it up.

From what I've seen so far with Sanctuary, they might wait a bit more for the next season to get going before making any decisions...though the plot does look to be heading in that hard to not end it kinda way.

Well prepared to be shocked again, but those shows are pretty boring. I can go to the streets of new York, join a biker gan and essentially get the same result as sons of anarchy. I could also interchange all the NCIS and CSIs characters and drama and get pretty much the same thing and no one would be the wiser.

So 'cos you can live them out there boring, nothing to do with plot or people in it? The fact you can be in a gang means you find it boring?

You could swtich the people from dr who and torchwood and have the same programme, in fact torchwood is a rip off of dr who, just re-jiggle the letters. You could change the people in loads of sit coms and have the same effect. Friends and how I met your mother for example.

Doesn't make it boring, watching the same stuff constantly is boring. The same people doing the same predictable story, like a James Bond film.

Csi lets you guess who the killer is or something. House has different problems with every episode, he doesn't always save everybody etc.

Usually the final choice is made while a season is already airing. Though viewing figures have been way down which is what finished Stargate.

Try Game Of Thrones? You must have seen some mention of it here on Escapist, but yeah, check it out. I liked it. Sherlock (only one season, three episodes so far) but a confirmed second and it really is brilliant. If you've read the books you'll catch a lot of clever nods, but it's a modern setting so the stories are adapted enough to keep it fresh. Archer, if you're looking for comedy, it doesn't get any better. Legend Of The Seeker ended recently, but an awesome fantasy series, and there's not enough of those. House? I assume you've at least checked that out... Primeval. I'm not sure if it's still going, I haven't watched it myself, but my girlfriend says it's pretty good.
I think that's all I've got.

I just want to be sure here, in case you haven't watched one or both of the shows, Torchwood is a spin-off of Doctor Who.

I'd recommend the Inbetweeners. I'm not sure if a new season is coming out or whatever but it's seriously funny and definately worth your attention. Or even check out the movie if you want a flavour of it.
