Try Game Of Thrones? You must have seen some mention of it here on Escapist, but yeah, check it out. I liked it. Sherlock (only one season, three episodes so far) but a confirmed second and it really is brilliant. If you've read the books you'll catch a lot of clever nods, but it's a modern setting so the stories are adapted enough to keep it fresh. Archer, if you're looking for comedy, it doesn't get any better. Legend Of The Seeker ended recently, but an awesome fantasy series, and there's not enough of those. House? I assume you've at least checked that out... Primeval. I'm not sure if it's still going, I haven't watched it myself, but my girlfriend says it's pretty good.
I think that's all I've got.

I just want to be sure here, in case you haven't watched one or both of the shows, Torchwood is a spin-off of Doctor Who.
Rip off came to my mind before spin off, I meant the same thing. It's not like I look at TV names and mess about with the letters to see if it makes another tv programme name.

I heard about it on TV and thought it was quite nifty, so I remembered it.

Also it's a MASSIVE shame that Eureka is finishing after the next season, and I suspect Sanctuary may not last either.

EDIT: Also Castle is pretty fun as well.
NOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! NOT MY EUREKA!!!!!! *sob sob*

oh well....at least they gave the last season an extenstion to wrap it up.
Actually they were going to have a short 6 episode last season but decided not to.

They are splitting it into 2 parts though like the last 2 seasons so I guess unless they've got more left this "half" there are only 13 episodes left. Also I think Sarah has been way underused this season. I can't believe the house is my favorite character.

I'm a bit worried for my favorite show Psych... I don't know what it's viewership is like but they moved it's season to start in october instead of being part of USA's usual summer line up. However they've got at least one new season and I find it funny so as for suggestions, when october rolls around check it out... especially if you like 80's movie references and pineapples.

If you have Direct TV like me you'll know why that the only channels i watch are 242-249 and 287 can't get enough of that military channel....sure there is a lot of unnecessary crap but still it's better to have such a variety than when our parents were kids and had like 4 channels.

So 'cos you can live them out there boring, nothing to do with plot or people in it? The fact you can be in a gang means you find it boring?

You could swtich the people from dr who and torchwood and have the same programme, in fact torchwood is a rip off of dr who, just re-jiggle the letters. You could change the people in loads of sit coms and have the same effect. Friends and how I met your mother for example.

Doesn't make it boring, watching the same stuff constantly is boring. The same people doing the same predictable story, like a James Bond film.

Csi lets you guess who the killer is or something. House has different problems with every episode, he doesn't always save everybody etc.
First off let me just say that Torchwood is while not essentially a rip-off, is a spin-off which to the untrained eye would seem like a rip-off. It's just a new take on the Doctor Who evergrowing universe.

Secondly, these shows like Sons of Anarchy and the NCIS and CSIs are just boring and get mundane because they're just too down to earth. I could apply to a crime investiagtion unit in any city with access to just some equipment and could see the same thing happen. House is just drowning itself in it's own drama at this point.

Again...boring....zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

For Game of Thrones there are two reasons:
1) I have no access to it on tv.
2) I tried to read the book and it read like Lord of the Rings all compressed into one book....and that was just the FIRST book. I'm worried about what the show would be like.

Archer.....I'm gonna to not say anything rude here suffice it to say that I'm not big on comedy.

House is...decent but it's gone south within the last 4 seasons for me.

Legend of the Seeker is available on Hulu so I might try it out.

I addressed the rip off/spin off thing to somebody else.

There too down to earth? I am not in a biker gang and I very highly doubt you are, I am not in a medical profession and I doubt you are so they might as well be sci fi.

These programmes are also nothing like real life, you think there is a doctor any where in the world who acts like House? He would be bankrupt in a week with medical mal practice law suits.

Do you think the hells angels are anything like the sons of anarchy? Of course there not.

Once you have seen one sci fi thing you have seen them all. Is DS9, Voyager, enterprise or stargate really that different? Is star wars really that unique at the release of the first yeah but now there's loads.

Just 'cos the things in them might not or do not exist doesn't make them exciting if the story line is always the same. They always get into trouble and they always get out of it, with the very occasional death of the main cast.

There is much higher level of suspension disbelief while watching them shows 'cos so much of it is bull shit and they use "advance technology", "the force" or some other contrived "magic" to explain everything in it, especially when something doesn't make sense.

Not like House is ever going to pull a magic alien healing serum out of his pocket and say tah dah!

I don't watch much TV anymore. There just aren't enough shows that are worth enduring the shitload of commercials for. I pretty much just watch Doctor Who and Sanctuary. Well I will be watching Sanctuary when the season premier comes out.

There are actually plenty of doctors like House who don't get sued becasue:

a)The doctors typically have more resources to fight theses lawssuits than the ones who would usually sue

b) the lack of sucess tends to keep people from suing.

c) when you do get the job done, success usually takes precedence over manners.

The biker gang bit still applies, you're just basically adding drama that's out of place.

At least sci-fi stuff can put it's own drama into context

Are you serious? There are plenty of doctors who abuse patients, pop pills, break loads of hospital rules, make doctors break into patients houses and all that other stuff? Don't make shit up.

Then why do docs pay so much for insurance for mal practice if when there sued they win? Even I have heard of docs losing there jobs for fucking up.

The lack of people getting better stops people from suing? 'cos they die before the law suit goes through?

It's not just about manners, it's about not fucking up your job like a surgeon leaving pins inside people not name calling.

How is it out of place? Gangs get into wars, pay people off etc sons just amps it up.

The program's I watch put the drama in it's own context, it's not going to take it out of context 'cos then the writers would be fired for being shit at there job.

First off, there are pill poppers, rule breakers and patient abusers. Home intrusion is another matter altogether.

My dad has had experience dealing with them both as a lawyer and and a patient. They're out there in greater numbers than you think.

Also fucking up at your job is different from just being an ass on the job.

Regarding sons.....no it doesn't amp up anything. It's still the same boring out of place drama.

Never read so much crap, if they were doing them things they would be sued into bankruptcy or lose there job. I don't know what hospitals your going to but you should stop going.

There is no way they would employed and allowed to be so free while taking care of people.

It does amp it up to make it more entertaining.

You think flying around in space ships is exciting? Billions of light years worth of space means your not going to be running into aliens all the time. Asteroid belts are nowhere near as cluttered as there made out to be, you could plot any random course through one and the chances of hitting an asteroid are tiny.

A programme is boring when you can guess the entire episode before even starting to watch it, unless it is a comedy, then only the comedy keeps it entertaining.

For example House is predictable (mostly) as you can guess he is going to save the person but the biting remarks keep it entertaining. Dr who is boring 'cos he isn't funny, just quirky but you can guess the entire thing.

Denial is more than.....no I'm not going waste this on you.

There are many instances of these all across the WORLD. Not just where I live, but EVERYWHERE. They aren't prominent because while these doctors may be poor in terms of ethics, they still do their job and do it well.

Secondly, your logic of predictability is flawed. If being able to see a pattern makes things boring then that would make shows like NCIS and CSI and especially sons of anarchy among the most boring things since man discovered the color grey.

I dont really watch TV anymore, apart from the news channel when I get up and go to sleep. Theres currently only one TV show I watch, Breaking Bad, and thats not aired on german television anyway. Never mind that I would watch it online even if it was, since I really couldnt put up with the probably god awful dub.

Breaking Bad is really good though, even though the writers fucked up and have the main character written into a hole atm. Looks like shit is about to go down once again in the next few episodes though.
Totally beaten to it. I agree with this guy. Breaking Bad is the best show on telly, and in fact is the best "drama" show that has ever been on telly. Dexter is pretty good too.

Ok, predict what happened in the last season sons of anarchy, the main story line. Without a search engine.

I can tell you, without watching dr who what the plot of probably every episode. Aliens or a mutated scientist (or something else as equally stupid) threatened mankind, it looked like they were going to win at one point but the doc turned it around and saved the day OR they left it on a cliff hanger with a will the doc save the day this time? Will his sexy assistant ever confess her feelings for the doc? And will the male side kick ever grow a pair of balls? Find out next time on the most predictable shit on tv...

Oh, so now your a well traveled hospital investigator? Traveling the world to see if every hospital has at least one corrupt doc, who is just a warm hearted rebel who never gets sued despite his aggressive and sometimes dangerous practices? Please! A corrupt doc like that would be fired and sued. People would complain, his bosses would notice etc

All you do is say "it's boring" you give no reasons. I think you have said once it is predictable but how is it? Beyond they fight, ride bikes and have rivals there's not much you can predict.

Like saying prison break is predictable, if you think that is predictable your a freaking genius!

People like CSI to see who the killer is, like a game of cluedo or how they did it and how the team solve it or if they do, I can think of cases where they couldn't catch the person.

Alright, spoilers for Breaking Bad inbound, if you havent watched all the episodes that are currently out yet stay away folks.

Honestly, its almost become torture for me to watch Breaking Bad these days. Not because I dont like the show but because its just sad to see where Walt is and where hes going. Literally every time I see Walt near Jessie, Mike or Gus I curl up into a ball and scream "DONT DO ANYTHING STUPID!!!!". I cant shake the feeling that Walt is going to do something very daring soon, something that pulls him in even deeper. When you think of the shit Walt has pulled off... Trying to poison Tuco (did I spell that right?), blowing up that car, killing Gale, etc. One things for sure, hes a dangerous man and hes getting closer to the edge with each episode.

I cant remember exactly which episode it was, but it was a recent one, and the main purpose of the whole episode was to illustrate how Walt had lost every thing. Hes no longer his own boss, so no more playing Heisenberg. Hes once again being pushed around by his wife. Jessie is growing more distant by the day. When you look at the whole picture... Well, I think Walt is going to kills someone soon. Who is anybodies guess.

Sorry if this post was a clusterfuck, im kind of in a hurry but I wanted to drop a quick reply.

Oh, and I dont think theres anything to Walts cancer, hes probably healthy, I think part of him wishes he would fall ill again. That the impression I got.
Well said. Speaking of Jessie, did you notice he was playing a rail-shooter version of Rage a few episodes back? And some of the characters were having a debate (while blazed) about zombies in Left 4 Dead vs the Nazi zombies of Call of Duty. Looks like there's a gaming nerd on the crew.

I was thinking the same thing about Walter. He's in a different situation now than he was before, though. He has more to lose: his life (now that the cancer seems to be a thing of the past), his family (however tenuously held together they are), his money, and his pride (which is what seems to always get him in trouble). He's also terrified of Gus and Mike , as he should be. But this probably makes him that much more likely to kill. It's that saying about animal backed into a corner. So I wouldn't be surprised at all if that moment does come. I just wonder who the collateral will be. Given the nature of the show, he's not going to get away without someone he loves getting hurt.
